Anime Relations: No Game No Life

Its been forever...I graduated from UC Davis with my BA! I'm happy with the direction my life is going and although I don't watch anime as much anymore I still love it and would love to get back into writing reviews.

Anime Relations: Kimetsu no Yaiba

So there is a big difference between good, bad, and overrated. Recently, one anime that I am enjoying a bunch is demon slayer, but I must say, it falls into the overrated category. Is is a visual masterpiece? Yes. Does it give me a wonderful story? Kinda. Does it have well thought out dialogue and fight scenes that go beyond the visual effects? No.
In fact, were it not for the visuals, demon slayer would feel a lot like a reverse Tokyo ghoul, and wouldn't really stand out.
Also, why does Nezuko still wear the muzzle if she isn't going to bite anyone??? Wouldn't her fangs be helpful in combat?
Iconic costume piece, yes, but c'mon it's not needed.

Anime Relations: Naruto, Soul Eater, Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen

So normally I only watch the subs of anime, just because I find the voice acting to be much better. I don't know why, but some of the V.A's for the English dubs just sound like they were given thirteen seconds to read the script, choose a voice and go. The other half of the English V. A's sound as if they were paid half of what they were owed so they gave up when doing their voice overs. That's not to trash any of the actors, I am sure that they are very talented and proven people, it just seems like the Japanese side is putting a bit more effort into it.
That being said though, I have encountered 4 dubs that I took quite a liking to: Soul Eater, Re:zero, Naruto, and most recently Love is War.

Love is war has a very diverse sounding dub cast, and one of the main draws is how they keep true to the original character but they are able to add their own little spark instead of just trying to copy the Japanese actors. One of my favorite character's voices is Isigami's. The Japanese actor gave him an edgy emo teen voice, but in the English dub they he speaks with an almost batman like growl, which fits his character perfectly as everything he says is supposed to be dead serious but way way way too dramatic.

I prefer subs, but dubs can be amazing if done right!

Anime Relations: Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen

Once again I am pressed for time. I'm trying to make this blog a daily thing, but I don't have a ton of time to sit down and think about what to write about.
So I guess today's blog is going to be a fast one about.....um....anyone else feel like they are beginning to have a basic understanding of some japanese from watching ep subbed? I mean obviously it's cringe to be like "I'M FLUENT ARIGATO" but I have noticed I'm picking up on more and more without reading the subs.
Funny how stuff like that works, huh?
Hopefully tomorrows blog is better.
