Miroku Tachi (裁 弥勒)

The lead character in Tsumi To Batsu. As the manga is an adaptation of Dostoyevsky's Crime and Punishment, he is modeled on Rodion Romanovich Raskolnikov. Shown to be somewhat of a hikikomori at the start of the series, he is later revealed to have been a student at an elite university in Tokyo, and an aspiring writer with fairly good promise, as evidenced by his near-success at a contest hosted by a literary magazine. Apparently , this rejection at the cusp of his break and the cynical reproach he got for his writing style serves as one of the baggage he is carrying around throughout the series.

Deeply idealist, he has the feeling that he is alone, walking among the ruins of human civilization, and all the buildings, and cars, and people bustling around trying to earn a living are still going on with their daily lives only due to inertia, or because they aren't initiated to the secret and magnificent collapse of humanity that only he witnesses.
