HxH 99 vs 2011 and perfect way to watch HxH
Anime Relations: Hunter x Hunter, Hunter x Hunter (2011)

Running Part: 99. Hallucination Tree, skipped in 2011, learned more backstory from Leorio than what 2011 told us while they were running.
Mist Forest: Equal. Almost exactly identical except small details.
Food Part: 99. Sushi, skipped in 2011, a test to see how well they can find out information they have no clue about, not seen anywhere else on the exam in 2011.
Blimp Ride: 2011. Even though there was a part where there's a stowaway trying to kill Killua that 2011 skipped, this wasn't important to the story. And the competition with the chairman was poorly animated in 99.
Tower Part: Equal. 2011 slightly censored but much better animation and art.
Treasure Hunt(99 only): Bad part that only set up for the next part.
Boat Part(99 only): To see how well they pay attention to their surroundings while on a mission. And by their own choice, how well they work in a team. Good suspense.
Also explains more why Bow user and Bee user are together after the exam as shown in Chimera Ant.
Badge Part: 2011. Mostly equal, 99 shows more foreshadowing with the butterflies and the guy hunting Gon.
But 99 also has the absolutely painful part where you're just watching Gon groan for 15 minutes with a random flashback showing how cute he was as a kid. At most 2011 just dragged out the bird fishing part a bit from earlier.
And as usual 2011 has much better animation and art which makes it all feel a lot more serious than 99, hisoka just looking hilarious instead of intimidating most of the time for example.
Tournament: Equal. 99 has more content that doesn't just drag the tournament out, though it isn't mandatory, like showing the Kurapika vs Hisoka fight instead of just generalizing it in a flashback.
Though it could be seen as equal soley because of how fucking ugly Hisoka is in that one scene in 99.
First part of Gon vs Hanzo is better in 99 cause the art fits the scene a bit better but the 2nd part is much better in the 2011, visually and general feel.
Overall: 99 wins cause 2011 skips some very nice content and character building.

Killua Extraction: 2011. They are almost identical but 2011 is sort of a moderization of it which makes it seem less silly, with better animation and art to add on it.
Pre 200th floor: Equal. Almost perfectly identical story telling wise. 2011 with a sligt edge in the Nen learning part cause it has better visual effects but it's really minor.
200th floor: 2011. 99 has some "filler" fights that really doesn't do anything for the arc. There's some character building for Killua.
But it's really just the generic "live your own life" shit which Killua has already been preaching since we met him.
Hisoka vs the Tiger Palm guy is shown in a weird order in 99, feels a lot more fluent in 2011.
Transition into York New/Kurapika part: 99. The whale island part with Gon and Killua shows a bit of low Killua's view on life is, personally I think it's a bit too edgy but it's better than the 2011 version which is basically filler.
The Kurapika stuff gets the love it deserves in 99, showing proper motivation and progress in how Kurapika gets his powers. While 2011 just shows most of it as flashbacks and skips most of the reasoning and stuff.
Overall: Watch 2011 to the end of the arena then switch to 99 for transition into York New.

Bodyguard exam: Equal. The whole mole situation is way more obvious in 99, no mystery at all. But for once 99 actually has a better animated fight scene than 2011.
Marketplace: 2011. 99 is a bit dragged out because of the statue scene from 2011 being 3 parts in 99. And as usual 2011 just looks better art and animation wise.
Phantom Troupe Part: 2011. Pretty much identical content wise but 99 is filled with awkward animation and bad art. Uvo looks like a body builder who bought a $5 Wolverine costume, and just overall the Phantom Troupe looks worse in 99.
99 does have one thing on 2011 tho, the chain movement animation is amazingly well done in 99 but that's all it has on 2011. Other than that it's just your preference on which art you prefer I guess.
Though the post auction parts of York New are better done in 99, which would be the first 99 OVA. Improved the animation and art a lot, and gives more love to scenes like Hisoka vs Chrollo.

99 Greed Island is awful in every way, from awful audio to animation to art. No reason to watch it over 2011.

The movies are both anime original so watch them in whatever order you like, if you even want to bother watching them.
