Shipping the Unshippable
Anime Relations: Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu
Hello, this is the first of what I hope will be many blogs. I do not follow a specific schedule, so these will just be written when I have some free time and a good story. This first tale is why I am very sad with myself right now.
For a long time, I hated when people shipped, with serious intent, two characters who don't actually like each other. Someone would think that these characters used insults or violence to hide their true romance and roll with it; that's basically what a tsundere is, but this is a different matter. These ships include Shizaya, and ZoroxSanji. I still generally dislike these ships, but something has changed.
I just finished the "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumia", and I shipped Haruhi and Kyon.
They don't like each other. Haruhi is too bossy for romance, and Kyon hates that. Yet for some reason, I was rooting for their relationship from a very early stage in the series. I expected that the two would kiss or at least hug during the last episode, and was saddened when the series concluded with barely anything having changed.
I was so confused when I realized what this meant. I shipped the two kinds of characters that I normally hate to ship. I suppose, then, that I see why people like those pairings sometimes. If the characters could put aside their differences, then they could maybe get along. The world of shipping is a vast and peculiar place.
But Shizaya still sucks.
