Bartender meets Mawaru Penguindrum by way of Kurozuka

apparently the moral of the story is 'don't be a group of bishies who kidnap a loli who's actually twice the age she appears to be but forgot her own age, after dealing with dead women, the anime version of Eab, and a runaway subway cart that runs overground in downtown Tokyo, because some guy desperately impersonating Takehito Koyasu (named here Zero Station Tokyo) will betray you and try to Geass everyone into forgetting that they existed in order to solve a three-way time paradox otherwise reality itself will be destroyed'

Also it was all a government conspiracy
Also God might have been a small talking dog, they didn't really explain that
Also the MC was in fact a homeless guy in an empty train station resurrected as a train station due to time-compression loli
Also this all happens in the last two eps
Also ending implies the loli likes bumping uglies with trains

So all in all 7/10?????

Anime Relations: Toaru Kagaku no Railgun
UGHGUGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGHGGHH

NOPE

NO

NUH-UH

wow guys I had high hopes for a spark of quality in a spinoff about the most electrifying character, but you shot them down in a flash. I was shocked to see Misaka is just a horrible horrible static character; an obnoxious, precocious and stormingly overpowered little girl who understands nothing of the current world. I was revolted by her treatment of her seniors - heck, at least they amped up the development for those guys! The filler, at least, was insulated by being unconnected to the main plot - and unsurprisingly, those episodes conducted themselves far better.

I'd bolt it into a coffin, never to be seen again.

Anyway, were my puns good? I've been taking electrolocution lessons.

I still love him anyway

Best show I've dropped then picked up again by a pretty wide margin, I was lucky my opinions changed like a switch ga haittara.

Rating: Not fair, because the show's still incomplete (combustion)/10

Anime Relations: Dragon Crisis!
or should that be D'awwwwgon Crisis?

YES IT SHOULD

so I heard this show was shit but looks like y'all were wrong - I mean at first I enjoyed DEEN's radical battle-shonen reimagining of Usagi Drop in a 'oh I know it's bad but damn is it fun' way - call me an immoralist - then SUDDENLY that last arc hit and I was suki suki suki suki suki daisuki all the way; Japanese Indiana Jones showing up when they used the giant love beam to take out the dragon holding the jumbo jet just made it true love

Heck, for a filler ending it was great! Yeah a bit rushed, but all the MCs contributed, they wiped out the main villain in a fitting way and the 'THE END' was very definite and d'awww

Other AMAZING things - changing outfits! Seriously these were all really neat and helped liven up the magical-girl-holding-hands (so kitsch!) stock footage.
Eriko! Not only was she sorta Birdy, she brought the fanservice (and the adorable ED dance), but was also highly combat proficient with her magic butterfly attack stick. Heck this applied to most of the characters, everyone felt like they had a use even if they couldn't necessarily make giant burning swords of love.
Soundtrack! Obnoxious and somewhat generic maybe but totally fab throughout, and DEM OP AND ED

So yeah, looks like this is my new REIDEEN - the little show that could. Only unlike REIDEEN I didn't rage, I suki suki suki suki suki suki suki suki'd. I don't even mind a lack of S2!

I CANNOT STOP BECAUSE I LOVE THIS SHOW/10

Anime Relations: Yuru Yuri
EDIT NOTE: yeah this was a pretty violent torrent of hate. As a cute girls do cute things comedy it's honestly not awful, just the cheapness of the last episode kinda pissed me off. I wouldn't recommend it, but for what it is it's alright.

ANYWAY:

or - to give it its apparent full title 'Yuriyurararara Yuruyuri Daijiken', but the only big incident it caused me was a sudden desire to watch the MV to Ringo Shiina's Honnou again instead (see it's on topic because she founded Tokyo Jiken and Honnou had lesbians and YAKUSOKU WA IRANAI)

I mean seriously though if you call a show Yuru Yuri you think someone will be gay but if it wasn't for the almost entire lack of male influence on the plot - to a truly surreal level, I'm honestly surprised we even saw faceless males when they were in town - I'd call most of them straight, Kyoko bi and Chitose a weirdo. I'm not asking for a realistic drama about identifying with one's sexuality or BAAAAAW MY NAME IS YUKINO AND I WANT TO BE AN IDOL AND FIRST WE GONNA BAWWWW THEN WE GONNA D'AWWW THEN WE GONNA WHAAAAAAA LET IT GO LET IT GO

SETSU GONNA GIVE IT TO 'EM
SHE GON' GIVE IT TO 'EM

ugh I forgot how amazing Octave was, now I'm even more depressed

See, I'm cool with pandering if done right. Morishima Akiko is one of my favourite manga-ka, and she gets it. Yes, we want to see cute girls and have a laugh, and damn does Morishima deliver it - but at the same time there's always an emotional undercurrent and characters who you care about.

wait, no, she writes actual yuri and not 'Lucky Star with the best characters removed'

THAT BEING SAID I did really love TOSHINO KYOKOOOOOOOOOOO and the constant shouting of her name, and there's a genuinely brilliant streak of schadenfreude with poor old Akarin and the world's clear hatred of her. Heck, there was nearly the right kind of warmth/cuteness combo in the partnership between the teacher and the president to make it worth shipping but ehhhhhhhhhhhh

I really don't like this show, but it never truly made me want to strangle anyone like Ichizon did. Sure, I did get a couple of laughs, but the horrible everything else (except the animation? what's up with that, it was really nice) is just an incident of the worst kind

Rating:

It's a Mirakuru I didn't drop it/10

OH SNAP THE OTHER PROBLEM: it's a show so shit they had to advertise it solely on its' very weak yuri content

Lucky Star had more class, btw
