Anime Relations: Toradora!, Bakemonogatari
Happy New Year!! Yes, this is not my first blog post of the year, but whatever. After doing my 2018 New Year’s Hobby Resolutions post, I figured that I might as well make this a yearly thing! Strangely enough, my 2019 New Year’s Eve was very similar to the one from 2018: “apathy paired being kind of sick, resulting in me staying in for New Year’s Eve and being in bed by 10pm.” Yep, pretty much the same thing this year! Oh well. Maybe I’ll do something cool for 2020 since it’s such a nice number. ^_^

So anyway, I’ll go ahead and get into my Resolutions for this year, with a few typical general type resolutions before I get into the fun stuff....

Body Health and Weight Stuff: I’ll go ahead and come out and say it; I want to get healthier and shed some more pounds over this year. After becoming vegan nearly 2 years ago, I’ve lost about 80 lbs, currently hovering around 230 lbs. Not an absolutely horrible weight for a 6’2” guy in his mid-30s, but there is definitely still room for improvement. I’d like to get down to at least the 200 lb. mark by the end of this year and also get a bit more active, working out with David more and walking and such.

Money Stuff: I was able to pay off my car last year, which was cool. For 2019, I’ll be shooting to pay off both my stupid student load and my credit card (about $7K of debt) while also starting to build up some savings for emergencies as well as an eventual down payment for my dream car: The Honda Odyssey. Yes, I really like vans. ^_^ With my car paid off at the moment, I usually have a good amount of extra money each month and I plan to put all of my tax return this year into paying things off. Hopefully it’s a pretty good one with those fat Trump tax cuts!! XD (not actually very hopeful there, but who knows)

Social Stuff: This is kind of a “bridge” Resolution to transition from my “normal” kind of stuff to the fun hobby things. I’d just like to get out and interact with people more. It would be especially nice if I could find myself a new girlfriend, but there don’t typically seem to be that many prospects in my area, especially those that share my interests. The best thing to do would be for me to become a more regular customer at my local tabletop game store, but too often laziness seems to prevail. I don’t know what kind of concrete goals I’d like to actually put here, but it’d be nice to at least be comfortable there and maybe even get to the point where I might be able to run an anime club screening there. That’d be cool!

Play All of the Board Games on my Shelf: Speaking of tabletop gaming, this is a carryover from my last list and it’s My #1 Resolution of the Year! To be very specific, I want to play every single un-played board game that is currently on my shelf by the end of the year and always play any newly acquired games within 2 months of getting them. Aside from keeping a list of my un-played games, I’ll also be prioritizing things this year to have a good plan of attack since this resolution was a bit of a miserable failure in 2018. XD I’ll be trying to help David get all (or most) of his un-played games knocked out as well, so this is definitely a rather HUGE task, especially with everything else going on and needing to coordinate with David and/or other people in order to play most of these. But I’m hopeful and will be trying my best!!

Complete the Manga Reading Challenge at Intermediate Difficulty or Better: While I’ve enjoyed doing the Anime Watching Challenge in the previous two years, I’m having that take a backseat to the Manga Reading Challenge this time around. I might still sign up for the Anime Watching Challenge at some point, but it will not be my main focus. I’ve been slacking a lot in my manga reading in recent years and I think doing this Challenge will help me get back on track. I’ll be shooting for at least the Intermediate Difficulty which means I will need to read a minimum of 45 manga. I’d like to see if I can possibly do a full Expert run, but I’m unsure if I can do the 65 required items for that. We’ll see though! As part of this resolution, I’ll also be reading all un-read manga on my shelf. It will pretty much be intertwined with the Manga Reading Challenge as I’m working all of my un-read manga into the Challenge items. Should be fun! Here’s My Manga Reading Challenge Entry.

Trim Down My “Watching” and “On Hold” Anime: For real this time! While I really enjoy watching new stuff and there are a BUNCH of things from 2018 that I’m interested in checking out, I really need to knock out the things that are in my “Watching” and “On Hold” categories on MAL. As a very concrete goal, I want my Watching list to only include stuff that I’m truly actively WATCHING by the end of the year. As for my On Hold anime, it’s currently only sitting at 72 items, so let’s say that I’d like to at least cut my On Hold anime by half (down to 36 items or fewer) by the end of the year. Sound good?

Read (listen to) More Books: So a near carbon copy of last year’s resolution. I did alright with this last year, but I think I only listened to 5 audiobooks and didn’t fully read a single book in the tradition fashion. Time for concrete goals! So I’d like this to be the year that I FINALLY finish reading the Toradora! light novel series. I’d like to at least finish Monogatari Series: First Season. After enjoying the audiobook for Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World so much last year, I’d like to listen to at least one more Murakami book this year. And I’d like to read/listen to at least one H. P. Lovecraft story, preferably at least The Call of Cthulhu. If I manage these things, I’ll definitely exceed the 5 books that I listened to last year. Here’s to hoping!

Paint More Game Minis and Get Better: And I’ll end with a 100% NEW Resolution! So last year I did some of my first ever painting of tabletop game miniatures. My roommate Dan was running a short-lived painting class at our game store and got me started from there. So far, I’ve only painted 3 minis and of them I think only one is what I would really call “finished” for the most part. I’d like to do more painting. As one of the minis that I painted was for my game Thunderstone Quest, I’d like to make this goal concrete by saying that I want to at least finish that mini and paint all of the other 4 or 5 minis from the game. It’d be nice to do even more, but we’ll see!

And that’s it! Hopefully this will be manageable and I’m able to have a good and productive year! Until next time! ^_^
