These movies are for kids, and they can be as young as 5 or 6. Development and production of this franchise would need to take that into consideration as a priority. In that sense, Pokemon has done a good job producing for young viewers, and this is certainly one of the most important aspects the majority of MAL reviewers here fail to take up on. I think it's very ignorant of them to just say the plot doesn't follow, or the thing is repetitious, since you're judging the series by seinen standards. The thing is, they know exactly this (the writers are adults after all) but they still go with the so-called 'poor plot' for the best way to providing familiarity for the kids.
I remember started watching this since I was a kid back in 1997 (I was 7.) Now that I look back at it, I know a lot of things don't make sense, or Ash is just plain stoopid. But back then, that had never been my concern, but rather the peculiar qualities and themes that would attract kids and they have done exactly that. The question asked as to why Ash didn't just use the Pokemon in his pockets when he gets beaten down has a value more obvious to kids than the older lot. Qualities of Ash such as never giving up, or doesn't always resolve to Pokemon when there are words he want to put across himself, these also act as important 'life lesson' as most anime includes at one point or another, in varying forms depending on their target audience. And the straightforward answer is, Pokemon just isn't the anime for you. |
