I was just wondering, after trying to choose my 'favourite', what exactly makes a Manga good?
For me, it's basically 'quality', which is made up of the complexity of the story, their characters and their relations.
But sometimes those don't matter at all. If it's funny enough to keep me laughing or draws out my emotions despite having a plot that sucks, i'd still rate it good.
So, what do you consider 'good', or how do you choose if a manga is recommendable or not?
Not to forget the art, of course. If I don't like it, even the best storyline ever might not keep me reading, or at least i'd do so unwillingly.
Which brings up another question, what kind of art do you prefer, if so?
For me, examples would be
- Arcana/ Bride of the Water God/ The Summit
- Blade of the Immortal
- Running on Empty (unique, i believe)
- Mars
- Marmalade Boy (the manga)
- Reimei no Arcana/ Sarasah/ Platinum Garden
- Eternal Sabbath/ Monster
- Kimi ni Todoke/ Koishi Tagari no Blue/ Sprout
- Team Spirit/ The One
- 1/2 Prince
maybe also - Good Luck/ Hush
I have mixed feelings with art like in Alice 19th, Ingenuo, Fruits Basket, Heart (Takada Rie), Full Moon wo Sagashite, Kaikan Phrase or W-Juliet and i dislike the cute drawing type where the head is much too big in proportion to the rest of the body.
Well, but since there are so many art styles out there, this is probably a topic of it's own.... |
