JonGall's Blog

As the title implies, I am a man who just wants to absorb anything that has value to me. Any sort of show, opinion, views, or whatever. Now I don't want to sound pretentious or anything, but I believe I'm consuming the right kind of stuff for me, the kind of stuff that gives me something to think about, changes my opinion, alters my view and makes me feel the happy happy joy joy. Other than writing,(which I'm gonna get back into) that kind of stuff is really all I care about, just gaining as much info and wisdom as possible

I haven't been very dedicated to this blog/writing thing, but I'm gonna start fixing my shit and getting better at it. Best way to do that is to stay on my toes, and to start being an actual human who interacts with others and the sort. I put Humanity Has Declined in the related anime spot simply because it was the most recent thing that has been on my mind recently. Personally, I think its one of the greatest things I've ever seen, it fits my tastes perfectly now. I used to watch a lot of currently airing anime,(just about anything you know?) and eventually with time I was starting to lose interest, with time my tastes changed, I started to watch more of the "Involving stuff". Now here I am, I am no longer just watching anime for entertainment, my brain is now 100% tuned in to anything I watch(which isn't much nowadays, occasionally there would be something I'm interested in). I watch a lot less anime now, but anything I do watch is going to be something that occupies my mind until I find the next thing.

I try not to watch currently airing anime, one reason would simply be that I hate watching shit weekly, I'd much rather binge it or something. Secondly, most current anime sucks. I couldn't care less about most anime anyway, but every once in a while you find that one show that makes some sort of impact on you, leaves a mark as it were. That's what matters I believe.

You can't tell me that (on average) anime since... 2010 lets say, is generally better in quality. Some of my favorite things came out after 2010, but over saturation has done anime dirty. I mean really, are we really gonna talk about Shield Hero ever again once it ends? No, I REALLY doubt it. We don't talk about Bunny Girl Sempai anymore, do we?

So I just realized my reviews are barely reviews and more like little biographies, the Kino's Journey review I wrote, was not informative at all when it comes to the story or actual anime. I'm a bit saddened now, because really all I wanted was to give people reading insight on why I felt the way I did, but gave almost no reason why people should watch it other than me telling them to. I wasn't being informative enough, I'm reflecting this very moment, and really I just want people to know where I'm coming from so that they can relate or take something away from it all. At this point, I'm writing for myself, and it sucks coming to realize I'm actually a suck ass writer, all the more reason to put more effort in so I can Improve.

I won't change the style or personal element much, what I really need to change is my approach, more info, more effort, more me. Time to add actual information on top of my feelings.

Anime Relations: Top wo Nerae! Gunbuster
So old anime is just fuckin awesome. I'd say like most anime that came out before... 2010 or so, is by default better than anime today. But seriously though, I just watched the original Gunbuster, and god damn was it great, Giant robots is space, girls screaming with their tits out, the animation style back then god damn. So much effort and passion went into that shit its crazy. Dude the theme of time dilation was great for the science nerds, where is all that shit in current anime?

Personally I think people should chill out on current anime and start watching older stuff that they may be interested in, I don't know if I'm ready for another Mother's Basement video talking about how practically everything relevant is the new best thing. But hey I ain't talking shit, although it's not like anybody is reading this anyway.

So I thought Bunny Girl Senpai was like... not the second coming of Jesus like everybody else thought it was, but it ain't bad, just similar to Pet girl of Sakurasou in terms of enjoyment. I heard somewhere that it's "normie bait", but I am not well versed in what makes something "normie bait". The wack ass science was pretty not good too. Everybody is talking about how great the MC is, but I'm here thinking, "People only like him because he's not a pussy" and I mean it, everybody wishes they were that confident. I mean, I'm that confident, but nobody I know is talking about me like I'm a god. It's all wish fulfillment, he helps beautiful girls, he gets respect, boom. If only real life was like that.

Also Happy new year.

Anime Relations: Steins;Gate, Steins;Gate 0
So within the course of 2 days I have watched all 24 episodes of Steins Gate and Steins Gate 0, and in general I had a pretty good time with both, one more so than the other... but regardless. I'm mostly going to be talking about 0, and some things I would have added or changed or just removed entirely, because everything that I have to say about the original Steins Gate has already been said. Although sometimes it may sound like I fuckin hate 0, it doesn't, regardless of the way I write about it, I did really enjoy 0.

When I finished the original Steins Gate, I spent a little time thinking about what I liked about it, and the conclusion I came to was the chemistry between the main characters. Okabe, Mayu, Daru, and Kurisu all had great interactions and chemistry when put together, the lab was the centerpiece of it all. In Steins Gate 0 however, I feel like the lab is just this hang out party place, literally the first episode is every character (old and new) just having a damn party. I was like "What?", what happened to the atmosphere? The weird, dreamlike sky and the intrigue?

Kyouma is gone and Okabe is depressed, while Mayushi doesn't seem like Mayushi anymore (just a regular ass person when we all know she wasn't), and Daru is wearing fucking suspenders and sandals in the winter time!? Back to Kyouma, Okabe wouldn't just give up on him like that all because it was an act or some shit, it wasn't an act, Okabe IS Kyouma, he was always a bit delusional, he didn't be that way in front of just Mayushi, he was like that all the time, it was a coping mechanism, to paint it all as an act doesn't sit right with me. A better way to go about it would be that Okabe is afraid of Kyouma, everything that happened is kind of his fault, and Kyouma himself isn't exactly all there, and when Kyouma inevitably returns, instead of it all being like a "fuck yeah!" moment, it would be like an "oh shit!" moment.

Most of the new characters don't really contribute to the main plot, like, at all.
Also all the girls now have massive tits and it's distracting, when I saw Suzuha for the first time it blew my fucking mind, nobody changes that quickly in 6 months. But most of that is just nitpicking, back to the 6 months thing, you can't expect me to believe that Okabe, being the way he is, didn't once try to think about trying again? He kept saying "you can't change the past" when he already has like a thousand times, half of the original show was about changing the damn past! Also the future aspect of 0 I think should have been done differently, maybe not shown as much, or keep everything more subtle,

Ultimately, I enjoyed my time with Steins Gate and Steins Gate 0, both were good in my opinion. But like I said, 0 in general could've been handled a lot better, I don't know if it was poor source material or a poor adaptation, but regardless I still enjoyed it.
