Winter 2019 Predictions
Anime Relations: Endro~!
As of writing this, I have watched episode 1 of Shieldbro, episode 1 of Ueno-san and 2 episodes of Boogiepop.
9
Endro~! - Bright, cheerful, colourful, and fun are what this anime screams from the PV and Key Visual. The cast for this is fantastic, featuring notable seiyuu that I like including Minase Inori, Ozawa Ari, and Natsukawa Shiina. A Gokumi original CGDCT in a fantasy setting of all things too. I actually can't wait for this show to start airing as it seems right up my alley.
8
Watashi ni Tenshi ga Maiorita! - Another cute looking CGDCT comedy show that I'm highly looking forward to. Not really as much as Endro, but from the PV this looks pretty cute and funny too so looking forward to it
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari - I've already watched the first episode of this, but even if I hadn't this probably would've been estimated around here anyways since I have a few friends that read the manga/LN of this and have told me positive things about it. The first episode drew me in pretty quickly and before I knew it the first episode had already ended. Definitely looking forward to future episodes of this (and I'm pretty tempted to read ahead).
Yakusoku no Neverland - Another relatively well-regarded anime amongst people that I know, this is another anime that has been generating quite a bit of buzz and people say that if adapted correctly, will definitely be a really good show. Of course, only time will tell how the adaptation actually stands up to the manga, but I'm looking forward to it nonetheless.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen - As a big fan of the manga, I am hella excited for this adaptation. Of course, there is a chance that the adaptation will such, but if the short clip that was shown is anything to go by, I think they have done a relatively good job. Here's to hoping the rest of the anime is as good as the 1 clip they showed which had me grinning from ear to ear the whole time.
7
Boogiepop wa Warawanai (2019) - I never watched the original Boogiepop (and I don't plan to), but decided to give this a go anyways. From the first 2 episodes, it's been okay so far. The first episode was relatively slow and had a lot of talking whereas the 2nd episode was a lot faster, featuring tons of time hopping which kinda left me wondering where we were in time whenever the scene changed. Honestly, I can't say too much about this show right now, but it looks ok I guess?
Manaria Friends - Some gay girls from Rage of Bahamut getting their own spin-off anime. The trailer was basically just really pretty shots of the 2 girls and some mellow music. I have no idea what type of anime this will end up being, but I'm always down to watch 2 cute girls.
Kakegurui XX - Apparently I rated the first one a 7 so maybe this will be around the same? Not too sure, although 7 might honestly be too high for S1...
Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka - Dark Mahou Shoujo? Sign me up! Even if I have been relatively disappointed with most of them, this could end up being something I like.
6
Ueno-san wa Bukiyou - I actually enjoyed the first episode and thought it was pretty funny. However, the humour used in both skits were very similar and I can see it getting old pretty fast if they don't switch it up a bit so I'm being a bit conservative and giving it a predicted score of 6.
Gotoubun no Hanayome - I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. I will have no expectations. Looking forward to Nino being animated and being cute.
Girly Air Force - I saw cute girls in the Key Visual so I'm watching it. Honestly, doesn't look that bad, but the plot sounds pretty generic and nothing too special either. It doesn't look like a comedy-SoL type of show so it'll have to put it a bit more effort for me to enjoy it probably.
5
Circlet Princess -E-SPORTS ANIME. Yeah that sounded hilarious so I'm giving it a shot. Looks pretty shit though so even 5 might be a bit generous. Who knows though, it does feature hella girls.
Date a Live III - I really liked the first season of DAL. 2nd season was quite meh and felt really rushed. The characters were a lot less memorable in Season 2 so while I don't exactly know what DAL III will bring, I'm not too optimistic.
4
Domestic na Kanojo - I'm not actually sure why I'm watching this since these types of shows are shows I don't usually like. Looks pretty shit tbqh, but I know some people read it so I'll check it out I guess. 4 is probably being generous but we'll see.
Mini Toji - Looks cute. Cinderella Gekijous are pretty cute so I'm kinda expecting this to be kinda similar.
3
3D Kanojo - Real Kanojo - I didn't really like the first season and I kinda don't really want to watch the 2nd season. But being the type of person I am, I kinda feel like I have to see it through after I finished through the first season. Here's to hoping this season is better.

Fall 2018 Thoughts
Anime Relations: Yagate Kimi ni Naru
This season was kinda weird actually. There weren't really any shows I thought "Well, this show was pretty average" and it was all either "Wow this show just sucked ass" or "Wow this show was pretty enjoyable." There are a couple of shows that I'm pretty on the fence about as of writing this post, but I guess I'll get my initial thoughts out of the way and adjust them if I see necessary down the line. Also gonna add the point differential to see how well my predictions actually end up (which I haven't really been doing previously).
Yagate Kimi ni Naru [Estimated at a 9 so point difference of 0] - God, this anime was a pleasure to watch. Not only was this a very well done romance featuring a very interesting main couple, but the main couple (and a few other couples in this show) are yuri pairs (and I love yuri). From the adorable and cute scenes between the girls in the show to the somewhat hot and steamy scenes between our main couple, Yuu and Nanami, and even the slightly heart-wrenching scenes that accompany their unique relationship, I enjoyed basically every aspect of this show.
To start off with some of the things that I don't usually notice in anime (because I'm not usually looking out for them. These aspects definitely do add to the experience but I don't usually talk about them as they usually won't sway my opinion of a show enough.) The direction in this show is good enough that even I noticed certain techniques the director was using to help tell the stories of these characters. Most noticeably are scenes that will pan to a certain character's body part and there'll be a slight movement to indicate what the character is feeling to really get the point across rather than show it through the use of a monologue or dialogue (this is by no means the first anime to do so or anything, but it's just something I noticed that I thought was really nice).
This anime also *looked* very nice and had multiple shots with beautfiul scenery and backgrounds. I personally really like the generally soft and bright colours this anime tended to favour on many of its scenes giving it a very warm and relaxing feeling. The OST is fantastic and really added another layer to the emotionally powerful scenes present and really helped to further immerse the viewer (me) into the scene. On the note of the music for the show, I absolutely love the OP and the ED for this show. The OP is a really beautiful song and sung by someone I basically have never heard of before. The ED sung by our main couple is not only cute, but insanely catchy and I can't help but repeat it very often in my car.
Now the meat for why I liked this show as much as I did, is definitely in the characters. If you've read enough of my reviews, you'd probably be bored of me talking about characters over and over again, but really, characters are what make or break a show for me and character dramas are definitely my favourite types of show to watch. YagaKimi in particular is a very well-written romance-focused character drama. While I dislike using this word as praise due to its meaning being somewhat different for each person, Yuu is very "relatable" as a protagonist especially for me which made it that much easier for me to not only be invested in her character, but kind of to be able to put myself in her shoes. Nanami, while most people probably haven't gone through the exact same experience she has, can probably relate to her and wanting to live up to the expectations of others (I can definitely relate to that). Their relationship and how this ends up pushing both of them to grow as characters was such a pleasure to watch. While it was a shame that this season of YagaKimi didn't have enough time to fully realize certain character developments that anime was starting to develop, there is very clear progress not only in the development of Yuu and Nanami's relationship from the beginning to the end, but both characters have definitely grown a lot. Most noticeably (probably due to how the narrative is mainly through her) Yuu and her feelings that started change over was SO great and rewarding to watch as she slowly falls for (and realizes that she's falling for) Nanami.
While it's very easy for me to give SoL comedy CGDCT a 9 due how easy they are for me to enjoy, it's definitely much harder for a show like this to get 9s from me. When I add to the fact how much of the other stuff I enjoyed from this show (music, art, direction, characters, well-written drama that isn't overbearing or "melodramatic", and even voice acting) and the fact that it features cute girls kissing (!!!), it's really hard to not call this my anime of the season for Fall 2018. However, there is definitely 1 thing that I (and many other viewers probably) probably wish could've happened: Either a second season or if this had been planned for 2 cours form the beginning. While I know a lot of people were somewhat disappointed with where the anime ended (believe me, I'm on the same boat), I think it's unreasonable for them to rush the anime just so they can get to a certain point. If that had happened, while the ending would definitely be more satisfying, I feel like the ride itself would not be NEARLY as enjoyable as it is now as the pacing was terrific for the type of show it was imo. Also, while it was unfortunate that it ended before we probably got the big emotional payoff that the anime was building towards the end of its run, I thought the current ending we have was ***more than satisfying***. The last episode not only served as an insanely cute date episode, but it also showed just how much Yuu and her feelings have grown as we finally see her take the initiative in the relationship for once. Not only that, but it gave us a brief glimpse at the upcoming drama in what I was told to be an anime original scene. So while the ending wasn't as satisfying as it could've been, it definitely still satisfied me and the only unlucky thing is that this wasn't planned for a 2 cour as this might've been my 3rd 10/10 had it pulled off the play correctly.
8
Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai [Estimated at a 6 so point difference of 2] - Honestly, I was at a loss as to whether to rate this an 8 or a 9. When I finished watching the first arc, I was so impressed with how good it was, I had a feeling I would probably end up disappointed with the rest of the season as it wouldn't be able to reach the same emotional high the first arc was able to get me to. This was true for the most part, but the last arc came very close and definitely had some very touching scenes as well. However, while I do think the middle 2 arcs (Koga and Futaba) had their own strengths, they weren't nearly as satisfying or enjoyable for me as the first and last arc and this is probably why I decided to put this at an 8 instead of a 9.
Of course, as I was thinking how to write this out, I was kind of questioning myself as to why I enjoyed the first and last arc so much more than the middle 2 arcs. The best answer I could come up with is how emotionally involved Sakuta was in the those 2 arcs compared to the 3 I didn't enjoy as much. In the first arc, we see Sakuta struggle a lot with his own feelings as he desperately doesn't want to forget Mai, but fears that he will eventually forget her. In the last arc, we see how pained and powerless he feels when he feels like he could've done more for Kaede. These were the moments that hit me the hardest and something I felt that the middle 3 arcs lacked. Of course, how hard this anime hit me in the feels is not the only thing I loved about this show.
Sakurajima Mai. If you know anything about what I like in anime girls, you'll probably notice that I LOVE sharp-tongued and quick-witted girls (Senjougahara and Yukinoshita are probably mainstream examples that jump to mind) and Mai-senpai fully embraces those 2 traits. Not only is her banter with Sakuta insanely interesting and fun to listen to (and make me wish I could talk like that to someone), but when she shows her softer side, she becomes so cute I can feel my heart melt. The supporting cast is full of other cute girls as well including the cute and devilish kouhai Koga, big oppai Futaba, TWO flavours of Kaede: super sweet and adorable little sister that you must protect flavour, or the probably-more-realistic-too-old-to-be-reliant-on-your-onii-chan-but-still-loves-him-as-a-family-member-and-sounds-like-an-eroi-JK flavour. Makinohara Shouko, while only hinted at throughout the show and not fully explored as a character, is interesting and we can see she serves as an emotional support for Sakuta often in his time of need.
Moving on from the characters, the plot isn't too unique but it really fits what this show wants to do as the "puberty syndrome" that occurs throughout the show often forces our characters to face and overcome their biggest insecurities/issues. This also brings about a bigger, overarching question: what exactly IS puberty syndrome? The show often uses some quantum physics garbage to explain physically what happens, but honestly I don't think any viewer takes that seriously or cares about what causes it to happen physically. The pacing of the show was also relatively well done and while I heard they cut out some romantic scenes between Sakuta and Mai, I felt like most of the characters had ample time to develop and get the viewers attached to.
Did I mention, I want Mai-senpai to step on my face?
Goblin Slayer [Estimated at 8 so point difference of 0] - Probably the most controversial anime of 2018 due to the content of the first episode, Goblin Slayer definitely put a name out there for itself, embracing the phrase "no publicity is bad publicity." A darker take on the fantasy genre of anime, Goblin Slayer was not only one of the shows I looked forward to the most throughout the Fall 2018 season, but one of the shows I enjoyed the most too. Fantasy and action aren't 2 genres that are at the top of my favourites to watch, but Goblin Slayer managed to draw me in and in particular, the characterization of our protagonist was really well done. The world-building (which I think is a very important aspect of fantasy shows) was done pretty well in Goblin Slayer too, usually not dumping a whole bunch of information at us and choosing more often to show instead of tell. As I said earlier, Goblin Slayer is characterized in such a way that I got quite emotionally attached to him quite early on so that made a lot of the dramatic scenes involving him, very emotionally rewarding. The supporting cast, is by no means bad either, and the cast that he meets along the journey helps Goblin Slayer grow and develop as a character and as the viewer, you can clearly see how much Goblin Slayer has changed from episode 1 to episode 13. If you aren't too turned off by the idea of what happens in the first episode and think you would be interested in a darker take on the fantasy genre, Goblin Slayer is definitely a good show to watch.
Zombieland Saga [Estimated at 8 so point difference of 0] - After I heard about this at the live-preair, I was excited and wasn't sure exactly what to expect. However, I definitely didn't expect ZOMBIE IDOLS. While they stuck to many of the same formulas that other idol shows have used in the past (a goal for the group to have them idol-ing in the first place, individual episodes dedicated for a specific character's growth or development that also grows the group, and live scenes that use way too much 3DCG). Most characters got their fair share of development which is what I liked about this show, but due to the size and episode limitation, some characters got shafted (most noticeably, Yuugiri) which was somewhat disappointing. However, there are definitely hopes for another season as not only are the sales doing pretty well for this show, but a lot of things were hinted towards the end of the series in a way that while was still a satisfying conclusion would there be no more Zombieland Saga, it left some questions unanswered so that there would be material to work with if a 2nd season were to occur. Very few anime I know have balanced the 2 aspects so well and the ending of Zombieland Saga is definitely something I think it should be praised for. Not to mention, the last 2-episode-arc focusing on our protagonists issues and how she eventually overcomes them (along with a song that conveniently fits her situation) was quite a touching scene for me to watch and was a great emotional payout at the end of a very fun series. All in all, a solid series that was very enjoyable and somewhat unique. Let's not forget about that rap battle too that probably got a lot of people on the fence about watching this to jump on board.
7
Release the Spyce [Estimated at 8 so point differential of 1] - I was pretty on the fence about this and was strongly considering giving this an 8. My favourite pair and interactions definitely came from the Momo-Yuki pair. The episodes that focused on these 2 were superbly done and were easily episodes I could give an 8 or a 9 to in terms of how much I enjoyed it (yuri banzai). However, that's probably all that this anime had going for it (which is still a really big selling point for someone like me that very often watches an anime for 1 character), and the plot and other characters were somewhat lacking. While there was nothing terrible about the plot per se, it was relatively normal and nothing too special or interesting. The rest of the cast had around 1 episode of development so they tended to fall flat when compared to our main couple. The Momo x Shishou episodes really did make me want to push this up to an 8, but given how strong some of the other 8s and 9s are this season (which tended to be for a majority of the season rather than less than half the episodes), it was hard to justify putting this on the same tier as them. The ending while fitting, definitely did its number on me and while I personally really wished for another ending, I thought the current ending really fits their relationship. Yuki is also eroi prpr.
Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san [Estimated at 8 so point differential of 1] - Another anime of my favourite type: CGDCT with some comedy and boy did this show deliver a lot of cuteness. I'm actually a big fan of deformed chibi faces which this anime uses a lot which I actually loved. There are also many heart warming scenes that I absolutely adored (Akari getting sick, Ellie and Hinata getting upset at each other, Akari being worried about Sophie being hungry, just to name a few) and I really wanted to give this anime an 8. However, a lot of the comedy of this show fell relatively flat for me which is why it's at a 7 for me (Gabriel Dropout is an anime somewhat similar to this but the comedy used there is much more the type I tend to enjoy). However, that is not to say that the jokes this anime uses is bad or anything, moreso that it's just not the type of comedy to make me laugh out loud. The strength of this show is definitely in it's cute and heart-warming moments though and after a hard week's worth of work, watching some cute vampires do cute things is definitely a good way to relax and get you in the mood for the weekends. Did I mention that I love the OP and that I think it's super catchy? CHU CHU CHU~
Anima Yell [Estimated at 6 so point differential of 1] - An anime original about cheerleading. I don't know what I was expecting when I went into it, but I'm definitely glad I gave this a shot. It was a nice and comfy ride where I got to watch cute girls doing cute things (in this case, cheerleading). There was a bit of drama sprinkled here and there, but it was VERY light and palatable and easily solved, usually within 1 or 2 episodes. Sometimes, you just want a nice and relaxing anime to watch and Anima Yell! was definitely that for me every Sunday. Each of the characters also did grow in one way or another throughout the show which was also really nice to see. I will also admit now that this was looking like a 6 at the beginning, but as soon as I started growing closer to the characters (mainly Uki), all the episodes started becoming more endearing and I enjoyed watching their antics more and more. Uki is especially adorable when it comes to Kohane and their interactions were definitely some of my favourites of not only this show, but this season as a whole. The biggest question still remains unanswered though (and I'm afraid it'll probably never be answered): What does Arima's brother look like?
6
Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet [Estimated at 7 so point differential of 1] - Honestly, despite a score of 6, I relatively enjoyed this show. It's unfortunate that there were so many 7s this season since that's basically what pushed this down to a 6, but even then 6 is technically above average given that my average score hovers around a 5.8. While the premise of the show is nothing too unique, the shining star of this show for me is definitely our lead pair: Romio and Juliet. Throughout the show, the main pair actually go through meaningful development (this is actually rare in this type of show, what a shocker) as they learn about the hardships of having a relationship that's as unique as theirs and how to overcome the struggles that come with it. The supporting cast that's there to also help flesh out and develop the main pair (mainly Hasuki and Char) really add another dimension to it (especially with Hasuki who got a major focus in a few of the episodes). I do personally hate the fact that Hasuki lost on the first episode, but Juliet is super adorable too so I guess I can't complain. The anime also ends off at a very good point that not only leaves it possible for a second season, but will tempt anyone that is invested in the anime to start on the manga as well to find out what happens while still having a very satisfying climax.
Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru [Estimated at 7 so a point differential of 1] - With a pretty solid mix of comedy and some feels, UzaMaid was a pretty enjoyable watch this season. My biggest gripe with this show is probably the fact that it always remembers its a gag anime at some of the worst times. Mainly when there's a heart warming scene happening and our maid just has to pull out a boke making it SO CLOSE to being nice and heartwarming, only to ruin it. However, some of the comedy in this show did hit pretty well and got a few chuckles out of me. The final 2 episodes also finally broke away from my gripe (until the very end), and it was definitely nice to see Misha grow up throughout the 12 episodes we see of her. All-in-all, while I don't have too many complaints about this show and I was relatively entertained while watching it, this show really didn't do anything special to distinguish itself from many other shows like it (Not that a show really needs to do that to get higher than a 6 from me, but I didn't enjoy this show as much as my 7s either).
SSSS.Gridman [Estimated at 6 so point differential of 0] - So this anime is actually based off the old tokusatsu shows (which I never watched as a kid) so watching this wasn't as nostalgic for me as some other people that watched it. Honestly when I first started watching Gridman, I didn't really like it all and thought it was quite boring. It didn't really help its case with it's relatively repetitive monster of the week theme which really caused me to lose interest and watch with only half my attention (probably resulting in me missing hints to the deeper and slightly more interesting story and developments happening.) However, Rikka and Akane were pretty cute so I kept watching anyways, and I guess I'm kinda glad I did. As the anime drew near the end, it got ever slightly more interesting when the "real" plot of the show started to emerge. I don't want to give too much away, but the build-up to the final episode and especially the final episode itself were very well done. Had it not been as good as it was in the end, this probably would've ended up as a 3 or 4 from me and even now it's pretty much on the edge between a 6 and a 7 just due to how good the final episode was (however, I definitely enjoyed my 7s throughout the season more and while I might've liked the final episode more for Gridman, I can't really take away the fact that I was pretty bored for 3/4ths of this show). The voice dramas accompanying the anime were actually more enjoyable than the anime itself for me which speaks volumes. I do think the characters in this show are interesting, especially Akane and Rikka (for the obvious reasons and the fact that these 2 really grew throughout the show) and the pair really carried the show for me.

Irozuku Sekai no Ashita kara [I wasn't planning on watching this originally so no predicted rating] - What makes for an effective drama? For me, I think the most important thing to do is to get the audience invested into your characters that go through the drama. This can be done through a variety of methods and the reason I say that this is probably the biggest factor in how effective the drama is, is because if the audience doesn't care what happens to the characters, it doesn't really matter how well-written or what kind of drama the characters go through, the audience kind of just watches without feeling anything for the characters. This is basically what happened with Irozuku for me. Even by the end of the show, I really couldn't really care what happened to our main couple since I didn't feel that the anime did much to make them likable for me. The anime starts off us off with a closed off girl that doesn't like magic due to largely unknown reasons which isn't revealed until MUCH later in the series. Her personality was honestly quite a let-down at the beginning and since no reason was provided for why she was the way she was, I was largely unsympathetic towards her character for the most part of the show which LARGELY affected how effective the drama was for me later on. and don't get me wrong either, I don't even think it takes much for me to feel for characters. She can just be a cute girl (see Asagi in the same show), and I would probably be more sympathetic towards her situation.
While the ineffective drama was by and large the biggest factor as to why I didn't enjoy this show, there are definitely other problems with it. The pacing is kind of awkward and while I can see they were going for the tried and true path of drama (slice of life moments to make you like the characters and then drop some drama bombs to bring on the feels which is used very often, especially in VNs), I feel like the drama started slightly too abruptly and it all happened at once. The hints of the impending drama while there, were few and it felt like anime went from 0-100 in the span of an episode. Don't even get me started on the really stupid love triangle that felt completely forced. I'm not sure if it was because I wasn't paying attention, but I really didn't get any romantic feelings from Shou for Hitomi from the few interactions they had. It felt a lot more helpful senpai and kouhai that needed help and nothing really seemed to suggest otherwise. However, I could tell that the love triangle was forming from what the other characters were saying and doing (and from the somewhat obvious plot structure of this show). So when it did finally happened and he confessed, while I wasn't surprised since I saw it coming, it didn't really feel genuine to me and felt like it was drama meant to not only help Hitomi develop as a character and get her feelings sorted out, but to kind of give Asagi a push. The direction of that wasn't bad, just the execution was poorly handled. They could've easily added in some more scenes developing Shou and Hitomi as a possible romantic pair to make it feel more believable for me.
It's not all bad for this show, but in terms of the things I tend to care about and look for in shows this show failed horribly. The art for this show was very pretty and the OP and ED are beautiful. Asagi is pretty cute, and honestly, I was more invested in her as a character by the end of the series and I really wanted to see how her relationship with Shou panned out. Given that they weren't the main pair and the time constraint of the series though, it isn't surprising we didn't see how they ended up. Chigusa and Kurumi had a pretty interesting story hinted too, but that also never got fully developed and was only briefly touched upon throughout the anime. Yuito did get a bit of development as a character, but for a lead, not nearly as much as I would've liked. We never really saw why he was suddenly lost interest in art. Hitomi definitely changed as a character growing from insecure and closed up, to being much more open by the end of the series. However like I stated earlier, I honestly didn't care much for her by the end of the series so it was pretty whatever. Not really sure what it is with P.A. Works and their anime that involve drama and relationships, but I tend to not be a fan of them. It's a shame because P.A. Works does such a good work on their backgrounds and with how pretty their anime usually look so I'm almost always inclined to give them a go.
Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-hen [Estimated at 5 so point differential of 1] - Big titty ninjas doing random ass things and sometimes includes fighting is basically what this show is. A plot exists, but it's generic, predictable, and honestly, not very interesting. The cast more than doubles from the first season and due to not watching the OVA, I knew almost nothing about most of the new cast (except their names from when I re-rolled for some big titty ninjas in the Senran Kagura mobage). The characters are not very remarkable and I much enjoyed the character dynamics from the first season which had a lot more focus. I do like Yumi the most though and she gets quite the spotlight in this anime which is a big plus. Honestly, there isn't much else to talk about as if you're not watching this for some big titty ninjas, there really ain't another reason to watch this, so anything prepared to watch this should know exactly what they are getting and to their credit, they deliver (even with uncensored nipples if that's your thing).

Tokyo Ghoul:re Second Season [Estimated at 3 so point differential of 0] - What I said in my predictions was pretty spot on for the 2nd installment of Tokyo Ghoul:re. While the first season of :re was definitely more enjoyable than Root A, once I heard that the 2nd cour of :re would be even more rushed than the first season, I knew that only disaster awaited. However, I was already far enough into the franchise, so I might as well see how it would end, right? Well, it was basically a giant mess. Partially due to the anime version of Root A having a different ending than the manga (and the :re adaptation choosing to stay faithful to the manga) there were a lot of points I was confused in the 2nd cour (even more than 1st cour). They also started throwing characters out of nowhere at me that I really could care less about and some I had never even seen before and it seemed like the anime just expected me to know who they were. The characters for the most part fell pretty flat for me and characters that I thought were interesting and really deserved more development (like Arato and Amon) basically got nothing this season. They also do this thing where just as a character is going to die, they'll show you a 20s clip of them doing something that might make you sympathize with said character, but it kinda falls flat when not only do I barely remember the character from before but doing it so obviously when they are about to die just makes me roll my eyes. The ending and the message that this anime ultimately delivers is pretty weak and cliche as well and this kind of saddens me because I actually thought the first season of Tokyo Ghoul was pretty interesting and the dynamics of ghouls and humans were quite interesting to explore from Kaneki's point of view. However, the rushed adaptations that followed (with some completely veering off from the source material) just slowly degraded my interest in the characters and the series over time. The only saving grace is that Touka is still best girl and Hinami is pretty cute (which is probably why this is a 3. I do like it better than the 2s this season, but honestly not by that much and Touka and Hinami are definitely major factors for me).
Otona no Bouguya-san[didn't even know this was airing] - I was a bit more lenient cause it was a short, but yeah. Nothing really happens and it wasn't really interesting or fun to watch tbqh. The elf girl was kinda cute though.

Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai [Estimated at 4 so point differential of 2] - I don't think I've seen a more poorly animated show in recent memory. Add to this a plot that's so generic, I wouldn't be surprised that it was already done a million times, girls that literally have no personalities besides the fact that they all magically fall in love with the protagonist in one way or another, and a MC that's not only boring to watch, and you have a recipe for one of the worst anime of this season. I don't usually negatively judge a show due to bad animation (the animation quality usually doesn't affect my enjoyment of a show unless it's just that bad or just that good), but the characters were literally MELTING in this show so I couldn't help but notice. It might actually have worked in this show's favour though since I actually found some enjoyment in how out of proportion some of the characters were or how derpy they looked in certain frames. To just touch on how bad some of the cliches get and how stupid this show is, in the very first episode there's a supposedly SUPER popular girl at school that doesn't talk to anyone. However she's secretly a LIGHT NOVEL WRITER that is the BIGGEST FAN of the MC's "work" and suddenly she's all over him now. Maybe it's because I make it my life goal to watch all the generic LN harems that get adapted every season, but I've seen that happen so many times, I was rolling my eyes as soon as they talked about a popular girl at his school that had an actual character design. To other generic Light Novel adaptation's credits, I do usually enjoy some of their characters and some of them usually turn up to be slightly more than some popular character traits mashed together, however this anime fails completely in that regard for me, and even by the end of the show, the only character I even cared for about in the slightest was Suzuka. Given the title of the show, I guess it's pretty fitting that Suzuka is probably the one decent point about this show and probably the only reason this show is getting a 2 (that and I guess I didn't hate watching this show).
Conception [Estimated at 5 so a point differential of 3] - When I first started watching the Imouto show this season, I thought there was no way anything else this season could come close to being how bad it was. Boy, did Conception give Imouto a run for its money though. This show basically did nothing right (or maybe it just had no time to, I didn't play the game so I wouldn't know). Most of the maidens got an episode or less for their development which made all of them feel like nothing more than a cardboard cutout of tropes and character traits. Due to them spending almost all their time on said character development (which wasn't even effective largely due to the cast size and series length) the plot was laughably simple and not very interesting. Even the fanservice was pretty whatever and that's coming from a show called "Conception". I guess I didn't hate watching it which is why it didn't get a 1, but I woudn't say I liked watching it either. After a certain point, I just wanted to finish it since this was one of the lowest rated shows airing this season.

Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken [Estimated at 7 so point difference of 2] - I didn't exactly have the bar set too high for this show, but boy did this show exceed all expectations I had of it. TenSura is an amazingly fun anime watch and almost all the episodes so far have passed by feeling like they were only 5 minutes instead of 23. Outside of a select few characters, most of the characters in this show are nothing spectacular (although a lot of the more prominent characters are pretty quirky and interesting in their own ways), the big strength of this show is in its world building. As the viewer, we basically explore the world through the eyes of our protagonist, Rimuru and we learn things as it(?) learns new things about this world as well which makes for a really immersive experience. Not only that, Rimuru as a character is just a good guy that wants everyone to just get along and it wasn't before long, I really found myself cheering for him. While I did downplay the characters in TenSura a bit earlier, Shizu is a great character that not only is super cute but ultimately decides the direction of where the plot of this show heads towards. I'm looking forward to the 2nd cour of this and since I read ahead, I am pretty sure it will deliver.

Sword Art Online [Estimated at 7 so point difference of 0] - Another season of SAO, and if you don't include GGO, probably the most enjoyable season to date (Yuuki arc was still better, but the other arc in that season sucked). Don't get me wrong, there are still a plethora of things wrong with this show such as terribly done antagonists and fairly weak characters (although this season really only focuses on our 2 protagonists so its not as prominent this season when compared to others). That being said, it's usual strengths are also present as well with consistently good animation quality and very engaging fight scenes (which I don't really look for in anime anyways so they're usually not worth much to me). The world-building in Alicization so far has actually been really well done as well and is one of the aspects I am enjoying the most about this season of SAO. They also cranked up the funny this season and this shot alone made me laugh for a good 2 minutes. Hopefully, the rest of this season of SAO can keep it up.

Toaru Majutsu no Index [Estimated at 7 so point difference of 2] - I'm not sure what I was thinking when I guessed it would be a 7. Sure, the content covered might be more interesting, but I should've known bad things were coming when I heard they wanted to adapt like 10 volumes in 2 cours. This anime is a pretty rushed mess right now imo and I'm barely following along with what's happening. At this point, I'm just looking for more Misaka x Touma scenes (I still like Mikoto despite liking Misaki more) and as long as they deliver some scenes here and there, I don't think I'd give this lower than a 5. Lessar is pretty cute too from the 1 episode I've seen of her.

3
2
Total point differential: 17
Number of shows rated (that I guessed): 17

9
7
5

Fall 2018 Predictions
Anime Relations: Yagate Kimi ni Naru
Another season, more predictions/expectations. I haven't counted or anything, but it felt like I did pretty bad in Summer. Not sure if that's a good or a bad thing though...
This is published kinda late cause I was lazy but I'll be putting my thoughts from before I watched anything.
9
Yagate Kimi ni Naru - Probably the anime I am most excited about and what I predict to like the most. I've read a bit of the manga and there's hella yuri which is something I enjoy. I wasn't really far enough to delve into a lot of the drama but I hear it's actually well done (unlike Citrus) so I'm really looking forward to it. The visuals (at least background) were quite stunning from what I saw in the PV as well.
8
Goblin Slayer - A friend of mine has been strongly advocating for this anime and I tend to like similar things to him so I am guessing I'll like this a fair bit. From what I can tell and some information I saw online, it looks like a darker take on a fantasy anime. Not exactly sure how dark it gets, but even if it ends up not being as good as my friend made it out to be, at least the heroines in the key visual still look cute.
Release the Spyce - I enjoyed Princess Principal so I was pretty pumped when I heard about Release the Spyce. Not sure if this will be quite as serious as Princess Principal, but even if it wasn't, I'd be pretty down for some cute girls doing cute spy things. To add to my excitement is the fact that the character designer for this show is none other than the creator of Yuru Yuri, namori. She has some of the cutest designs ever, so it's very hard to see me not enjoying this one way or another.
Tonari no Kyuuketsuki-san - I probably would've expected less from this show had I not watched the PV. The PV made it seem like your standard CGDCT slice-of-life comedy with yuri elements which I basically unanimously enjoy (and rate an 8 by almost default). The vampire appears to be voiced by Gab from Gabriel Dropout (seems like a similar type of character too) which I also am digging. Might I add, the character designs are super adorable. Looks like my comfy and relaxation show for the season.
Zombieland Saga - Considering there is basically no information about this show, pretty hard to justify me expecting quite a bit from this show already. However, I did see a thread on reddit that said something about 96% positive viewership rating at the pre-airing of Zombieland Saga in Japan AND that everyone at the theatre promised to keep quiet about what happens. I see cute girls on the key visual so I'm kind of expecting maybe a Gakkou Gurashi kinda thing, but maybe that's just what they want us to think .
7
Kishuku Gakkou no Juliet - I have actually read a bit of the manga for this and I really liked what I read. Juliet is SUPER DUPER adorable and even though the setting may not be super unique and there are some cliches, I enjoyed what I read of it. and while I do still think Juliet is best girl (after about 20 chapters), the girls that get introduced later are all great in their own ways. Since my enjoyment for harem type shows is almost solely based on the female cast, I do predict that I will enjoy this adaptation as long as they don't completely butcher it.
Sword Art Online: Alicization - While I'm not the biggest fan of SAO, I don't really consider myself a SAO hater either. I actually really enjoyed the Yuuki arc and I've heard from lots of people online that Alicization is the best SAO arc etc etc. Thus, I'll go into this expecting good things and hopefully this adaptation doesn't disappoint.
Toaru Majutsu no Index III - Similar to SAO: Alicization, while I didn't dislike the previous Index seasons, I'm not really a fan either (I much prefer Railgun). However, I have read that season III should animate a much more entertaining arc in the Index novels so I'm looking forward to that. Probably no Misaki though so that sucks :<
Uchi no Maid ga Uzasugiru - Looks like some cute girl comedy show. The dynamic is nothing too new (lolicon female) but I can definitely see this being a fun watch. Visuals are pretty cute too so that's a plus. I didn't watch the PV for this though so not completely sure what to expect but 7 is a pretty safe estimate for cute girls with comedy.
Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken - Not too sure what to expect. The cover for the LN has a cute girl though and whenever a new chapter of this releases, the discussion threads on /r/manga end up relatively high up so can't be that bad right? Also I don't really hate isekais or anything like a lot of people seem to due to oversaturation or whatnot.
6
Anima Yell! - Cute girls so I'll definitely be checking this out. It's about cheerleading though and it seems kinda dank, but cute girls doing cute cheerleading things sounds like it's within my ballpark of interests.
Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai - I've read a few chapters of the manga for this and didn't seem too special or anything. The senpai is pretty eroi though and reminds me of a Yukinoshita/Senjougahara type character which I tend to like so at the very least, it has that going for it, right? Anyways, not expecting too much out of this but always glad to see that eroi senpai.
SSSS.Gridman - The Western fanbase seems to really like Trigger, but I'm honestly pretty whatever on them. Not that I think poorly of them, but I'm just not super hyped about their works or anything. That being said though, I'll usually try them out even if they might not exactly be my cup of tea (not the biggest mecha fan). Not exactly sure what to expect since apparently this is based on some really old anime/manga or something? #yolo
5
Senran Kagura Shinovi Master: Tokyo Youma-hen - Sequel except now it has my new best girl, Yumi (at least I think it does). Still, I don't really see it being that much better than S1 so I'll just guess around the same.
Conception - The synopsis for this sounded hella dank (impregnating cute girls wew) and there are cute girls on the key visual so consider me sold. The game was by Spike Chunsoft too which had some part in the Danganronpa series I think so it has that going for it too I guess.
4
Ore ga Suki nano wa Imouto dakedo Imouto ja Nai - Do you ever scroll down the list of seasonal anime and then you see that anime that looks like it'll be totally shit? Well this season for me, it was this show. The synopsis and key visual scream generic harem which is what I try my best to watch all of every season so I'm definitely in there. Basically I have no expectations for this though (at least, no good expectations).
3
Tokyo Ghoul:re 2nd Season - I heard they were going to animate like over 100 chapters in like 1 cour. Sounds like disaster in the making so yeah. It's a shame cause I think the setting for Re: is actually more interesting than the original series.
This is published kinda late cause I was lazy but I'll be putting my thoughts from before I watched anything.

Summer 2018 Thoughts
Anime Relations: Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu
Not sure how fast this will update due to death from school but I'll try to update as I finish shows.
8
Steins;Gate 0 - I came in with pretty high expectations and for the most part, I think they were met. However, the series still falls short a bit when compared to the original series in terms of my enjoyment. A big part of that is probably the serious lack of Kurisu (Kurisu/Okabe banter were some of my favourite moments and I love how their relationship ended up playing out) and although Maho was a great character, it just never really was the same. If this show did do anything though, I definitely like Mayuri a lot more as a character after 0. I felt like she got a lot more development and you get to see a lot more of her character this time around compared to the original Steins;Gate (I basically had no feelings whatsoever, positive or negative, at the end of the original Steins;Gate).
Asobi Asobase - I thought this would be just your standard CGDCT with some comedy but boy was that pretty off. While it is still kinda just girls doing random shit, a lot of the reaction faces are far from cute and the humour that is prevalent in this show is very different from the type of humour usually found in CGDCT shows. While the beginning was kind of jarring for me (due to expectations and what it actually was) as soon as I got accustomed to how scumbag a certain character is and how their interactions usually play out, I became a pretty big fan of the show. While I still didn't really enjoy the disgusting faces some of the characters in this show made, the fact that this show had me rolling over laughing multiple times throughout the season definitely made this one of my highlights of the week.
Boku no Hero Academia Season 3 - Probably the most enjoyable season of BokuHero for me although it was mainly due to the One for All vs All for One fight. Since I already discussed this in a previous post, I won't talk too much more about it. The latter half with the provisional license stuff wasn't nearly as entertaining as the big fight though and while it's not bad by any means, it is probably why this isn't a 9.
Harukana Receive - I LOVED this show at the beginning. Especially the episode where Haruka basically proposes to Kanata. Had the anime been more like that the whole way, I think I definitely would've given it a 9. However, the anime never did manage to recreate the magic of that episode for me so the slightly lower score, but I still immensely enjoyed this show nonetheless. Thicc and cute girls with some pretty nice volleyball along with some nice character growth for a some of the characters (mainly Kanata).
Grand Blue - I was told by multiple friends that read the manga that this was gonna be a good watch and they were pretty spot on. Tons of moments where I laughed out loud and the ridiculousness and how far some of these characters will go to fuck up someone else was actually hilarious. Add in best girl Chisa and I would probably have to say this is my anime of the season. I wish to be stepped on by Chisa.
Overlord III - Honestly, I don't have much to say for Overlord III. Another enjoyable season of watching Ainz be Ainz. Those 3D sheep thingys he summoned looked kinda dank though.
Gintama.: Shirogane no Tamashii-hen - Kouhan-sen - Another solid season of Gintama. Honestly, not much I can to say. The last episode was kind of anti-climactic, but it was definitely unique. Never really seen another anime do anything like that (I don't really want to give too much away).

Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu - Probably the biggest (positive) surprise for me this season. Part of it is probably me expecting completely nothing from this show though. Instead, I got (while nothing groundbreaking or anything) a pretty funny isekai romcom with uncensored fanservice. The highlights of the show are definitely the girls though. Despite not being super unique or super fleshed out, the entire cast was very likable for me, even the late comers such as Edelgard and Klem. Since how much I like the girls of a harem usually reflect how much I enjoyed the show itself, Isekai Maou was definitely a fun ride for me. I know a lot of people online harp on the beta protagonist shit a lot, but I think the way they portrayed how insecure he was outside of his Maou persona was a pretty neat touch. Also, everyone I know seems to either hate Rem and love Shera or hate Shera and love Rem. Why not just love both (or all)? <--- words of a kuso dd.
Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro - I'm not really sure what is with this season and comedies with friends being assholes to each other, but I am loving it. Despite Chio-chan sharing that type of humour with 2 other shows I enjoyed this season (Grand Blue! and Asobi Asobase), Chio-chan was probably the weakest of the 3 in terms of making me laugh. I'm not sure whether it was the nature of the jokes or just the girls weren't as cute, but I found myself laughing a lot less and not as hard during Chio-chan episodes compared to the other 2. This anime was still entertaining though and I definitely enjoyed Chio-chan and the rest of the quirky cast.
Hataraku Saibou - A show that is not only entertaining, but educational is definitely a plus for this show (although not that much of the material covered in this show would be useful to anyone not in a health profession). I think the biggest gripe I had with Hataraku Saibou was that it did start to feel a bit repetitive for me. It was always still fun to see how the body was reacting to everything that was happening and the fate of the cells that we ended up getting to know, but the constant problem of the week just left something to be desired for me. The last arc (2 episodes) was definitely really good and somewhat of a break from the usual routine and if it weren't for that (and maybe platelets) this could've very easily been a 6.
Shingeki no Kyojin S3 - Seems like the true heart of the SnK story is starting to be unveiled in this season of Shingeki. A lot of mysteries from past seasons are answered, but ends up raising other questions in its place. Historia is best girl now (with Mikasa still a close 2nd for me), the fight scenes for this show still look stunning, and the plot moving forward are all great things that happened in this season. Overall, I really don't have many complaints about this season of Shingeki and I think it's another solid addition to a franchise that's pretty loved by the community. However, Shingeki doesn't really do anything too different from the previous seasons (maybe besides toning down the action a bit to favour advancing the plot), and many of the same things I didn't like about Shingeki in the previous seasons, show up here as well such as a relatively weak cast of characters. Action also isn't my favourite type of anime and while it's not like I dock marks just because an anime is more action oriented, it usually does end up affecting how much I ultimately enjoy the show as a whole.

Jashin-chan Dropkick - Somewhat disappointed by this show although my expectations going into this show was pretty high. It remained pretty "meh" throughout the whole season and it was only getting some chuckles out of me every once in a while. It was nice seeing Jashin kinda grows a bit more softhearted throughout the series but the comedy just didn't hit home with me as often. Not to mention, in a season where I am comparing to comedies that make me laugh until I cry like Asobi Asobase and Grand Blue!, Jashin-chan Dropkick really did fall a bit short for me.
Yama no Susume Season 3 - Another season of relatively comfy climbing. There was some drama near the end that felt kinda awkward, but the resolution made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and it resolved relatively fast which is nice. Wasn't that much different from all the other seasons (as is my opinion on most sequels) so yeah, another similar score to previous seasons.
Hanebado - I had pretty high hopes for this anime, but the drama in the middle of the show really started to make me dislike the show. Personally, I think this could've been an easy 8 or 9 for me if it had just been more about power of friendship and hard work with some yuri while keeping the pretty exciting badminton matches in. While the middle was kind of weak for me, the beginning and the ending were pretty solid and are probably closer to around a 7 so I just decided to dock 1 point for the part in the middle I wasn't really enjoying. That and how some of the characters seem to switch personalities at the drop of a hat which kinda breaks my suspension of disbelief for a bit. Shiwahime cutest grill btw.
Sunohara-sou no Kanrinin-san - A pretty relaxing show with A LOT of /ss/. As someone who certainly doesn't mind /ss/, I guess this anime was relatively appealing to me. It was relatively bland and generic and didn't do anything too out there, but I thought that wasn't necessarily a bad thing. Just some a nice and relaxing show with some onee-sans and /ss/ isn't too bad after a day of work if you're into that sorta stuff.
Happy Sugar Life - Pink-haired yandere that is not only smart and cunning, but physically capable? I really liked Yuno back when I watched Mirai Nikki when I was but a wee young lad, thus I decided to watch this. While that's probably where the similarities end between the 2 shows, Happy Sugar Life was a pretty fun ride. I think it remained suspenseful when it had to and definitely had its moments. Characters not named Satou didn't get developed too much, but in a show like this, I think characterization isn't really as important. The plot while not terrible, left something to be desired. The conclusion was definitely an interesting one, but fit the theme of the show and all in all, I would say this anime was enjoyable. It was nothing ground-breaking or super special, but I don't really think it tried to be. If you're looking for some nice suspenseful, psychological horror/mystery, I think this does a much better job than a lot of its competitors out there. It even has cute girls to boot!
5
Akkun to Kanojo - Another romance where I like the side couple (Matsuo x Chiho) more than the main couple. Trying to squeeze meaningful development in a short and when you have multiple couples you want to show case is probably not that good of an idea. Not to mention when you have a super tsundere (probably purposely blown out of proportion) main male character, a lot of the interactions end up feeling kind of stale. While he does accomplish something at the very end that does resemble progression, it takes a whole 25 episodes whereas seeing how Chiho and Matsuo's chemistry was working out through the 7 or so episodes they got was much more interesting for me. Overall, it was pretty average and I might actually change this to a 4 depending on how some other shows end.
One Room Second Season - Honestly, I think I actually enjoyed the girls this time around more than first season. While Akkun to Kanojo had some episodes I enjoyed more, there were also episodes I enjoyed less. I enjoyed One Room around the same throughout hence the same score. I do try to be a bit more lenient as well for shorts.
Satsuriku no Tenshi - I was actually really enjoying this when it first aired. It kinda felt like a horror show done right. The mystery was pretty interesting and the I was pretty engaged in the show. However, the villains that started showing up basically felt like they added nothing to the story (I heard a lot of their backstories were cut) and I just gradually lost interest over time. Pretty sad that the show ended up the way it did, but oh well. At least Ray was pretty cute. There ARE still 4 more episodes though so maybe I'll change my score after that.
Cinderella Gekijou Season 3 - I like the Cinderella girls and seeing them in chibi forms doing some comedy skits is usually pretty entertaining. Nothing more, nothing less this show is pretty simple.
Persona 5: The Animation - I really had no expectations coming in since there was definitely no way they could do the story the game wanted to tell justice in 26 episodes. However, I almost always enjoy seeing anime adaptations of games that I've played so here I am sticking it out for 2 seasons to watch this. And I guess this was everything that I expected. Dank animation, lots of fun tid-bits cut out, rushed character development, etc. I didn't dislike it too much though and while I don't think the adaptation was very good, I enjoyed seeing the characters I spent so much time with in game, moving around in an anime adaptation.
4
Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria - I expected nothing and basically got exactly that. Most of the girls of his harem basically have little/no development whatsoever and outside of him being their savior (which I guess might actually be the only reason), it's hard to understand the motivations behind a lot of the female characters. At least, the designs for some of the girls were pretty cute. Also, I'm not too sure about that last episode. As much as I'm all for the childhood friend winning and everything, the ending just felt really rushed with and the conflict at the end kind of got brushed over with "he came back and saved the day" without even explicitly showing it. I also did somewhat enjoy the fact the main character used tactics to fight and explained how different tactics work (and usually why his tactics were superior), but I think some more time could've went into it (hopefully without too much talking. Or maybe show some fight scenes while talking. Or even some fanservice which is half the reason why I watch this anyways).
3
Sirius the Jeager - I actually don't know exactly why I started watching this. The plot didn't really seem that interesting and the key visuals didn't really have any cute girls in them. I think it was cause someone brought it up in one of the discord chats I was in and I decided to try it out. Pretty much a waste of time since the entire anime was a snoozefest for me. Not only was the plot pretty generic but the characters (especially the villains) were as bland as they come. Yuliy and to some extent the Professor had some pretty good moments, but the rest of the cast were basically static. Throw in some pretty nonsensical shit from the plot (mainly revolving around the Ark itself) and all I got was a pretty boring experience overall. I'm not really an expert on action scenes so Idk how well this show was considered on that aspect, but some fights were kinda interesting to watch so not as bad as some other shit I've watched. Ryouko is also best girl despite basically falling in love for not much reason at all. She is voiced by Rieri though.
2
Ongaku Shoujo - I like cute girls. I like idols. I like slice of life. Why is this show rated so lowly then when Ongaku Shoujo looks like another CGDCT to add to the plethora of shows that I already enjoy in the same vein? This is for a lot of reasons in the case with Ongaku Shoujo. Lets start off with what usually makes or break ANY CGDCT show: the characters. The cast has a gigantic 12 main girls and given that there were only 12 episodes, the anime basically couldn't even dedicate 1 episode's worth of time to develop each girl given that they also had a shitty plot to deal with. The show went with a pretty standard episodic character arc that basically brought up a problem with a character(s) and then through the episode, the viewer would get to learn about the character and the character (in theory) would grow in some way. However, all the characters in Ongaku Shoujo were so uninteresting (with the exception of maybe 1 girl) to me and even after all the characters had their turn in the spotlight, I just couldn't bring myself to care about any of them. None of the girls really got developed beyond the tropes or traits that they were shown with in the beginning (besides Uori) and as a result they made this show a snoozefest.
Moving on to the other stuff like the plot... which is nothing of note. The plot not being strong isn't necessarily a bad thing in this type of anime as shows of this genre as I said before, tend to be carried by the cast. With the plot and characters being utter trash, what did this anime have left? Maybe it had cool animations and pretty pictures! But nope, there were tons of dank shots and the animation was atrocious enough that even I noticed it was bad (hint: I know jack shit about good and bad animation). After finishing this series, I have come to the conclusion that there is basically nothing redeemable or worth watching this show for EXCEPT the fact that the girls were designed by QP:flapper and that the OP by Ogura Yui is pretty good. You can thank me later for saving you 276 minutes of your life by not watching this.
Back Street Girls: Gokudolls - This anime sounded super dank and I checked it out solely for that reason. What I got was... kinda that except everything was a powerpoint. The humour was pretty hit or miss for me and I didn't really laugh super hard to any of the jokes. Given the fact it was basically a powerpoint and when compared to some of the other comedies that I enjoyed a lot more (much like what happened with Jashin), it was pretty hard to justify giving this higher than a 2.
1
Shichisei no Subaru - There was quite a gap between whatever my last one was and Ousama Game so I definitely didn't expect myself to give another 1 so quickly. But boy oh boy, was this anime a hot steaming pile of stinky poo. As someone that tends to like watching shows a majority of the time for its characters, the fact that this show not only had some of THE MOST frustrating characters to watch, but also some of the least developed characters I've seen was already a bad sign. The plot sounded kind of alright (possibly even interesting) but the execution of everything was just done so terribly. I'm not sure if it was done better in the LN, but honestly the anime was so bad I really don't care even if it was more well done.
The game aspect is almost basically never explored in-depth and it just feels like they are in a fantasy world where game elements only matter when it matters for the plot (For example, a lot of the members take all kinds of damage but it is never shown at all how much damage they actually receive, yet when Haruto literally takes 1 bullet he almost dies? If it was meant to be realistic, getting shot through the heart sounds like instant death rather than slowly losing hp (Satsuki shouldn't even have had time for the time delay magic) whereas if we take it as a game balancing measure and he shouldn't be one shot, I'm surprised he basically lost that much HP from just 1 shot. The main character is basically just some Gary Stu that has not only some super OP power (to this day I'm not 100% sure what it does except asspull from another dimension his victories) but has some UNIQUE sword JUST FOR HIM that was randomly sitting at the bottom of the ocean for the longest time and literally no one in the history of this game ever thought to seek out the sword. Actually, I think they mentioned some people did but always failed but like come on. It really didn't take them much effort to get the sword so is everyone in the game just that bad? I'm almost half-inclined to believe this since he literally goes against thousands of members from supposedly TOP TIER guilds and easily massacres everyone despite not playing this game for like 6 years.
Don't even get me started on some of the relationship drama that happens in this show. I've always believed FORCED DRAMA was some meme term that everyone used to just describe drama they didn't like but boy did a lot of the drama here feel hella forced (to be fair, this is basically drama I don't like so maybe my belief is partially right anyways?). I'm not sure if it's just because I've never had any childhood friends I was that close to, but I find it really hard to believe that EVERYONE in this group despite basically not seeing each other for 6 years still held SUCH strong emotions for each other. Like not only was the misunderstanding pretty retarded, but the fact Nozomi goes full yandere when she hasn't even tried to approach him for 6 years is full of wtf? Maybe I could believe it if she was still going after him in the real world or something, but like what if he got a girlfriend in real life or something? Maybe the fact Satsuki invited her back to the game and then her seeing the misunderstanding lead to her fall to a yandere but honestly the show's writing is so bad it probably doesn't matter.
Now was there any redeeming quality about this show at all for me? I would say Satsuki and new Nozomi are kinda cute and I even liked Satsuki's character but everyone is so static (there is basically no character growth for anyone except Takanori) that by the end I basically only liked their designs. Yandere Nozomi is pretty eroi tbqh. Takanori also made the pretty smart choice in the end choosing the up and coming gravure model over a dead ship.
All in all, I regret ever watching this show and I hope no one suffers the same fate I had to. The most satisfying moment I got from watching this show was writing this shitty rant and giving it a 1 on myanimelist. What a good fucking use of 288 minutes + the 5 or some minutes it took me to write this rant.
I also said at the beginning of this Subaru review that it was a while since my last 1, however, I think ImoImo from this season might be a 1 as well (Fall 2018). However, at least I don't really actively dislike watching that show (and Ousama Game for that matter) since both of those were kind of in the "It's so bad it's kinda funny" sorta boat. Not only was Subaru actually frustrating for me to watch but it belonged in the "It's so bad but it isn't funny and it's just trash" sorta show. I wonder when the characters in ImoImo will start melting.

Summer 2018 Predictions
Anime Relations: Harukana Receive
Estimated Summer 2018 Rankings
Since I did pretty well in Spring 2018 guessing how well I’d like shows, time for another edition and see if I can do even better. These were also done before the season started but since MAL died, I couldn't post it until now.
9
Harukana Receive – Probably the show I’m most excited for this season. Cute girls, thicc girls, volleyball, girls getting along with other girls are all signs pointing towards me enjoying this show. Can’t see me not enjoying this, but whether it’ll be a 9 or not, I’ll have to see. Definitely high expectations for this though.
8
Grand Blue – I’ve only heard good things about the manga form of this from people that I know and from multiple online communities that seems to be the general consensus as well. That being said, I’m aware of a lot of manga adaptations not quite living up to the original manga, but I’d like to give this the benefit of the doubt. Have high hopes for this show!
Gintama – As usual with sequels, I don’t really see this being that much better or worse than the previous seasons so just estimating that the score will be around the same as the previous seasons.
Jashin-chan Dropkick – The premise sounds hilarious and the girls on the key visual are cute. Cute girls with slapstick comedy (which I enjoy) is something I usually enjoy so I think I’ll be liking this a lot.
Hanebado! – Watched the first episode already and it’s off to a solid start. Quite serious with a pretty heavy atmosphere, it’ll be interesting to see where they go with the show given how the 2 protagonists seem to be opposites and seem to have very different reasons for playing the sport. The animation is spectacular as of the first episode and I’m really looking forward to this. Could easily see this as a 9 depending on how they handle the drama and the characters.
7
Overlord III – Third season of Overlord. No idea what happens but I don’t really see this being that much better or worse than the previous 2 seasons. Solid series so far so no reason for me to believe it’ll do worse.
Shingeki no Kyojin Season 3 – Pretty much the same as Overlord III. I don’t think I’ll enjoy this too much more or much less than the previous seasons so score will probably be the same as the past seasons.
Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro – Already watched the episode as of writing this and first episode was pretty funny. Nothing too special, dank premise, and quite a bit of laughs 1 episode in. Looking forward to more.
Happy Sugar Life – Feels like it’s actually been a while since I last watched a show with a yandere just straight up killing people. Yandere looks cute too and from the synopsis, the premise does sound interesting enough for me so I’m somewhat looking forward to seeing where this is going to go.
Asobi Asobase – Cute girls doing cute things? I’m actually not completely sure after watching the PV. Still, I usually don’t miss a chance to check out this sort of show so I’ll check it out for sure. 7 since that’s the rating I usually give “average” CGDCT shows.
Hataraku Saibou – Osmosis Jones: Anime Edition featuring Hanazawa Kana is what I thought of at first when I saw the trailer for this during the Anime Expo stream. Looks interesting enough that I thought I should give this show a chance.
6
Satsuriku no Tenshi – I have no idea actually about this. A lot of people seemed to be excited about it and the trailer is pretty interesting but I’ll be a bit more apprehensive about this for my predictions.
Back Street Girls: Gokudolls – Premise sounds really dank so gonna give this a shot. Not really expecting anything from this though, so 6 is pretty generous estimate. But Premise sounds interesting enough.
Yama no Susume 3rd Season – Sequel.
Ongaku Shoujo – Cute girls but doesn’t look too promising (just from the key visual since I haven’t actually watched the PV yet. Girls look adorable though so while I’m not too sure what to expect, at least there will be cute girls.
5
Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu – As far as fantasy harems (or at least what appears to be one) are concerned, this one is supposed to be pretty lewd and I’ve heard the MC puts up an act a lot which sounds like some comedic moments would ensue as a result. Anyways, not expecting too much, but 1 point above the “average harem” line for comedy and cute girls is probably where I see this at.
Yuuragi-sou no Yuuna-san – I’ve seen the manga discussed quite a bit on various forums so while I’m not expecting this to be groundbreaking or anything, seems like it’ll be another fanservice harem with cute girls. 5 is basically the default as long as there’s a girl I actually end up liking in it (and it’s not too terrible. Being generic is pretty much expected) so 5 it goes.
Sunoharasou no Kanrinin-san – Some thicc landlord and that’s basically all I know about this. Don’t think it’ll be anything too special, probably just a nice relaxing show with some clichés here and there. And thicc landlord.
One Room 2nd Season – Same as most sequels, don’t see this being much better or worse.
Shoujo Kageki Revue Starlight – Idols and cute girls. Definitely giving this a shot but not too optimistic about it yet.
Cinderella Girls Gekijou 3rd Season – Sequel so yeah not much else to say.
Sirius – No cute girls on the key visual, but giving this a try. Not expecting anything too much really.
Sirius - Looks like a pretty standard action anime. I have no idea why I'm watching it, but #yolo.
Island - Cute girls on the cover poster. Not much else to say since I don't really know much about it.
4
Shichisei no Subaru – Some dank looking Isekai show. Not expecting anything really from this but trying it because I love trash.
Hyakuren no Haou to Seiyaku no Valkyria – Basically same thing as Shichisei except the key visual suggests it’s more of a harem-oriented Isekai. If there’s a harem, I’ll probably watch it. Kek.
High Score Girl – The designs don’t really appeal to me and the PV had some extensive CG usage that while wasn’t too bad, I’m pretty ‘eh’ about. I heard some things about this manga though so thought I’d check it out. Expecting it to be not that good though.
