Anime Relations: Bakuman.
Well, DUH.
I was just on Bakuman's Wikipedia page, where (and I quote) Someguy What'shisface calls Bakuman a love letter to manga writing, only to subsequently put it down for (and now I actually quote) portraying females as either bitter, man-hating viragos motivated by grudges against men or patient helpmates striving to support them instead.

I'm assuming Mr Someguy means Iwase (of the former group), Azuki and Miyoshi (of the latter) here.
Shocked (only not entirely) and interested, I proceeded to Google 'bakuman sexism' to see if the rest of the Internet agreed.
And guess what?
It did, and so did I.
While Bakuman is among my favorite manga- up there with Dude Wut, There Goes My Self-Confidence and How Am I Supposed To Compete With This, I won't deny that the sexism is, at best, blatant and in-your-face. Subtle sexism I can deal with (at least Kishimoto made Tsunade Hokage to compensate for the whole Ino-Sasuke-Sakura love not-even-triangle), but making Azuki something akin to Princess Peach?
Yeah, otay, maybe Haruno Miyuki wasn't a final boss and as I recall, Mario never emailed Princess Peach, but it was a bit too much.

"Well, after Misa Amane and Kiyomi Takada, what d'you even expect?"

Oh, I dunno, how about some respect for my gender?

What'shisface completely forgot to mention the facts that
a) Kaya has "no dreams of her own", except for "you two to succeed~!"
b) Azuki is a stereotype. THE STEREOTYPE-NESS IS NEAR-FATAL.
c) Nakai. Just 'Nakai' would've been enough. Or Ishizawa.
d) Hiramaru fighting Nakai for Aoki? Really, Obata?
e) Shujin's tasteless dismissal of Iwase in ninth grade. So you "find her repulsive" because she's proud of her achievements? And you'd choose a tomboy with big boobs and bland acceptance of misogyny instead?

I guess I'm just too used to saying "Eh, whatever." and shrugging this shit off when the manga/anime's actually good. I still love Bakuman; they got SOMETHING right ('something' here would be 'everything else'). Sexism is just so deep-rooted in Japan, s'pose they can't help it.

... There might be more, but I'm too lazy~, so I'll leave off here for now.
I CANNOT write endings to anything, so don't expect too much.
Also, I'm a very inconsistent feminist- I just kinda needed to get this out.

Anime Relations: Youkai Watch
...That was inspired by Jibanyan.
My sister recently started watching Youkai Watch, and I tend to filthy casual each anime she watches, so~ I watched the first-or second, I'm not sure- ep with her.
And I have this weakness for kawaii neko-neko (I blame Fairy Tail entirely, which incidentally I also filthy casual-ed). So.
I think winter makes me more susceptible to the whole cat-thing (by the whole cat-thing, I mean cats_of_instagram- the most popular platform to showcase cat abuse) (I'm not even on Instagram). I mean, it's cold, cats are fluffy and my brain hates me. Make the connection already.
And now my sister's trying to bully our father into getting a cat.
It catches.
Nyaa~
