| Episode 1 Akemitsu sure is letting desires get to him, which was all triggered when had a chance encounter with Yuzuki, a cutie hauling bales of rice. So his solution to purging those desires is to become a Buddhist monk. Little did he know what would await him when he sets out to the temple as he meets that same girl there. And then with Akemitsu being so shocked at what he has gotten himself into that he's sent scrambling and meets the other girls in hilarious fashion as that place was converted into a nunnery and nobody told anybody about it. This feels just life Cafe Terrace and Its Goddesses all over again, but without the nasty personalities as everything that happened was all due to misunderstandings. Akemitsu's father sure is a scumbag seeing that he embezzled funds from the temple and ran away. That was some pretty funny stuff there and I like it. Coming in, I was expecting it to be just another one of those trashy harem shows that's all fanservice and nothing else matters, and even more so with the animation coming from a no-name studio, but the manga is pretty good from what I'm hearing. Not to mention, this is being done by the same guy who did Grand Blue Dreaming, and having enjoyed that show I was eagerly looking forward to seeing how things translate to this show. And it's pretty much on-par with that show with a MC who got himself into a crazy situation, and while fanservice in Grand Blue is mostly done with the guys, this show it's happening with the girls here. In all, this is my kind of harem show. |

| Episode 2 While he may not look the part, Akemitsu is a pretty responsible guy as he can cook and clean. But the environment is definitely getting to him as the girls are putting him into a tough situation, especially Tsukuyo. The bath scene in which Tsukuyo walked in while Akemitsu was still in, followed by an accidental kiss had Yuzuki kicking him out. But by leaving, Yuzuki meant leaving the bathroom and not the temple altogether. Unfortunately for Akemitsu, he has no other home to return to since he was evicted from his apartment and is left with nothing. So he's back, and Kurage shows just how much of a prankster she is there. Pretty wild and chaotic once again as this follows the traditional harem stuff to a T. |

| Episode 3 And now, an episode focusing on the foreigner Mia as her situation is not much different from Akemitsu's. She comes from a family of erotics, and that's because of her family's reputation that her fellow schoolmates avoided her. The only person who didn't was Kagura, who introduced her to the temple where nobody knows about her family. So much like with Akemitsu, she went to the temple in order to put some distance between herself and her notorious family. Kagura is quite the trickster there as she causes lots of these awkward situations, but after hearing Mia is much more than the ditzy type commonly found in old-school harems that this show is. Next time, the temple's future is at stake as Yuzuki goes off to have a matchmaking meeting as she wants to keep the place open, but it's set to shut down after she graduates from high school. |

| Episode 4 Quite a lot of drama getting to the Ryukoku temple for the matchmaking meeting that Yuzuki forgot was happening today. They ended up having to swipe a truck to get there, but they made it. Akemitsu is mistaken for a monk there and ends up having to attend the meeting with Yuzuki and Kijo. In the end, they are able to at least postpone the temple's shutdown as Yuzuki and Kijo agree to be a couple in name only for three years, but what ultimately decides the temple's fate rests in Akemitsu's hand as he will need to prove himself as a head priest and get the money to replace what his father embezzled. And then things just go off the rails when they don't make the last bus back and end up staying at a love hotel as a result, which is really going to push Akemitsu to the limit. |
| Episode 5 And now, it looks like each of the girls are going to get an episode about them. It started with Mia in episode 3 and Yuzuki in episode 5, and now it's her little sister Tsukuyo who is in the spotlight. And she's somebody who is lacking in awareness seeing that she forgot her lunch and instead of just taking it and sending Akemitsu back when he comes over to school to deliver it, she brings him to the nurse's office. But it is there where Akemitsu learns that she quit the archery club, and that's because Yuzuki was better at archery and she quit, so she doesn't think it's fair that she's active when big sister is not. But then Yuzuki shows that she's really only a shell of her former self when those arrows go nowhere. So in the end, she's back holding the bow, and while Tsukuyo is trying to hide the fact that a man is staying with them, she's able to pass Akemitsu off as a relative. Tsukuyo is one of those girls who is not a rational thinker when it comes to sensitive stuff happening. |
| Episode 6 And now, an episode about Kurage as she's the middle schooler of the group, and she has big plans when it comes to being an adult. Unfortunately, staying in shape is one of the responsibilities and after seeing that she packed on the pounds, she decides to diet and exercise with the girls, which doesn't go very well seeing that they are not exactly overweight to the point where it's a problem. And then Yuzuki is determined to become a priestess in just six months in order to beat the deadline, which is quite a tall task seeing that it usually takes a year. But Kijo is losing patience and wants her to become a priestess in three months or else the fake engagement is off. Quite a tall task to do now as Yuzuki has her work cut out. |
| Episode 7 Who knew that the color of one's panties made a difference? Well, according to Kiki that's a reflection of one's purity and if they aren't white, then they are tainted. So as punishment, Akemitsu, Yuzuki, and Mia must go commando until they can get their hands on white undies. As for why the three month deadline, that's because in three months the sect leaders have their secret meeting. So after some totally unorthodox exercises from Kiki, it's Christmas where they get the day off, and for Akemitsu it's a day he despises as his scumbag father would do all sorts of things with other ladies. Akemitsu is in quite a tight spot now, and it doesn't help that Kagura is plotting something. |
| Episode 8 Kagura shouldn't be in a place like this, but here she is trying to one-up Akemitsu's father by seducing him in order to get him to leave. So the Christmas party comes and goes with more inappropriate stuff being distributed in the white elephant gift exchange. And then it's off to the hot springs as Kagura had set up a trap so that Akemitsu would enter the women's side. She did this to get the girls to eliminate Akemitsu as Kagura wants nothing more than for Mia to fulfill her family's destiny to become the Erotic Queen. And then Kagura shamelessly walks in while Akemitsu was privately taking a bath as she really puts the pressure on. And now, Kagura has an offer to pay the debts if Akemitsu hits the road. While that sounds like a great deal, unfortunately he knows he would be hurting Mia by taking this offer. This place is just so messed up, but Kagura is one messed-up person who has just been using Mia. |
| Episode 9 While the bunny outfit looks great on Mia, this is not the time to be wearing such an outfit as while the whole mochi pounding stuff has a bunny motif to it of sorts, it's just too cold to be wearing something like that. So it's onto the new year and with big decisions ahead, there's the matter of Kagura as she has been quite the menace there, and it turns out that Kagura is on a secret mission as she wants photos of Mia flirting with other men, and after Mia falls for Akemitsu, she's worried that if Mia is left heartbroken, eh probably will not have sex with anybody, which doesn't bode well for the mission. Mia's family sure is twisted, but Kagura is even more so. |
| Episode 10 Akemitsu and Kagura just don't get along, but Mia is determined to make it so, and for that they are locked in a shed together. Seeing that Akemitsu is just too kind to get down and dirty with anybody that Kagura comes up with a scheme to have Mia and Akemitsu sleep together, and pass this onto Tsukuyo that they are dating. Turns out that those two were just playing Twister. And then the temple runs out of rice and is looking for tributes, though seeing that they are still an illegitimate temple that they have a hard time finding anybody willing to contribute. Luckily, they have enough to get buy thanks to one woman's generous contributions. Crazy things just continue to happen as Akemitsu came there to become a monk, not flirt around with a bunch of girls who call this place home. |
| Episode 11 These girls sure didn't think things through when they insisted on undergoing the trial in three months as at the bare minimum they need to repair the idol, which is going to cost money. So Akemitsu looks for part-time jobs, but he needs a phone after throwing his away. He asks Yuzuki, who dons the maid outfit and is looking to work several jobs to raise enough money, but she's about to wear herself out with all that work. All this just to get her phone number, but that failed. So Akemitso goes out with Tsukuyo to buy a new phone, and it was quite the adventure to do so seeing that Tsukuyo is still a minor. Akemitsu made a big deal over something that should have been a simple process. |

| Episode 12 (Finale) Kiki calls off Yuzuki's training as she's too mentally unstable to continue. According to Kiki and her mother, Yuzuki is trying to do the impossible. So in a bit of a role reversal, Yuzuki runs away, but Akemitsu chases her down and brings her back to the temple after knocking some sense into her. She comes down with a fever from all that, but it got her to realize that she's trying to take on too much responsibility when it's not going to get her anywhere, and she overreacted to the situation. So in the end she decides to focus only on her training while the others will seek donations to restore their statue. After being a relatively serious episode, it ends the only way a harem possibly could. A solid way to end this as while it took quite the roundabout path, but it established the relationship between the characters. Final Thoughts Seeing that this is by the same person who did Grand Blue, I was expecting lots of fanservice and craziness, and for the first half that's what I got. This show just went way too overboard with it at the beginning that it would lead to a number of viewers to rage-quit this show. But in the midst of all that it does a solid job with establishing the characters and building relationships. The characters themselves are quite an interesting bunch with Tsukuyo easily being the most interesting of the bunch. The comedy was solidly done even if the concepts weren't all that great, all the while the show at least maintains its focus on the main plot even if in light of all the sidetracks. That said, this show is bogged down by mediocre production values, going too overboard with fanservice, slow pacing, and while character development was nicely done with Yuzuki, Tsukuyo, and Mia, not so much with Kurage, Kagura, or Kiki. In all, it was enjoyable for what it is for those who are into old-school harems, but it's a hard sell for just about everybody else. Grade: C (6/10) |
| I also gave it a 6. This series, IMO, could've easily been a bad one, as fun as it may be if they didn't start tackling the Temple's issues more. At first, it felt like it was gonna be a 'waifu of the week' kind of harem. But as soon as they went back to the important issue at hand (the Temple stuff), it finally felt more worth it to follow. I'm bummed that non of the obstacles that have been set during this season has been overcome (the 3-month Tokudo time limit and the statue situation) but, at least they managed to establish something with Yuzuki's realization that she doesn't have to carry all the burden on her own like her mother did and accept the help of others who also loves the Temple. Tsukuyo's one-woman misconception act, Mia and Akagami's dynamic baka duo, and Yuzuki's airheadedness are the highlights of this series for me. It could've been a non-ecchi and it still would've worked with just the character dynamics. |
