It would be so much easier to score so many anime and manga if MAL added half steps into the scores. It also wouldn't change any scores already put into the system.

What I mean by this is adding .5 scores to the system, including 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, and 9.5. If it was done this way, the scores already given to anime wouldn't need to change, and it would be much easier to score anime. So many in my list have unfairly had to be given higher or lower scores than they deserve (especially many of the 6-8 scores), and adding these half-steps would fix that.

It has already been asked many, many time, but MAL won't do it. A scale of 10 is more than enough to rate an entry, and even if we stretch it to 20, there'll still be people to ask for more options. Coincidentally, basically all users asking for it do not use the full scale; you yourself only have 23% of all of your ratings in the 1-5 range, 15% as 5s. Spread your score.

On top of it, reworking the system would compromise the entries's Scores even more than currently, as not all users would have updated their rating with the .5.

10% increments are often too inaccurate.

But much less, 5% increments is fine enough for almost everyone.

You mean the score distribution on the stats pages? There would be an easy workaround: split a x.5 score into a half x and a half x+1 vote.
For example a 7.5 score would add a half vote to both the 7 and 8 score.

10 options, with its meaning described as one word on MAL, seems accurate enough tho, and that's not for nothing that it's the type of scale the most used in the world (well, just behind the x/5 used for online reviews) for a little bit everything. The average MAL user uses barely half of these 10 options, anyway.

I meant the overall Score of the entry, as all the old users wouldn't have updated their scores with the x.5, so there would be two different type of ratings for only one system. But yeah, it's the same for the distribution, and while your idea fix the problem, it also completely fuck the visual representation of that page. If MAL were to change the scale, they would also have to change the Stat pages to comply with it, and display the x.5 distribution too.

Anyway, MAL officially said they won't change the scale (https://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=1999686), and there is AniList if you really need it.
