A Dive into Japanese Metal Bands

Introductions

Hi !!! My Name is Nia, in a terms of Metal Music i'm kinda Newbie, because before i knew the Genre, i'm mostly listening to EDM (Electronic Dance Music), so don't be too harsh for me on my first blog post lol, so in this blog i'm gonna show you some of my favorite Japanese Metal Bands.

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE

Uehara Futoshi (Ue-chan), Daisuke Tsuda (Daisuke-han), Nao Kawakita (Nao), & Ryo Kawakita (Maximum the Ryo-kun).

The first Band in this list is MAXIMUM THE HORMONE, some of you probably ever heard this band or even not. MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is formed in 1997 by Daisuke Tsuda (the singer/screamer), Key-yan (Guitarist), Sugi (Bassist), and Nao Kawakita (Drummer). but this lineup doesn't last long, because after releasing the first album A.S.A Crew in 1999 Sugi & Key-yan left the band for uknown reason. in January 1999 Nao Kawakita little brother Ryo Kawakita also joined the band as Co-vocalist and Guitarist, the main reason Nao invited Ryo to join is because Ryo had played Guitar and Vocal since Junior High School, and the last member of the band is Uehara Futoshi or Ue-chan he became permanent member in September 1999, after act as supporting bassist since Sugi left.

MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is often referred to as the Japanese System of the Down, because the many similliarity on the musical style, but even though their influence is System of the Down, their didn't do much political song, MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is the type of band that doesn't care about lyrics, why ? because most of their songs have meaningless lyrics, trust me, you're gonna agree with me after u finding some of their song lyrics on the internet, probaly their rule is we make songs for fun, fuck the lyrics.

Their career is not only in commercial songs, they even appeared several times in the Anime industry to perform Opening, Ending, & Insert Song. yeah many of you guys probably knew this Band because of this. The most notorius works they ever do is, Death Note OP 1 & ED 1 (What's up, people?! & Zetsubō Billy), Record of Ragnarok Season 1 OP (KAMIGAMI), Chainsaw Man ED 3 (Hawatari 2-oku Centi), & Dragon Ball Z Movie 15 Insert Song (F).

Personal Opinion :

The first time i heard this band on Death Note, i'm just like the others, i didn't like it even i hate this shit so i've to skipped all the rest of the OP & ED, but the more i heard the song over and over again, i started thinking that the song was a banger even though i wasn't into Metal music back then, ok since this i've only know 2 MAXIMUM THE HORMONE song, What's up, people?! & Zetsubou Billy, but in 2021 some Chainsaw Man AMV was popped up in my Instagram Explore, the AMV was about the Katana Devil Arc & Bomb Girl Arc, and the creator of this AMV is using one of MAXIMUM THE HORMONE song Tsume Tsume Tsume, after watching that AMV i'm started thinking, "Damn, I never knew they were this good". After this i started listening all of MAXIMUM THE HORMONE Discography and they became my all time favorite band, sadly they probably never go on tour to my country lol.

BABYMETAL

Momoko Okazaki (MOMOMETAL), Suzuka Nakamoto (SU-METAL), & Moa Kikuchi (MOAMETAL).

The Second Band in the list is BABYMETAL. i mean who doesn't know this Metal Idol group, even though you didn't listening to their song, some of you probably ever heard the name itself, yeah that BABYMETAL, the most famous Metal Idol in the Japanese music industry.

Formed in 2010 by music producer Key Kobayashi (KOBAMETAL), the original lineup on their debut is, Yui Mizuno (YUIMETAL), Suzuka Nakamoto (SU-METAL), & Moa Kikuchi (MOAMETAL). their unique musical style combining J-Idol, Heavy Metal, & J-Pop.

Since BABYMETAL combining J-Idol, Heavy Metal, & J-Pop into their music, there's no many growls or even scream in their music, so if you looking for some heavy ass growls or scream you're not gonna get it here haha, but some of their music is pretty hard too, for example, BxMxC, Maya, Megitsune, BABYMETAL DEATH, Rondo of Nightmare, and many more.

Even though with their big success, their get many hater from Metal Elitist, they said "This isn't Metal" or "BABYMETAL ruined metal music" but BABYMETAL didn't bother about this issue, even after the issue many musicians giving support to BABYMETAL, for example Rob Zombie, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Herman Li of Dragonforce (they even doing uncredited collaborations for song Road of Resistance & Tales of Destinies.
