New Favorite Couple
Anime Relations: Akame ga Kill!
Warning: The following contains spoilers regarding the latest chapter of Akame ga Kiru! Chapter 66 (posted on Jan. 4, 2016)
So after reading the latest chapter of Akame ga Kill, it has helped me realize my favorite couple I would like to ship. No, it's not Tatsumi and Mine or Tatsumi and Esdeath but Wave and Kurome. Let me give a little background to these two for those of you who have no idea who they are.
Wave is a former navy soldier who was selected by General Esdeath to join the group known as the Jaegers in order to hunt down and eliminate Night Raid. His teigu he wields, Grand Chariot, is considered the finished product of the prototype Incursio, wielded by Night Raid member Tatsumi. His goal, in life, was to hopefully be able to change the Empire but has come to realize his feelings for his comrade Kurome and has promised to dedicate his life for her.
Kurome is the younger sister of Night Raid member Akame, and she was a former assassin for a secret elite group that did most of the Empire's dirty work. Her teigu, Yatsufusa, allows her to bring the dead back to life if they were originally killed by her sword. Her dream was to kill her older sister in order to free her from the corrupted world they lived in but after Wave interrupted her fight with Akame, she decided to desert the Empire in order to become better for Wave.
Both Wave and Kurome were that one couple you could sort of tell they would become a couple but due to complications in the anime that dream never came true. However, with the manga expanding more on the last few episodes of the anime, it is shown that these two would fulfill the dreams many fans have been hoping for.
The events that really made me choose as my new favorite couple is the kiss they share before Kurome heads off to face off against her sister in a fight to death. After their kiss, Wave is then knocked unconscious but wakes up moments later in order to tail Kurome and stop her fight with Akame.
During Kurome's and Akame's fight, Wave stops them but soon faces off with Tatsumi with the both ending in a tie and Wave declares his love for Kurome, causing the later to become unsure if she should love him back or follow the Empire. Wave then destroys her teigu and picks her up to embrace her and says farewell to Akame and Tatsumi with the two promising to make it look like Wave and Kurome were killed in battle.
After reading the chapter, I could only wonder how the manga will end. Of course I wonder if Wave or Kurome will ever come back but that chance is very very low.
