fuck man this shit is about to look bogus. in an attempt to finish my physical backlog of fifty plus i forbade my self from seeing anything that came out in twenty-twenty-one past march I think. expect re zero and eva four but also fuck re zero. now i also made a bunch of video game goal to get back into them, mainly beat every matsuno rpg (which i did and was a lot of fun!), and my penchant for wanting to binge absolutely random shit i got through about ninety-three different animations. hey not bad!

now to rank fifteen of them, to make up for not doing two lists, and disagree with it six months later.

hey maybe i should actually write down some thoughts while also avoid work. sure!!
i have a bad (?) tendency for not wanting to watch shows that are revered unless it’s in some puritan form, like a $50+ disc boxed in plastic spinning in a game console i received as a christmas gift (as they all are) on a television (maybe a projector) while laying on a couch with candles being the only ambient light that lets me navigate my way to the kitchen or washroom, shuffling my feet hoping to god i don’t trip over my semi-uncoordinated brain-fogged ass while also hoping no one DM’s me cuz im busy watching people 20 years younger than me scream at the injustices torturing their lives internally and externally.

it has led me to buy a lot of anime that i don’t know if i will truly like without some sort of bias since my brain parasite forced me to feed a website my credit card, but i often think that by pirating a show could lead to a reverse bias (a sense of laziness) in engaging with a work since there were no stakes with initiating that engagement.

BUT ALSO ECONOMICS IS BUSTED AND THAT MONEY AINT COMING WITH ME WHEN I DIE SO YOU’RE WELCOME SEAN KLECKNER RETIREMENT FUND BE DAMNED.

it felt real fucking good, and i mean -fucking- good to watch almost nothing but classics. on the side i’ve been watching all anime related to the visual novel Key and Maeda Jun since middle of 2020, bleeding over to 2021 where we are now starting fate unlimited blade works, fate being another franchise i only wanted to chance at puritanly by starting with the novel. i did not like most if not all those works from maeda. their approach is much like shinkai where the core drama just is never enough. playing clannad is gonna be another year and rewrite will have to be a another some years after that cuz rewrite is a such higher concept than everything else which makes sense when it’s a different set of writers.

lodoss war was a trip. gobbling the first novel and all the core anime minus crystania and barring the obvious lack of visual splendor the tv series has it helped me obtain peace with swathes of fantasy shows being pumped out by the light novel industry and the reservation of creative freedom i saw from staying within the rpg code. faraway paladin, the novel, carries lodoss’ mantle by reaching for the more literal inspiration of table top rpgs that even more don’t. Other japanese fantasy fiction go for the nearest point of imagination instead of what’s outside of it or even its progenitor. lack of time and need for cash are good excuses, but it’s also an excuse for me to be fully confident that I will not enjoy goblin slayer when i peak at it in my attempt to “watch 200 of the most popular anime I have yet to see” goal for 2022. respect the lore!!
