I think that the male character from Black Lagoon counts a bit from what I remember, but he did not leave that much of an impression when I watched it years ago. It was not really like Ken Kaneki or even the short one of Hajime Hinata or Keyaru (which were unsatisfying). Kaneki's transformation and mental breakdown to becoming strong was so great that I still remember it years after watching: "All of the detriments in this world stem from a lack of individual ability."Thoughts? (About that male character from Black Lagoon) |

@NeonNinja1915 Thanks for the suggestion about Umaru. But, I am not quite sure that she fits the bill. I should have mentioned it earlier, but more focused on characters like Kaneki, which means that female—and effeminate—characters are kind of automatically disqualified. Even worse than a character that loses it & becomes strong off-screen. |

Guilty Crown was one of the most depressing shows I had ever seen. The end was just... what was the point of the show... (no philosophy, please)... I digressI thought that Ouma Shuyu would be almost like Kaneki but... just did not work. Are there really no other characters like him? Besides the ones under Character Relations, I can't find any |

@NeonNinja1915I just finished the first episode. It is not exactly what this club is, because most of happens off-screen. However, it is must more "on-screen" than many of the others! Better than "High School of the Elite." I will add him! Thanks for the suggestion of the character and the series!! Let me know if you find any other characters like Kaneki (or who partially meet that high standard, such as Aoto) |

@Goldenbear: A fair point, but it is more of a possession. He did not actually go through some traumatic experience, such as Kaneki and torture or Nagumo and being betrayed and then eating weird things that made him stronger. He just got possessed by eating a finger.I think that from the Winter 2021 seasons, the closest one would probably be Kayeru from Redo Healer. However, most of his torture was off-screen (if you have seen it, everything that happens to him on-screen is just a repeat of before... nothing new... so no real trauma that causes him to become stronger)... That said, I added him to the list because he seems pretty close. |
