When I say 'traditions', I mean the common features or stereotypes frequently repeated in animes (or mangas) accordingly to the given genre.

For instance, throughout common Shounen animes, the typical protagonist would commonly be short with brown spiky hair, would commonly be annoyingly dense and/or defenceless during the beginning of that given anime, would yell out the name of a given move (or explain it) whenever fighting an opponent, and of the sort (the list is endless, but you get my point).

Or perhaps with Romance animes, the protagonist would commonly be a delinquent who sits at the second seat from the back on the left-most row in class, the setting would commonly be a school and therefore a form of festival would always be involved, and yada yada.

So, my question is that, what are your thoughts on these traditions? Do you believe that they are pointless? Do you think they are a set of rules that an anime follows? Do you think they can diminish an anime's view value? Or do you think they are what define an anime and the genres its associated to? Any thoughts would be appreciated, so please comment away ... I am just curious on what you think.
