I'm not a fan of this show but I hear a lot of praise about the manga and was wondering how different is it from the show or how well they actually adapted the manga? I'd be interested in picking the manga up if it's different and I hear how it's an inspirational blueprint but I couldn't get down with the show.

The core idea is the same as the manga. The anime adapts some parts of the manga, but skips a lot and changes some details here and there. If you didn't like the anime, you won't like the manga either, most likely.

I personally like the manga more. It has the same core plot, but I think everything is explained more clearly. Firsr 100 pages is steady read but after that the action picks and it gets fast. The anime added the whole sport thing and overall made it more edgy.

If you're going to read the seven seas versions which is the only official translation, you should know it has extra color side stories and the Shin Devilman included, but it's missing 40 pages because of translation version differences.

Of course to note my personal taste is more in favor of older stuff. Know that the manga was made in 1972 meaning it has some old tropes and humor. Personally like it's crazy demon designs and Go Nagai's drawing style is my favourite.

Core idea same, but the anime has great and unique animation, one of the most banger soundtracks in anime history, and it's a bit modernified(which may or may not be a good thing).

Like most people said here, core idea is the same but the anime is still very different.
The sports thing, Spider Miki, the rappers, and the very sexual stuff are anime only.
Honestly, I suggest to give it a shot if you're interested about it, even if you didn't like the anime.
For a more manga accurate adaptation I would recommend checking out the OVAs from the 80s (I also think Ryo is better than Crybaby Ryo).

i personally liked it.The art style was a bold choice but i personally found it a bit refreshing,it was kinda like reading a coming but you're in a lucid state ig.The story was pretty okayish as well, like I've seen stuff with similar plot and settings, nonetheless it's worth watching as it's only 10 Eps so only one sitting is all that's needed.
