Darker Than Black's Finale
Anime Relations: Darker than Black: Kuro no Keiyakusha
yes...I am so annoyed with this ending that I'm actually gonna make a rant blog about it on MAL.
to be frank, it sucked...I tend dislike open ending endings in general, but this was just....beyond open ended, a good majority of the entire premise of the show was simply just not answered, and what ticks me off the most is the fact that they pissed away so many of the early episodes on side characters and stories that in the end amounted to nothing (not to say I didn't enjoy most of those episodes, I'm just annoyed that we had to trade off actual plot for those episodes)...instead of getting a clear look at the past incident with Heaven's gate, we got episodes about a private eye, instead of actually learning about contractors, a more detailed explanation of the gates and how the whole syndicate/contractor war originated and developed we got episodes about some mafia dude who ran away with a doll. And then of course there's Hei in general, just how is he a human and a contractor, how did Bai become him, just what the hell did he do in South America and then in Tokyo, how did Amber seem to know everything etc...etc...There's prolly a few good other things I'm missing from this poorly put together rant. Aside from being incredibly frustrating, that after watching 25 episodes, there was almost no payoff in the way of answers to questions I had been wondering about since episode 1, the ending in itself wasn't awful. The main gate conflict and the resolution to it was handled nicely, but as a series ending episodes....bleh. I can only hope season 2 actually explains some stuff to us, because it really is a shame not to see the DtB world fleshed out to its full potential...i was pretty intrigued by it
