This is a topic for all the hellos, good mornings and goodbyes of japan.

If your still confused let me explain further. This particular topic will be talking about the Japanese greetings and goodbyes as well as (possible) the right prefix to put in front of names.
People who actually know the language will give you the right spelling and possibly (you tube video) of how to pronounce them.

Personally I don't know much at all really, but thought I should put this up for myself and others

I am also just learning (for the second or third time, now)
and all I really know are the numbers and a handfull of greetings.

for instance;
Ohayo gozaimasu --> polite version of good morning

ogenki desu ka? --> How are you? (lit. are you well?)

and the reply to that is

hai, genki desu --> I'm well

This post is basically about what I know (not definite)

numbers 1- 5
ichi=1
ni=2
san=3
shi=4
go=5
roku=6
shichi=7
hachi=8
kyuu=9
juu=10

cause I like ichigo:
ichigo=strawberry (also combination of numbers 1 and 5) *ichigo kurosaki!*
Kyuubi=nine tailed demon fox or just tailed demon beast *Naruto!*

Greetings:
konnichiwa=hello
ohayo= good morning or ohayo goziamasu (second one is more formal)
konbanwa= good evening
hajimemashita= (I think ) how do you do?

arigato=thanks

family/friends:
daikazoku=family
aniki=deep friend or brother
nii-san=big bro
ohka-san=mother
sempai=senior
sensei=teacher
prefixes:
(insert-name here) sama= respected person
san= mrs or ms
chan= I think for female and male?
kun (I think) = a little more than friends/males.

other:
sorry=suimasen and gomenosai or (not formal) gomen= sorry
thank god, or good timing=yokata
ita=ouch
nandato=what? or what the or huh?
Baka=stupid

Thats all for now!

Hey I'm decently knew to this site and stumbled across this forum and wanted to post an "easter egg" I guess how I look at it that finally makes sense from reading your post.

Throughout bleach you will see Ichigo wear a variety of clothes that will have the number 15 on it which makes sense that his name looking at his name broken apart and not as strawberry which I was all I was aware of beforehand.

Haha sorry if I sound stupid posting this but figured I would in case there was anyone else like me who had caught on to the repeated appearance of that particular number.

Yeah the number is his age when he first turns into a soul reaper and strawberry cause (the word ichigo means strawberry) and his orange hair.
side note: was a nick name by Karin his sister.
