but those cards all have an immediate impact on the board. Goblin Guide has haste, figure of destiny becomes extremely difficult to kill. grim lavamancer will force spells to kill a 1 mana 1/1, because he pings. vexing devils is just a 4/3 vanilla.

The same could be said of Goblin Guide, Grimlavamancer, and Figure of Destiny.

but you ignored my point, burn causes opponent to dead draw into creature removal. keldon marauders is going to leave the field regardless of what you or the opponent does, which is why they won't waste removal on them. vexing devils will leave you with a creature that your opponent actually wants to get rid off. it gives players options, which is not good in a format where you get the best of what Magic offers.

The reason Keldon Marauders is used often in burn is because it's cheap it does damage entering and leaving play and is a 3/3, but has vanishing 2. Vexing devil is cheaper, can potentially in essence burn from the get go, is a 4/3 and stays in play.

Yes I would usually prefer a fireblast to a vexing devil near the end of the game, but I would usually prefer a vexing devil to lava spike, sulfuric vortex, grim lavamancer, rift bolt, or a magma jet.

one of the reason that burn somewhat works is the fact that you don't really run creatures. this kills a lot of cards in people's deck (targeted creature removal and sweepers). if an opponent has a way to deal with creatures, but not burn spells, they'll just let you have your 4/3, which will get blocked/killed/exiled.

kana-tan | Aug 21, 2012 2:43 AM
i'd rather topdeck a fireblast as opposed to a vexing devil

kana-tan | Aug 21, 2012 2:41 AM
yes, but just because a person made top 20 doesn't mean it would be a staple in the format. the fact that gives the opponent a choice over the card is what limits it.

werewolfofusa | Aug 21, 2012 12:15 AM
I would disagree, my friend got in 19th place out of over 300 people having four of Vexing Devil in his deck.

kana-tan | Aug 20, 2012 11:59 PM
vexing isn't good enough to be a staple. late game, most people will just let you have a 4/3 and probably have ways to deal with. its a good card, just not good enough for legacy.

Anyone go to Gencon?

werewolfofusa | Aug 8, 2012 9:31 AM
Sooo, what recent cards do you(everyone) think will become staples in Legacy? I think Vexing Devil will become a staple in Burn. Any thoughts?

There's also Entreat the Angels for it's miracle cost

Howdy, just joined.

@ Kana A good three drop, maybe Fiend Hunter, Silverblade Paladin, Sword of Feast and Famine, Sword of War and Peace, Oblivion Ring, or Dismember.

kana-tan | Jul 27, 2012 2:48 AM

Agreed Kana, and three colors is so easy to do right now. Naya Pod is really strong, there are also RUG and Bant versions doing well now too.

kana-tan | May 29, 2012 3:18 PM
5 color control and frites are both multi-color playable decks that can do well
