Shouldn't this be as popular as Osomatsu-san?

The two stories aren't so different as they were done by the same writer (Fujio Akatsuka), so why couldn't this be as popular as Osomatsu has become?

First off, Akatsuka was NOT involved in Shinya! Tensai Bakabon and Osomatsu-SAN as he was dead. Those two were revived regardless by TV Tokyo and Studio Pierrot most likely to celebrate his legacy.
"-San" got the most pull than "Shinya!" because of how much it pulled away from the original children "Osomatsu-kun" series. For instance, the sextuplets, among others, are grown up. (And I suppose popular seiyuus helped popularize "-san" even more. "Shinya!", on the other hand, retains it's age and characters. I could argue that long time anime watchers were put-off on "Shinya!"'s direction of dialogue -- whatever that is.

Having watched the older "Bakabon" series, "Shinya!" does not follow the Bakabon universe at all. It was too busy "breaking the fourth walls" and never re-introduced the series' own freaking universe. Heck, the characters act like they are "behind-the-scenes" like actors rather than what they truly were. "Shinya!" is an alternative universe of "Bakabon" and really misleads what the actual "Bakabon" series is.

Well, this is ultimately based on whether you had seen the old Tensai Bakabon series or not. Watching "Shinya!" as an introduction to the Bakabon series will end you expecting the older version to be like it -- which, I'm afraid, is not how the original series went. I'm really hoping an old version of the series, like Heisei Tensai Bakabon, gets picked up by Discotek since they dubbed Osomatsu-Kun. That way, you can see for yourself.

I'm not saying it's wrong to like "Shinya!", but that is NOT how the Tensai Bakabon series goes. If you are going to watch the older versions, you are going to be in for a change.
