Hello everyone, I want something to know. Next week, the Yu Yu Hakusho manga will be released in Germany. It will have 12 volumes. The original manga has 19 volumes.

I'm just curious if there are any differences I need to know. Has something important been cut out?

Nop, that's even the opposite. There is 3 editions of the Manga : the Original (Tankoban) with 19 Volumes, the Kanzenban with 15 Volumes, and the Bunkoban with 12 Volumes.

Generally speaking; Kanzenban Editions are translated as "Perfect", "Deluxe" or "Ultimate" editions, and they have new covers specially drawn by the Author for it, the original colored pages from the publications in the magazine, Epilogues/Extra Chapters released after the end of the Manga, special notes of the Author, and are also in a way larger and fatter format, with better quality of paper.

Bunkoban Editions are generally released years after the end of the series, and are made to try to relaunch the sales around it. They have new covers drawn by the Author (distinct from the Kanzenban ones) contains extra inputs from the Author, and are slightly taller and contains a lot more pages (which are also of better paper quality) than the regular one. Depending on the series, they may also have all the extra content of the Kanzenban Edition, but that's quite rare...

As for Yuu Yuu Hakusho, as far as i know, the only extra content in the Bunkoban Edition are 2 funny short chapters; one by the designer of the Anime with a small interview, and a final one to thanks the reader by Togashi... I didn't personally read it, but i know that we got it translated here in France as the "Star" Volumes, and many people were incredibly disappointed by it.

@Alexioos95

I'm now curious, why many people seem to be disappointed about the "Star"-volumes. If it's just an interview and a thank you for the reader, what were the reader expecting to come?

If I understand everything right, the Kanzenban and the Bunkoban are even better than the original ones, the Tankoban?

Because people were expecting the Kanzenban Edition instead, which had more bonus, with also a way better format... While it's more pricey than the regular or Bunkoban, its quality is also way better. We got different covers too, and they are a little bit too simple for such a special edition.

That was a missed opportunity, honestly, especially as Slam Dunk, licensed by the same publisher, got its own Kanzenban translations a few months prior too, and had very great feedbacks from everyone.

Yeah, especially the Kanzenbans. Generally, when you can buy the Kanzenban, that's the version you'd want to go to.

@Alexioos95 Thank you very much. You were a big help. As it seems, we will receive the Bunkoban version then in Germany next week. I thought I would need to worry about that not everything will be covered up, but as it seems I don't have to worry about it anymore. I will still go for the Bunkoban version, because it's easier to get them in my country, since they will be released from now on. Furthermore, I don't even know if the Kanzenban has been translated into German as well. I can understand English well enough, but reading German is easier for me, since it's my mother tongue.
