Hellooo? Anyone? Been dead here for a while.

So I was disappointed with Sidonia when it was first published. I read one chapter and was disgusted with Nihei's change of style. I believed he gave in to editorial pressure and created the antithesis of his traditional style. But in actuality he was slowly changing his style as shown with the second half of Biomega.

Anyway, I gave Knights of Sidonia a second chance recently and I am surprised how good it is. It plays with traditional shonen tropes and creates a fascinating sci-fi read. The plot is really well paced. Nihei has actually grown a lot from his beginnings. I'm excited for the anime next spring; I think it could get pretty big.

@Xuchiel
"lol Is that from this omake?"

Not really, but he draws himself as stag beetle. You'll also see that in another omake (Vienna trip) in volume 6. This omake shows how Nights of Sidonia started. He wanted to use CG modeling to create and design new type robot, but he gave up at the very first step of computer software modeling. Then, he started to make plastic robot model by hand. After he finished designing robot he called to his editors and said "I made it!" Editors thought he meant that first chapter of new title has completed. But after they arrived at his room, it turns out no pages have done. They saw a something wired robot figure and a middle aged old guy with full of simile. It was only two months before the deadline of new manga release...

"Tsutomu Nihei is a synthetic stag beetle created by the Toha Heavy Industries."

lol Is that from this omake?

Just guessing by the images as I couldn't actually read it.
But he is a comedian alright :D

Too bad the club's creator doesn't seem to be active to add anything or appoint a moderator to do it.

I love his hard SF stories! And loves other style, such as Knights of Sidonia and BLAME Gakuen too!

Please add at Information :P

Sidonia 8's out. I think Nihei's trying to do a romcom here...

Anyways, it seems the source of the gauna here are different than in Abara, no that it's actually ever explained there either. Could however just be a corruption of history. Any thoughts?

i see the conection betwin blame! and biomega..i mean...silicon based life forms..
and in both of them TOHA heavy industies is metioned....
but ABARA..that's a whole diferent story...
there's noi conection whatsoever...
in BLAME! and biomega...those things have special powers because they're silicon creatures...while in ABARA the powers come from spinal implant of a kinda-like-simbiotic-creature-virus...

SS4L | May 9, 2010 7:09 AM
someone should add more manga...

BLAME! Net Sphere Engineer
Dead Heads
Knights of Sidonia
Sabrina

Xuchiel, thanks alot dude ^^

JadeMatrix | Oct 3, 2009 6:03 PM
OK. The version I read must've just mistraslated or something. Or I just forgot. Yeah, probably that.

Xuchiel | Oct 3, 2009 11:48 AM
If to sum up the obvious in short:

in WAS they fight "THE GAUNAS" in space using some mechas and they do the same in Knights of Sidonia but using different mechas. In Abara we also have the Gaunas - this time it takes place on Earth. It would be logical to assume these 3 series are related in some way.

JadeMatrix | Oct 3, 2009 11:04 AM
Refresh my memory here — which 'verse does WAS belong to again? Someone said it was either a sequel/prequel to either Biomega/BLAME!. Personally, I couldn't see that.

Yeah, but there's still only the first three chapters scanlated. The Vagrants seem to be on hiatus right now.
