Anime Relations: Bocchan
Welcome back to me screaming into the void, with even less of an effect overall. Today I will be doing a double bill of some manga I've read, I would write full reviews but I have a lot of manga to read so...

#1 I sold my life for ten thousand yen per year.
(Jumyou wo Kaitotte Moratta. Ichinen ni Tsuki, Ichimanen de)
The premise is that a good for nothing man decided to sell his lifespan, a whole 30 years leaving him with a mere 3 months left to live. The girl who bought his lifespan is now watching over him for his last 3 months, called the "Observer" she keeps tabs on client's actions and should they try anything they will be killed in 20 minutes.

I read the series in an hour and can safely say that was one hell of a way to start my day with a sense of bittersweet depression. This is a tear-jerker I would wholeheartedly recommend reading though maybe I should lay off on these before I lose my already weak will to live.

Spoilers ahead:

The twist with the MC's childhood friend left me stunned honestly, though maybe it's because I'm denser than a black hole I hadn't seen that coming, the ending was nice though with both the observer and the MC living their last three days together in euphoria. I think it was a shame that we didn't see how exactly they met their ends but I hope that their final resting spot was by the lake of the girl's dreams.

Spoilers end:

Well before I get too depressed to type here's a far more wholesome manga without people slowly dying.

#2 The Duke of Death and His Black Maid
(Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid)
On the topic of death here's a more wholesome and ecchi one where a child gets cursed by a witch where everything he touches will die. Cast out to a remote mansion where he shall stay till he either dispells the curse or dies, he now lives with his butler Rob and of course his maid Alice.

The duke and Alice are both in love we each other and she constantly makes moves on him (to both his delight and embarrassment) but should the duke even make contact with her she will die. Thus begins a nice rom-com arrangement with a bit more plot and character development than your usual one. To be fair on one of the arcs sparked some emotions from my flinty heart, which is impressive coming from a rom-com of all things.

Well that wraps up my manga double bill,

Side note:

Why the heck can't I tag any manga?

Anime Relations: Tenki no Ko
Welcome one and all to a person who frankly holds his opinions far too highly. In this entry I will be talking about the newest Makoto Shinkai film "Weathering with You" while I had already wrote a review of it, I want to go more in-depth of the film itself. *Spoiler Warnings*

The story is built around our main protagonists Hina and Hodaka, and set in a rain stricken Tokyo. Hina can clear the weather in small areas by praying, and Hodaka who is just happy to be here. The main pair interact far more than in your name, which is honestly lovely as the main pair has fantastic chemistry.
The supporting cast is also really enjoyable to watch on screen as well, with the playboy Sakura being my favorite among them. The writing is solid which is expected of a Shinkai film and there isn't much to complain in terms of the characters.
The plot is great, with there being only a few complaints on my end. Hodaka runs away from home in the first scene he's in though the reason why he had taken such drastic measures is not explained at thoroughly. We're given "The atmosphere there was suffocating" as the only reason when mentioned in the movie, but it's not that big a niggle. (The manga goes more in-depth with this though.)
I think Shinkai must have taken the term Chekhov's gun a little too literally with a gun being the item in this case. The foreshadowing is great, especially when watching it a second time to fully understand the importance of this or that. (Hodaka first appears with a bandaged nose and cheeks which corresponds to where he is injured in the final act.)
The music, however, is a little disappointing with RADWIMPS returning to make the soundtrack. While the OST is by no means bad it is significantly less impactful than your name's Dream Lantern or Zen Zen Zense. However, Grand Escape and Is there still anything love can do? are still fantastic in my book.
*Major spoilers if any of you ignored my first warning*
The ending is quite great with the Hodaka exclaiming "I love you more than any blue sky!" as he dooms an entire town/country. As Hina has to be sacrificed to return Tokyo's weather back to normal, Hodaka saves her and by proxy causing Tokyo to become submerged over time to the unceasing rain.
Have I mentioned the art is stellar? The scenes with rain in it really shows that the art somehow manages to top your name's.
Conclusion
First of all, I would wholehearted recommend this movie to any anime fan and going in preferably blind to any spoilers. The movie while not as outstanding as your name is still a worthy follow up to it. Also make sure to read the manga when that comes out too.
