Okay... So this is going to be my first normal review of an anime in this club. The anime in question only has two episodes available with English subs so far. But, despite having just started out in the anime world, this anime has managed to grab my heart and become my favorite anime of all time.
Story: Kousei Arima was once called a prodigy at the piano. He was the first Japanese person to win a big music competition, but that all changed when his mother died. He was unable to play anymore. Fast forward a couple of years and he is in middle school and he meets this beautiful girl who is able to light up his world with her own music. My god.... The story is damn incredible. I do have a soft spot for good drama/romances and this one has all the potential to become one of the best.
Art: When I watched the first episode of this anime, the animation just blew my fucking mind out the back of my head. Everything is so colorful and fluid. In the first episode there is a scene where a bunch of children are playing musical instruments around one of the main characters and, lemme tell you, the accuracy with how the artist depict the children actually playing is freaking astounding. They must have done tons of research on how peoples fingers and hands move when they play instruments. Being a musician myself, I always find that musical accuracy when playing an instrument is one of the most important points in an anime about music, and Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso fucking nails it.
Sound: Okay.... As a musician, this stuff is like porn. It's fucking awesome. The soundtrack is literally perfect. All the right music plays at exactly the right times. Music is probably the most important thing in an anime next to the story (unless they pull it off correctly without music, which is extremely hard).
Enjoyment: After each episode, I was literally rushing to see when the next episode would come out so I knew how long I would have to suffer before I could get my fix. I am thoroughly addicted to this anime, and I love it.
Rating: This show gets an absolute perfect 10/10 for me. People may say that it's stupid to give a perfect rating to a show that's not even done yet, but this anime has captured my heart in a way I hadn't thought possible with only two episodes. Well done Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso, well done. |
