~Prologue~
Whitewashed

its strange how you make friends as a child, isn't it? It's mostly over some stupid argument, or a fight, sometimes even when you're sitting together in class. But later on you start to forget how you even became friends, quite strange, right?

''So, you're from Roppongi, right?''

Those words still ring and buzz around in my mind, and even to this day, I can't seem to go any further into history.

Was it a sunny day? Yes, it was, I prefer rainy days. But that's beside the point.
The day we moved from Roppongi, I hated it in Japan, and I still hate this new country.
By the start of 1997, we were received news that a new country was shaped, in Europe, in-between Latvia and Sweden, a country called Stutjaeatha. It took a long while for them to create this future like environment.

And as of now, well, I like there. It's alright, but as always, there are stupid people, like every other place.

What a drag, seriously.

''Yeah, we're from Roppongi, but we got tired of the place so just moved all the way here.''
Said a woman shrouded in summery clothing. Her face was being blocked by a pair of sunglasses, a long scarf and a large straw-hat.

''Come on Bukimi, say hello. This is our new home.'' Said the woman kindly.

Holding the woman's left hand, was a small girl, with long blue hair, a simple summer dress and sandals. She looked shy towards the tall man in front of her mother.

''Mommy, can't we just go to the place already? You know I don't like people.''
''Hahaha, I'm not that scary you know.'' Said the man while laughing.
The little girl strained her mom's hand and looked away shyness.

''So, you're sure you moved all the stuff from Roppongi all the way to here? It must've been quite the experience.''
The woman had a short conversation with the man, who was apparently one of the movers

''Eh...'' He replied, ''I guess you can say that, but I'm gonna get moving to the next job, have fun in Stutjaeatha!''
The man stepped into the car and drove off.

A few minutes later, the woman and child stood in front of their new large house, it was indeed enormous, and something you would normally see on a rich TV channel, a swimming pool, a huge garden, pretty much everything a house can get.

''Let's see... now just need to call dear and Yumi, and wait for them here.'' The woman exclaimed.
''So… How do you like it Bukimi? Isn't it pretty? Our house in Roppongi was big, but looks at this!''

''I hate it! Japan was more fun!'' The girl replied while pouting and having a facial expression as if she just ate something really sour.
''Now now Bukimi, you'll just get used to it eventually.''

''No! I won't! I hate it!''

''You never change, sweetie.''

As days passed by, living in the big house, as a family of four people, they eventually adjusted to their new environment. Easily adapting to a whole new different country, not even close to Japan, but located in the Baltic Sea in Europe.

Stutjaeatha, was a country created not long ago, people around the planet wanted a way to let more cultures live in the same place, experiencing more knowledge over the world and its massive mysteries. Thus the country of Stutjaeatha was created, a country were different cultures bonded together. American, Japanese, French, English, and much more were all joined together into this one nation of Stutjaeatha.

But before coming here, there was only one rule, and that is to speak English. Because the world found it the easiest language, so before moving to this country, the people must learn English beforehand.

The family Honshitsu, was one of the first Japanese families in Stutjaeatha, consisting out of four family members, two parents and two daughters.
Wealthy known in Roppongi, they got sick of the fame and wanted some well-deserved rest from Japan.

Along with new incoming families, the country had a divergence split in between different cultures, these were secluded by borders around the country, people would still be able to move everywhere they want in Stutjaeatha, but they would have to live in their respective culture border.

A few days later, the small girl called Bukimi was slowly adapting to her new home. But making friends was always still hard for her. But one day, she was not feeling so cheery and went to the beach, alone.

The day was stormy, unpleasant and the sky was grey, not a shred of the sky could be seen.
The beach was surrounded by some houses in the back, which eventually formed a small city, a city with a big amount of people, markets, and houses. In-front the beach, was a huge sea, the Baltic Sea, no one knew what mysteries laid within this blue heaven.

''Hmph! This place stinks!''
Bukimi was pondering whilst walking on the beach's soft sand. She looked at the dark sea, with its tidal waves on this dark day.

''Hey... can I see that shell?''
Without knowing so, another small figure was standing behind Bukimi.
''What?! Who are you?''
The small silver-haired girl looked Bukimi into the eyes with her own blue eyes.
''My name is Hachisu, Hachisu Summertime, and you are?''
''Well aren't you polite, anyway, what about a shell?'' Bukimi said without even introducing herself.

The girl named Hachisu pointed at a shell right next to Bukimi's feet.
''Oh.''

They both looked at the shell with amazement; it wasn't just a normal shell. Instead of a dark ugly brown colour, it almost seemed like it was shining with the tone of light caramel

Hachisu slowly touched it with her index finger, in full surprise it opened quickly, with a ray of shining light coming out of it.

''Watch out!''
Bukimi quickly pulled her away, but quickly looked at the shell, which at the time wasn't giving off a light anymore.

With its open mouth, the shell didn't have a pearl in it, nor some sand, but instead a shiny watery substance that gave off the colour from a rainbow.

''What the heck kinda shell is this?!'' Bukimi exclaimed.
Hachisu looked at it with confusion, wondering what just happened in the first place.

They both sat around the shell, with its radiant substance. Hachisu was interesting and slowly decided to touch it with her right hand. At the very moment her finger touched the substance, it began to form into a bracelet-like object. But quickly afterwards it started to spin like a small whirlpool, splashing the essence over the two non-aware girls. Thankfully Hachisu was able to use her elbows as shield. But Bukimi wasn't that lucky, or was she?

A splash of the whirlpool got caught in Bukimi's right eye; she scratched it for a while due to irritation. But then, slowly after removing her hand from her face, Hachisu noticed something extraordinary. Her eye, it wasn't orange anymore, but instead it was green.

''Uhm, your eye, it's...''
''What?!''
''Well, uhm, green.''
''GREEN?!''

Oddly enough, this sudden change of mood, had effect on her right eye, and changed its colour to a burning red. Bukimi look in the reflection in the sea, and she knew Hachisu was right; her eye colour was indeed changing. By cooling down, it changed again, this time to a pure claming blue.

''Was it... because of that...'' Bukimi pointed at the shell in confusion. ''SHELL?!''

''I don't know... no colour is changing on me.''
''Wait a second.'' Said Bukimi. ''Since this is a bracelet! Let's put it on ya, Hachisu.''

''Waaaah! What are you doing?''
In a quick second Bukimi placed the object around Hachisu's right arm.

For some bizarre reason, the bracelet didn't hurt her; it just sustained itself floating around her wrist, and was shining green. Just like Bukimi's eyes, this bracelet was also changing colours.

They looked at each other and decided to randomly shake hands.

''You know, you're pretty cool Hachi.''
''You too.... whatever your name is.''
''Amber Bukimi Hachisu, but call me Bukimi!''

She did not expect this at all, that this random girl named Hachisu, would turn out to be her best friend for a life time.
But of course, people were worried about these strange colour changing features of these two children. They went to the best doctors in the entire country, it was a remarkable feature, but it didn't turn out to be anything life-threating nor dangerous, so they didn't bother with it anymore, but still kept on doing monthly researches.

This girl, the girl named Hachisu Summertime, lived in a British part of Stutjaeatha, Jointing-way. Turned out she was half Japanese and half British and originally came from Newcastle. Even though this weird bracelet was floating around her wrist, unable to break loose, she didn't mind it.

Along Bukimi's childhood, she met more people than just Hachisu, she also met a boy by the name Sora, Sora Ariruhekisan, where he came from, no one knew. His pink spikey hair always was easy to recognize. Who easily turned out to be the third person in the little group of odd people?

Bukimi, who had to defend Hachisu during school and outside, gained quite some fighting sense. It seems that even though this country, Stutjaeatha was made out of different cultures, and it seemed some people were still racist towards certain people who walked in their territory. Hachisu Summertime, was one of these people, just because she came from England, fellow schoolmates and children her age didn't like her walking into Ochinaki, even if it was with a friend like Bukimi.

Sora, who's family had run a high-tech weapon company, received the request to be trained, Sora accepted out of interest, using his training as self-defense. Although some laws prohibited weapon use in public, it was only for certain borders of the country. Since it was unknown where Sora exactly lived, Bukimi and Hachisu just figured he had a house in Ochinaki, due to his Japanese name.

Hachisu, who pretty much grew up normally, still had some weird moments in her life. That bracelet that she kept wearing for years, eventually became much more than just a colour changing object. One day she was just minding her own business whilst out of nowhere a string of water came floating out of her bracelet, she must've triggered this supernatural moment somehow she thought, and eventually began training this movement.

Anyway, around seven years, news came to the Honshitsu, since they were one of the richest families among the country; scientists requested an operation, an operation for Bukimi. It appears they discovered DNA from an old race, called the FATE. The name ''Fate'' was probably just a code-name. They probably didn't even know what the race was actually called.

Although it seemed suspicious at first, the Honshitsu family accepted, with Bukimi's permission, as she was already thirteen at the time and quite interested in the operation. Even though she knew it could risk her life, she still wanted to try due to her enormous curiosity.

A few days later, the procedure finally began, and her two best friends were sitting in the dark hallway. They both looked out of the window; it was extremely sunny, but not sunny for them.

''You think she'll be alright, Sora?''
''It's Bukimi we're talking about here! Chill out.'' His smile could boost everyone’s confidence.
''Well, yeah, but still... I'm scared.''
''Haha, don't be, everything will be fine.''
''But the doctors said it could risk her li-'' Before she could finish her words Sora interrupted with a positive attitude and said:
''Us thinking darker than black isn't gonna help her, now is it? We gotta stay positive.''
Hachisu nodded her head.
''Well, alright then.''

The two were sitting on a bench, in the waiting hall. There was not a single soul to be found. Not even a reception lady at the desk, it was all empty. In the room close to the hall, the operation was going on and all that could be heard was a silent monotone peep of Bukimi's heartbeat.

''Scalp!''
''Liquid!''
''Tube!''
All those words came from the doctors doing their work in the room, swiftly giving each other their material.

Even though Sora was clearly a positive person, his legs were shaking as he heard every second of the heartbeat, slowly peeping every second seemed like a year to his ears. He kept on wandering around the empty room, pacing back and forth. Hachisu told him several times to sit down but he wouldn't accept.

''Come on, come on, and hurry up already!'' Sora exclaimed in anger towards the room of doctors who most likely couldn't even hear him.

''Sora! Calm down!''

''Shut up Hachisu! I can't take this! Maybe you don't care, but I damn well do!''
His face was full of rage and sadness.
''...''
''I-I'm sorry Hachisu, I'm just mad, okay?''
His anger cooled off and he decided to sit again, whilst closing his eyes and hoping everything goes smoothly.

''DONE!'' One of the doctors screamed in excitement.

The two friends of Bukimi started puffing of relieve, and stood up to walk towards the room. But suddenly a little ball came rolling out of the room, a bouncy ball most likely too. It was green and looked quite odd as it rolled towards Sora's feet.

He picked it up with a questioning face.
''What is this?''
Out of the blue, a green light emitted from the ball, piercing Sora's eyes with light.

''BOOYAH BITCHES!''

In-front of Sora, a girl mysteriously appeared, shrouded with green light that slowly faded away from each corner of her body.

''BUKIMI?!'' Sora shouted.

He was right. It was Bukimi, but oddly enough enveloped with translucent green light around her, which finally faded away. His face was full of mysteries as his mouth was wide open. Hachisu too was scared but yet fascinated by this occurrence.

''So yeah, I'm apparently a FATE now, or whatever.'' Bukimi said bluntly.
''Right doctor?'' Or at-least something along those lines.''
Out of the room, a doctor emerged towards the hall, with a standard white doctor's coat and a pair of glasses.
''A FATE is not the correct term, miss. But we assume they are called AFDRIF, which is actually an Icelandic word. Maybe this rare specimen of humans or even aliens still exists in Iceland, our resources mostly say no. But anyway, be careful with that ball, we somehow copied off an ability of these rare species. Also, as you two witnessed earlier.'' He focused on Hachisu and Sora whilst taking off his glasses. ''This girl was appearing out of thin air. She teleported, as you might call it, this was a unique trait of the AFDRIF. Years have been spend into this research and we figured out they were capable of doing this through black hole material.''

''Black hole material? Teleportation?! What is going on doctor? How is this possible?!'' Hachisu exclaimed with a confused on her face, as if she's just seen a monster or something.

Sora next to her snapped and grabbed the doctor by his neck.

''What did you do to her?! I know technology is important and all. But human experimenting is wrong godammit! EXPLAIN YOURSELF!''

''Let me go, you!'' The doctor screamed as Sora eventually let him go.

''Fine, but explain.''

''Don't worry my boy. It's not dangerous to the human body; we operated some of her brain functions without erasing her memory, emotions or whatsoever. And injected her with some specimen of the DNA we found of the AFDRIF, and also combined the teleportation and black hole theory into her and both this ball. To put it simple, she could teleport wherever that ball is. But using it too much would cause a headache, so be careful Amber.''

''It's not Amber! It's Bukimi. Gah!''

Sora relaxed for a second and laid his hand on his chest, cooling off slowly.
''That's a load of my heart I guess, but how the hell is she teleporting?''

The man once again responded with a smart lecture.
''We all know black holes are an interested source. But we actually tried sending a robot in a black hole, and guess what? It actually worked, we used special material on it and it just teleported away somewhere, where? We do not know unfortunately, but our project was a success so we didn't bother with it anymore. We assume that the AFDRIF used this black hole system, but we are yet unsure. I could go on for hours about this project, but let's not, shall we?''

''But listen up girl.'' The face of the doctor suddenly became quite serious. ''Do not use it too often, you'll suffer from extreme headaches, they aren't life-treating, but will damage your health. I don't mean you shouldn't use it at all, just don't go over the extreme, alright?'' He said with a wry smile.

''Well, Bukimi, We're just happy you're alright.'' Said Sora with a happy smile.

Everyone seemed happy with the situation and quite adapted. But the calmest one, Hachisu, was not.
''Experiments? Headaches? Black holes? AFDRIF?! You have to be fucking kidding me...''

Sora tried to respond to her harmful words.
''Hachisu! You never curse like this! Are you alright?''

Instead of calming down than she usually does, her face formed a strange emotion of fear and anger combined. Out of the blue, her bracelet started to faint away, like a gooey substance falling on the floor like poison. Some bits fell on the ground and turned into wispy like energy that slowly but surely took on a shape.

''What's wrong?!'' Bukimi screamed, trying to reach her.

No response, nothing at all. Whilst in the meantime, the wisps took a shape, a shape of something strange.

''SNAKES?!''

Sora pulled back quickly and took a step back, taking the doctor with him, which only seemed to be interested but yet feared by this occurrence.

These snake creatures formed out of energy powder seemed very unstable and were all different colours, for some reason based off a rainbow. All they did was stick out their tongue and spit. They did nothing more for a few seconds, but then started to fade like sand on a windy beach, along with the colours of their skin, slowly breezing away.

''What wa-?!'' Hachisu regained control of her body again, but her eyes seemed empty and hollow, her bracelet stopped pouring and regained its original form again.
She did nothing but stand still in her place, looking up the ceiling with those emotionless, bland eyes.

Bukimi felt at peace and slowly walked to Hachisu, only to grab her arm and make sure she's alright. But before she could even touch her hand, a small force was stopping her from doing so. From the bracelet, a tiny wind blew, scratching Bukimi's finger and making a small wound.
But a small wound wasn't enough to stop her, she pushed her hands through the small gale and grabbed Hachisu's hand.

Those eyes which were dark a second ago, regained their vivid blue colour. Looking at the room, Hachisu felt at ease again.

''What did I do? I'm really sor- HU-UUUH!'' Out of her mouth came no words, but without a warning, blood. From the happening a few seconds ago, it caused her to vomit up blood furiously, trying to cover it up with her hand as it gushed on the floor. Then plummeted down on the floor.

''Hachisu?!'' Sora and Bukimi both screamed at the same time.
They sat around her and yelled her name a few more time, they could also see the bracelet of her sparkling in a dark way, but then slowly turning back to how it was, moments ago.

''DOCTOR!''

Just like that, the day ended, Hachisu was brought to the hospital, and check-ups were done at the bracelet. But they found nothing; even the best scientists couldn't find anything and just thought if something happened, it should be good now.
Sora and Bukimi also thought it was alright with her now, after checking on her every day, they were certain. And eventually after a few weeks, Hachisu went home again, the bracelet was still around her wrist and she still trained every day in controlling it's weird potential, after all, it was just washed ashore one day.

One fateful day though, the doctor asked the three to come back to the lab, to explain some stuff. About some confusion Bukimi was having with her operation, and also why not many people found it strange that she was teleporting everywhere.

''Alright, so what is it?'' Bukimi stood in the same room were her operation was, in the same lab, just like she was a few weeks ago.

''I got one positive thing you might like Am- Ms. Honshitsu. If you teleport, let's say from one mile to another mile, your body will take it as if you had walked that entire mile. So this might be easy to lose weight or something, not that you would need to.''

''I'm jealous, I always have to run everywhere Bukimi!'' Hachisu pouted with a slight envious face.

''I'm also glad to see you again, Ms. Summertime, We were worried you might have stumbled across some strange virus, but all things turned out good eventually.''

''I guess so? I'm just happy everything's fine now, what caused that weird occurrence anyway? Couldn't have been god or something, he doesn't exist, hehe..''

''You sure love being an atheist like that don't you?''

''Well, it's fun to make puns like that.''

''Oh, also, Mr. Ariruhekisan. Keep on rocking!''

''... What?'' Sora muttered in confusion.

''Wow. Sense, doctor, sense. That sentence had none.'' Hachisu added.

''Gotta laugh once in a while you know! Harrharr.''

The doctor finally made his last word and returned to the room, but before opening the door he looked at Bukimi and said:
''We will ensure the entire country about this, so if you do use it in public, you won't get caught by the police of even shot at.''

Bukimi rubbed her forehead.
''Hehe, alright. Oh boy, sure gonna be fun, the entire country knowing who I am. Lovely'' She said sarcastically.

That was all there was to say, she didn't need to know anymore, especially since this doctor loved to explained stuff in long detail. But one question still lingered on in everyone's head.

''What were those rainbow snakes? What do they represent?''
