Animecon 2010 Almelo came and went being just as awesome as it was the last 2 years. There is just something special about having a building full of people who love anime, cosplay and all that stuff. Seriously good vibes there :)

Anyways it's been ages since I wrote anything cause it has been a while since I really watched much anime.

Animecon 2010:
Kara no Kyokai 6: Slightly odd episode, felt a bit out of place with the rest. Still nice though
Kara no Kyokai 7: Finale of the KnK series and a pretty damn awesome one. Animation quality awesome, the story very much not default but it did wrap it all up nicely. The only nag would be the too happy ending after the end credits, but that's nitpicking really.
Oblivion Island: Very nice, intresting blend between computer and drawn anime. The story is a bit similiar to spirited away, but different enough too. It has a Ghibli vibe to it, and that's not a bad thing.
Heroic Age: Space opera like, looked intresting if a bit bland.
Higashi no Eden OVA: The mystery movie. Set after the series which I didn't see, so left me a bit baffled.
Real Drive: Some more episodes, I should finish this one. The 2 episodes I did see were interesting.
Tower of Duruga, Sword of Uruk: See above. I should just go through series 1 and 2 in a massive sitting. It's not brilliant but seems quite entertaining.
Eureka 7 the movie: Wait, what? Same character, no relation to the tv series. It was a bit baffling to switch over to the same but not the same characters and the same but not the same background story. Having said this, it's not a bad movie. It's a very nice movie in itself.
Kuroshitsuji: Butler and master. I facepalmed beforehand. The odd thing is it seems to remind me more of Neuro thena butler/master series and I did really enjoy Neuro. I might catch a few more episodes.
More silly stuff from animecon:

Various AMV's.

First a quick review of winter 2010:
Hanamaru Kindergarten: Kindergarten. Turned out rather funny, but a bit repetitious at times. Funny and enjoyable.
Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu. This was awesome, the silliness and jokes were just great and the harem/pantsu/whatever vibes these kind of series have was kept well in check.
Katanagatari: Strange, but rather enjoyable. The art does a lot for this one.
Durarara: Never got around to it.
Sora no Woto: So I said I'd drop it like a rock if it went moeblob on me. It kinda did, but in an awesome way. Very enjoyable, nicely animated. Guess I like moeblobs :P

And then Spring 2010.
I haven't watched anything of this really, so I am just going to write down which one looked appealing.
Working, Arakawa under the bridge, Katanagatari , Gundamm Unicorn (My first gundam ever, heretic I am). There's prob more but I'm more watching 'real' series atm like Dr Who, Stargate Universe and Fringe.

Retro list:
Some things I watched which aired before I really watched anime....long ago. :)
Outlaw Star turned out rather awesome. Cowboy Bebop with less jazz and more sillyness.
Bubblegum Crisis. It's a damn classic with awesome songs.

The amount of 2009 anime series watched: 17
The amount of 2009 anime OVA's watched: 7 (Ongoing, hard to judge really)
The amount of 2009 anime movies watched: 1

I just realized that this is stuff from 2009 only. There was also quite a bit from previous years I watched, but this is a 2009 only review.

The seasonal list since 2007 I made earlier mentions Kimi no Todoke, Bakemonogatari, Hatsukoi Limited and Chrome Shelled Regios. Probably a good indication that the 2nd half of 2009 was a lot better in my opinion, everything pre summer was a 7 or lower. But then Bakamonogatari appears with a 9 and Kimi no Todoke with an 8, Clannad Kyou chapter with an 8 (Clannad just wins, I just rewatched a few scenes and it makes you go all <3 ) aand that's about it.

Nothing really major going on then, few awesomes and a lot of 'yeah they pass the time and are enjoyable'.

TL;DR?

  • Bakemonogatari
  • Kimi no Todoke
  • Clannad

Maybe I should get proper seasonal round ups instead of randomly writing stuff whenever.
And write a year overviews.
And get a damn consistent way of making posts.
Oh and use tags.
And stop being lazy on the related anime thing.

Urgh, another year. I can remember 2000 being a big deal like it was yesterday. Anyways, new season and it looks crap again.

Always a usefull guide.

HELL YEAH
Suspiciously empty category.

Sounds ok
Hanamaru Kindergarten: Kindergarten. Could be cute and innocent or could turn in Kodomo no Jikan (which I actually liked and not for the loli crap) both of which are fine. If it turn into pedobear's paradise however it gets dropped.

Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu : The baka from the titel trying to get even with the priviledged smart kids in magical school. Lokos like there might be some humour in this. Will prob watch this.

Dance in the Vampire Bund: Vampire loli to save the world from war. Erm, normally I'd drop it at that, but I rather like Shaft and the trailer was nice. Will prob watch.

Durarara: Guy moved to city and run into weird supernatural stuff. Loks mildy violent and strange, so I like it ... for now. Will watch.

Katanagatari: Historical, sword fighting. Very distinct animation style from the trailer, looks interesting. Will watch.

Maybe
Ookami Kakushi: Coming from the guy who did Higurashi, so can't be bad. Might have a look.

Sora no Woto: Sea without fish, towns without people, girls guarding a fort. And playing brass. I am confused, so I'll just have to see. If it turns into a moe blob, I'm dropping it like a hot potato.

Naah
Hidamari Sketch x ☆☆☆ : Didn't watch the previous runs so not watching this either.

Nodame Cantabile Finale: Didn't watch previous stuff so not watching this.

Harukanaru Toki ni Naka de 3; 3implies it part of a series I have never heard of. So no.

HELL NO!
Seikon no Qwasar: Drawing power from breastmilk... I don't think so

Chu-Bra : A school underwear club.... Can we say fanservice stupidity? So no, not watching.

Ladies vs Butler: Guy in a girls school to train as a butler. Fanservice alert. No.
Omamori Himari: Magical girl appears at a guy's home to tell him he's a demon slayer. Oh and she's a cat girl. And he's allergic to cats. (At least Nyan Koy sounded nice at the start) And there are tons of girls around. Harem alert. I'll skip this.

Now for OVA's and series.

Hellsing Ultimate episodes keep trickling in. I approve of them

Fate/Stay Night move. This might be rather cool.

Mid season review time!

  • Fairy Tail: Right. It's ok I guess.
  • Toaru Kagaku no Railgun: entertaining, awesome OP.
  • Sora no Otoshimono: Flying pantsu's!! HUGE BOOB MONSTERS *sigh* Why I am watching this?
  • Kiddy GIRL- AND: Wait, what? Oh well it moves and it has sound so I'll watch it I guess.
  • Kimi no Todoke: Season's favourite, I <3
  • Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu: Purezza: Seems to have gone from pretty funny season 1 to FANSERVICE AHOY mode in season 2. *sighs more*
  • Shakugan no Shana S: Good Shana episodes!! o/
  • Seitokai no Ichizon: This COULD be funny yet... urgh...
  • Sasameki Koto: Enjoyable. Sumika makes you want to pat her on the head, but she might beat you up for it :P
  • Nyan Koi!: HAREM ALERT! Still it is enjoyable in all it's silliness.

Always a pain to score stuff. What is a 3, what is worth a 10. Since I kinda forget myself too a quick list of what is worth what:

1 - Total utter crap. No redeeming qualities at all. Dropped like a steaming turd it is. I have no examples because I probably didn't want to remember.

2 - Well, at least the animation is ok-ish. Or the idea is original. Other then that is makes my brain explode.

3 - Stuff that is BAD but actually watchable. Series that makes you wonder WHY AM I WATCHING THIS, yet you are...for about 5 minutes. Instantly forgettable afterward. Or not.. when you're scarred for life. Like in the case of Queen's Blade Lactating Acid Bunny Girl. (though the bunny girl is so bad she's rather epic again)

4 - Some weird in between category I can't really define right now. Prob has a redeeming quality, but it makes me fall asleep. Think 5 episodes Dragonball Z fights. Yes I watched some. Zzzzz.

5 - The animation might be meh, the plot might be meh, the premise might be meh, but it's only one of those things. Something might just keep you coming back to watch for more (Rosario+Vampire, ugh it's so annoying sometimes, yet I keep watching it)

6 - Watched it, was entertained. Ask me in 2 years and I won't really remember. Did the job. Could be good but something leaves me feeling meh a bit (too much fanservice, plot got lost along the way, animation just doesn't mesh, just not that awesome in general) (Night Wizard)

7 - Nice, good entertainment. I remember the character's names after a week is a good sign of it. Good way to spend sometime.

8 - I LIKE it! Thoroughly entertaining, something that makes you feel fuzzy, sad, happy or makes you giggle insanely all the time. It might not be a total masterpiece but it sure kept you waiting for next episode everytime. (Kimi no Todoke)

9 - Truly epic, You'll remember this fondly even 20 years later. Stuff that you dread to rewatch sometimes cause it has such an emotional impact. (Gunslinger Girls)

10 - Basically something that changed your life. Almost nothing is ever this awesome. (Haibane Renmei)

Of course this is all pretty subjective. It's also relative to what already is in that category. Is Spice and Wolf better then Claymore? It probably is, but it's still both a 7 to me. Is Shigofumi better then Spice and Wolf? I think so but not by that much, but enough to bump it up to 8. Basically 8 and up is stuff that I love. Below that it is all a bit more vague.

Still Haibane Renmei always was a clear 10 to me.
