9/17/80-9/18/08
Today was finally the day that I had been waiting for for a long time, the day I leave for the Anime Weekend Atlanta trip. The day pretty much stared with me getting up at nine and having to take a test that I was going to miss while I would be gone and then going to chemistry to learn about crime scene stuff even though I'm not a criminal justice major. I quickly stuff my face with some of the school's food before going since I might as well use up a meal before I go. I get back to my room to put away my books and pick up some last minute stuff before I go, the only thing I have trouble finding is my calcium pills, I assume that I already had packed them and head on my way. When I get home I have to fill out some paperwork for the lawyer, it is only signing one line but for some reason it takes about twenty minutes to do this. While home I get a couple of DVDs to be signed and my suit in the very small chance that I find someone to go to the ball with. First before going I need to scrape up some money for the PS3 that I'm buying from a friend, the money for the hotel, and some extra money for the dealer's room. I set out on the road and thereisn't much incident, I run into some semi-heavy traffic in Jersey but that's just about it. The first stop on my way there is to pick up my friend Dan, who I've know as Arden Jace for almost a year. I get to the infamous Virginia Tech where he goes to school, basically we just bullshit around for a few hours, talking about how awesome Gurren Lagann is and interpretations of Evangelion. We get out of the school at around five so that we could hopefully arrive in Atlanta at around eleven. We drive on for a few hours, he falls asleep naturally. At around eight I'm starting to get tired, mainly since I've been up since around nine the previous morning. I pull over and plan to sleep until a little after nine but since I woke up before then I decide to leave, Dan informs me that I snore, I've actually been wondering this for quite a while. I get going a little further and decide to call another friend I'm meeting up with how long it will be until he arrives at the hotel since he's the one who booked it, he doesn't pick pick up, I figure he's in class and he wouldn't be able to pick up. He calls me a few minutes later saying that he's going to be arriving somewhere around three-thirty and four-thirty, that's a little later than I thought but it's no bother. I tell him that I will be getting there in about an hour or a little bit more. Not ten minutes later we hit a traffic jam that moves no more than two miles in the hour that we're in it. After it lets up I'm dead tired, I need caffine. We pull over into a Burger King and get lunch. After a slight mishap due to Google Map's directions we finally get to the hotel after twenty-five hours. When we get there I see a few cosplayers, but they've gone all out, entire luggage carts filled with wigs, costumes and make-up, I had no idea that people were in to cosplay this much. Me and Dan are bored so we call up another friend who lives about ten minutes away. We just go around to Walmart and Best Buy, where I buy some calcium since I thought I might have forgotten mine. While playing Guitar Hero in Best Buy we get a call from Martin, the guy who booked the hotel saying that he needs us all there to get the money for our room. We all arrive there and wait for Age and UNOwen, the creaters behind AMV Blitz! to get there. They eventually do and we bring our mutlitudes of video game systems up to the room and unpack. For the first time in my life I see someone beat Through the Fire and the Flames on expert. After we play video games for awhile it's time for me and Age to head over to the AMV editors dinner at The Cheese Cake Factory. This is the first time I actually seen the inside of the convention center, the place is enormous, then I see the dealer's room,
I regret putting one thousand dollars in to my checking account. We wait around the ice sculpture of the hotel waiting for the rest of the editors to get there. We finally leave about forty-five minutes later than we are supposed to since very few of the people who said they would show up actually did. When we finally leave I realize that since I didn't get my pre-registry done, I'll have to go over bright and early to get my pass. I order the shrimp scampy, compleytely worth $30. While we're there Owen talks about how many "random" screenings he's gotten due to his middle-eastern appearance. Age thinks that he might have to go to the hospital before the weekend is over, poor guy. Now as I'm writing this I'm extremely sleep deprived, so that's it until tomorrow.

9/19/08
Today was the first morning of the actual convention, which involved me being prodded awake to the sound of a train playing off of someone's laptop. I woke up, showered, and then went down to the convention center to wait in line forever and pick up my pass. we played some card game to pass the time, I understood very little of this game but whatever can just pass the time. The line finally moves and I get my pass in only about five minutes. Me and Age were going to sprint for the dealer's room to try and pick some import games up. Much to Ages, and I guess my, dismay the entire convention didn't start until noon. So we decided to wait until it opens standing in line to be the first to the dealers' room. While waiting I saw some nice cosplay costumes, the best one I saw both in that line and all day was this girl who was Lelouch, including a $180 contact lens that had the geass on it, I must say that I've never been more attracted to a "man" in my life. While waiting UNOwen shows up in a suit with his desu'd Billy the Puppet mask, people start taking his picture not even grasping the inside joke that's going on. The dealers' room finally opens and it's a mad rush to get in, I don't immediately see a section to import games, there were a bunch of H-games on one table including the one of the only real import games that I was interested in, which is not an H-game just to let you know. The game was $68, not worth it at all. I start wondering around the dealer's room to see just what is there, I got separated from the group I was with, there was so much stuff I just didn't care though, there was so much stuff there. I didn't see any line for the autograph session so I decided to leave for this trivia bingo thing to see if I could win something, I didn't. I don't realize what time it was and it there was only about ten minutes left until the autograph session, I go to where I think the autographs are being held, I see no one there... there is no doubt that I've been looking at the wrong place the whole day. I see that a little bit down is the actual line... that wraps around the whole corner of the room. I get in line and wait...for an hour and a half, it was worth it though since I got to meet Travis and Vic. After that I go to meet up with everyone else who went to "Craziest Anime Deaths" viewing in one of the rooms. I end up going around the whole convention looking for this place. By the time I actually find the place there's some Naruto thing going on, naturally I just leave. I run in to some of the guys on the way out of the room, we decide to go back to the hotel while I'm there. Pretty much as soon as I get back it's almost time for the Funimation panel, I wanted to ask them why they got a bunch of fansubbers to stop a bunch of shows that they haven't even licensed themselves, I didn't actually ask them since that would probably make me look like a giant asshole. I stick for the Bandai panel and end up getting some pins, nothing big. Then I have an hour to kill time before the Blitz! showing, really the whole reason I came. I meet up with Martin and we just kind of wander and talk about stuff, we eventually meet up with a few of his friends. He mentions his favorite clip from Blitz!, it was one made by me, I find this very flattering. We go to the MEP showings to see how everyone takes it in. Other than Blitz! there were a couple more artistic ones and some other one. The one shown before us completely blew ours away, but since it's done in a completely different style it doesn't really matter. Then Blitz! is finally shown, it went over very well, a lot of people laughed a lot, it was a much better reception than I was expecting, some people even left immediately after it not waiting for the others. The next one was like the first one but I thought that it wasn't as good. Then the last one was a bunch of people doing one entirely off of Limp Bizkit songs, the video was good, obviously since it's Limp Bizkit the audio sucked. Then we just went back to the hotel room, watched AMV Heck which made me realize how much better we did than others, and now we're plan on going to the Midnight madness over at the center.

9/20/08
so we all head over to the main room to watch an event called "Midnight Madness" which was basically a bunch of fan-dubs from what I stayed for. The first one was called "Evangelion: ReDeath", it was pretty damn good too. After that was some parody of Inuyasha to Lord of the Rings that was extremely boring, I don't think I laughed once throughout the whole thing. After that was a fan-dub of Dirty Pair that also wasn't funny, so I headed back to the room. After being in the room for about twenty minutes trying to sleep Age gets a call saying that AMV Hell/0 is about to premiere, possibly before we can arrive there. We all make a mad rush over to
the room and get there just about in time for it to start. It was alright, it had quite a few funny parts, a couple parts that made me want to barf, but I also noticed a lot of vidoes with rather bad quality and other amateur mistakes. While this was going on a
friend was competing in a hentai Iron Chef contest so I thought that I would stay behind and support him with that. To pass the time the audience was shown hentai AMVs that were quite disturbing most of the time. They're finally done and just have to export their videos and burn the on to disks. For some reason this takes forever. When all is said and done my friend had burned his DVD as a data disk instead of a video disk, at this point I just give up and go back to the hotel room, by this point it's about five in the morning. I just go to bed as soon as I get to the room. Flash-forward about seven hours and I am woken up at around noon despite the fact that I set my alarm so that I could get to the convention center at around ten, because of this I miss the Gurren Lagann screenings and the chance to ask Cartoon Network why they decided to put Code Geass on at five in the morning. I was kinda ticked off
so I just rushed over to the place and decided to go to the Travis Willingham panel, he was a pretty funny guy, I should've talked to him more when I was getting his autograph. After that was the Vic Mignogna panel, was pretty cool since he's one of the people who inspired me to become a voice actor, there were too many screaming fan-girls though, especially ones that would stand on their chairs directly in front of me. Some time during this I realized that I had forgotten my cell-phone and had no room key so now I had no way to get in the room and find someone who had a way to get into the room. After this I just did some more bull-shiting around in the dealer's room, I'll just buy my stuff tomorrow since they're going to want to clean out their inventory. I head over to one of the video rooms since that's where they're going to be showing the Ouran High School Host Club dub premiere. I actually make it with enough time to catch the last half-hour to forty-five minutes of the newest Bleach movie, it was pretty good and proved how much of a bad-ass Kenpachi really is. For the Ouran showing the place was packed, many screaming fan-girls but it was still annoying. I only really had enough time to stay for the first two episodes since the Code Geass panel was after an hour of the showing. It was pretty cool, I got to see the pizza ruining scene on a big screen with gain speakers in a room of a couple hundred people. During the Q&A part someone asked who was going to be playing Rolo in the English dub of R2. One of the guys actually called up someone and got the answer that was probably supposed to be kept under-wraps. It's Spike Spencer, just to let you know. That's really where to events I wanted to go to ended. I went back to the room and everyone was there wondering where the hell I had been, I explained the situation from earlier. We decided to do the commentary which for some reason took us forever to get ready so we decided that we actually wanted dinner first. For dinner, we headed over to the mall to just get stuff there, strangely, seeing people who weren't in costume (and only a few that were) was freaking the hell out
of me. We got back to the room and finally did the commentary that was actually pretty fun. After that we decided to just kind of sit around, watch anime, and trade files on our computers. Bruce invited everyone in the room to go to the rave they were having, Dan and myself were the only ones to go, it felt kind of awkward to be there but it wasn't that big of a deal. That was really the end of the day.

9/21/08
Today was the last day of the con, thusly it started with waking up and having to pack very quickly in order to get checked out in time. Then it was time to hit the dealers' room since they would be having some sales on the last day, unfortunately a lot of the shops had closed up the day before and where the cheap manga was they had already sold out of the stuff that I wanted, I still walked away with a new shirt and a bunch of manga. After getting packed and all that jazz we all headed down to the center to get the group photo before we would all depart. Down in the food court we all had the brilliant idea to get a picture of all of those who contributed to Blitz! doing a Last Supper pose with U.N.Owen as Jesus, it was pretty epic. After that I headed back to the dealers' room to see if I could get anything else I would want, I didn't. Although, on the way out I saw some guy who had just gotten tackled from trying to steal something, it was pretty funny. After that was supposed to be the Travis and Vic panel, but due to a mistake from some scheduler Travis had a flight he needed to catch before it started, bummer. Vic's second panel was pretty good I guess. At one point he was talking about how much fan-subs are hurting the industry, I hate to say it but he's right, when so many people are just stealing new shows as they come out nobody wins since then the anime production companies won't have the money to make new shows. It wasn't all depressing though, I got to hear him yell "THIS IS SPARTA!" in Ed's voice. There was a surprise autograph session after the panel but at that point I thought that it was time to hit the road. Me and Dan got in the car and mainly talked about Clannad and Gurren Lagann on the way back. I got back to his dorm somewhere around midnight and we said our goodbyes. All in all, with food, the hotel room, gas, the entrence pass, and merch this trip cost somewhere around $600, was it worth it? Oh yeah. Will I be going back next year? Definitely. Right now I'm at a rest stop in Pennsylvania and I need some sleep, here's to another good time next year.
