I rarely watch things that aren't subbed either [this was only the second time], but I just Amano's work so I had to watch it. I'm really hoping someone does sub it, it'd be nice to get the rest of the story and see if I did pick up on what was really happening.

... I was thinking about suggesting this as a project for a group. I'm just deciding on which group would be the best.

I understand. I'm sure it was great, but I can't get myself to watching something I cannot fully comprehend, and so I will most probably patiently wait for a sub coming out - hopefully soon.

Sadly it wasn't subbed... but I think I got the gist of what was going on from just watching it. There's tons of stuff I did miss though because there is a lot of narration and dialogue.... it's still worth the watch though just because of the way it looks. Amano's art is always wonderful and the way it is animated is just nifty. Plus, the music is nice and relaxing.

Is Fantascope Tylostoma actually subbed? O.o I've tried to get it but only found raws so far.

I watched Ani*Kuri15 yesterday and found it to be amazing. Perhaps it's just the Satoshi Kon and Makoto Shinkai fangirl speaking out of me, but the other entries were mostly very good as well.

I learned about Fantascope Tylostoma from this club and just got to watch it last night... it was fantastic. ^_^

Iblard Jikan and G-9 are good additions as well... I've not see the others yet.

Sasa | Jan 28, 2009 3:08 AM
Okay, and now to the updates. I have added:
- Iblard Jikan
- Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu
- G-9
- Kanashimi no Belladonna
- Ani*Kuri15
- Fantascope Tylostoma (Actually there are many more of these ganime and I've even seen one at a screening, but I have no idea what they are called.)

Thanks for reminding me of those! I have known a few of the titles before, but never thought of adding them. (I wonder why?) Also thanks for pointing me out to Ani*Kuri15!...

"Arete Hime" was where I made the cut, I am sure it's a great anime, but it doesn't look all that unusual to me. And "Robot Carnival"... ahhh, what a difficult decision. Ultimately I must admit that I have really, really hated the anime and except for opening and ending, I didn't see all that much 'art' at all. But it will be added.

And now I should finally go watch Belladonna of Sadness... It's been lying on my computer for ages. I'm also looking forward to Ani*Kuri a lot.

Oh oh, I have been away for too long, it seems. In the meantime, I have even watched Iblard Jikan and am overwhelmed by the beauty of its world, ahhh. I didn't understand anything of the story, but from its amazing visuals, it was the perfect anime to fall asleep to in the evening, heh.

Iblard Jinkan wasn't made as a story actually(there is no plot, therefore no need for dialogue or smth like that), rather it represents collection of works from an artist(Naohisa Inoue).

I'd suggest the addition of Iblard Jikan. The artwork is amazing, and they managed to pull it off with basically no dialogue for the entire movie.

Another possible addition is "Mahou Shoujo Tai Arusu"(4C, from the creator of G-9 btw). It's a light fantasy/fairy-tale with a bit children-like story(so far as I watched which would be around a quarter) and not a great directing imo. BUT the world(designs and "concept") there is absolutely unique, and that's a big "but")))

It reminds me of another anime from 4C "Arete Hime"(also recommended to be listed). Only Arete is better. It has a good story and directing there just marvellous.
And there's a big surprise in the end(there are hints along the way though) concerning all that "magic stuff".

++ Just noticed that Kanashimi no Belladonna isn't here. The work which paved the way for Utena and Rose of Versailles definitely can't be ignored :P

I came at the post below. Scavenging now.

New update on artistic anime!!!

Some of GAnime works(Gentosha and ToeiAni collaborative project) have been released:
G-9
Fantascope Tylostoma

These works represent "slow animation" that is done with presentation of separated paintings with no actual in-between animation(only some light CG). A bit similar to "Belladonna of Sadness", "Iblard Jinkan"(also should be considered as add-ons to club's list) and 1001 Nights.

Also [Doremi] presented a full-version(at last!) of "Ani*Kuri 15". A collection of showcase(minute-long) works of 15 animators. And classic anime-anthology "Robot Carnival" should be noted))

Oh hey, thanks for linking my club on here. I added the same list of clubs to mine as well. Hopefully it will help with the activity levels. :)

Ah, these titles look good indeed. I have seen Memories but totally forgot it when compiling the list. It's true that "Cannon Fodder" is the most artistically interesting of the three.

Now, Pale Cocoon and Eve no Jikan might be borderling within the definition mentioned, and perhaps I never questioned it because they (along with "Diary of Tortov Roddle") initiated my own interest in anime that have an artistical merit - for me.
So, how should I explain their "artsiness"? Aside from the fact that we established in our discussion in the group that it's difficult, even impossible to define, I think that "Eve no Jikan" has a great cinematography as this person describes much more aptly than I could: http://www.concretebadger.net/blog/2008/10/05/eve-no-jikan-time-of-eve-act02-sammy/#comment-45632

And oh by the way, now that the 2nd season of ef is airing, I'm thinking of adding that one too. But the story, ugh...

Some titles for consideration:

Kung-Fu Love
It's from the same compilation as Astroliner Gou so it shouldn't be too tough to decide on :P.

Memories: Cannon Fodder should also qualify easily. Tamala 2010 - a punk cat in space might be considered too.

I question Pale Cocoon and Eve no Jikan's presence on the list, though. How exactly are they artsy?

hahahah noooo... intention is often bad ^^ doing quite the opposite ^^

that's how we have guro ^^

but it does sound like a super fancy quote ^^ [worth of 3days long discussion]

madeener | Sep 10, 2008 7:04 AM
Intention is the fundamental human need to be understood and appreciated I guess :P

shegoblin | Sep 10, 2008 6:48 AM
joking? ^^

shegoblin | Sep 9, 2008 10:27 AM
