Anime Relations: Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, Natsume Yuujinchou, Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!, Kubikiri Cycle: Aoiro Savant to Zaregotozukai
With 34 more episodes of anime watched and three more items on my list finished this week, I continue to make good progress on the Challenge. I actually ended up giving everything that I finished this week a 9 score. As I’ve said in my profile, I might be a little easy on my scoring, but whatever. I like a lot of things! Don’t really have much else to say about this week, so on to the list status....

-Another
-Boku dake ga Inai Machi (ERASED)
-Boku no Hero Academia (My Hero Academia)
-Bungou Stray Dogs
-Date A Live
-Death Parade
-Flip Flappers

-Gabriel DropOut - Watching:
So Tapris still hasn’t made her return to the show yet in this week’s episode, but we did get a little bit of an interesting concept of Gabriel and Vignette getting their living money cut because they don’t act correctly; Gabriel is an angel who doesn’t do good deeds while Vignette is a devil who doesn’t do bad deeds. Vignette takes center stage as we only see her trying her best to be bad while Gab is just as lazy as usual. It was amusing and at times really cute, but mostly standard-level stuff for this series.

-Kimi ga Nozomu Eien - Completed:
I used this series to fulfill item 73 of my challenge, to finish an anime that I had on-hold. This was a rather weird show to pick back up because I watched the first five episodes about 8+ years ago when I bought the DVD set (the first disc in the set) and I hadn’t touched it since then. Yeah, so I generally knew what had happened in the first five episodes, but it was still weird to pick it up from there. Thankfully, in episode 12 out of 14 there was a quick flashback of clips of everything that had happened up to that point, so that was nice to remind me of some of the things that went on right before the climax. And I have to say, the ending was rather great! Watching the show again at first was a bit hard to get into. It moved at a really slow soap-opera pace with very little going on in each episode. But I rather enjoyed the ending and the series as a whole when all was said and done; it all came together really well. I don’t know for sure if it would make it into my Top 100 or not, but I did go ahead and give it a 9, so it’s possible. I’ll have to let it sink in to know for sure if it makes the cut.

-Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo! (KonoSuba) - Completed: This is a series that has been talked about a lot as one of the best comedies of last year. I watched all ten episodes of the first season in one day, watching it to fit item 29 as an anime adapted from a light novel series. Yeah, I had a lot of options that could have filled this one. But KonoSuba is a fantasy comedy, so it felt pretty much right up my alley. In the end, yes, it was a pretty fun show. I ended up giving it a 9, but like a number of other things I’ve watched for this challenge so far, I’m not quite sure where it will fall in my Top 100. As with Rakugo, I’ll probably have to wait until I watch the second season to really know for sure. More stuff to watch after I’m done with my challenge stuff! Anyway, this was a fun and funny show with nice characters. I don’t really have much else to say about it beyond that....

-Kubikiri Cycle: Aoiro Savant to Zaregototsukai - Watching: This is the last item on my list that is “currently airing” in Japan. I used it to fulfill one of the easier conditions in the challenge, item 71, to watch an anime that has a main character with an unnatural hair color. I suppose that’s actually a little less common with more recent anime as many creators don’t seem to use the old “different color hair” trick to differentiate characters anymore. One of the main reasons I picked this show to fulfill this item is because Tomo Kunagisa’s blue hair is actually canon. Most shows just have crazy hair colors for their characters and never mention them, acting like the color is perfectly normal. I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen a series actually acknowledge a weird hair color like this. Aside from that, I’ve been looking forward to this show since I’m a big NISIOISIN fan. I’ve only watched the first episode so far because it’s an OVA that usually comes out with one episode per month and I don’t want to run out of stuff too fast. Four of the eight planned episodes are out so far with the final episode due out 28 June. Anyway, as far as the actual episode goes, it was a bit harder to follow than most of NISIOISIN shows since instead of focusing on a single one-on-one conversation for most of the episode, the main character talks to I think five different people throughout the episode. It seems like it can be a nice show, though. I look forward to watching more.

-Little Witch Academia - Watching: In episode 7 Akko continues to be the poor, bumbling student with heart. This episode was funny and heartwarming with some more nice student-teacher bonding between Akko and Ursula-sensei. The series continues to be a pleasure to watch every week.

-Love Live! School Idol Project

-Natsume Yuujinchou (Natsume's Book of Friends) - Completed:
So here’s a series that I’ve heard good things about for many years but am only now giving it a shot with it satisfying item 31 in the challenge, watching an anime adapted from a manga with an average score of 8.0 or more. As I began watching, the first thing that stood out to me is Natsume’s voice as I was pretty sure that it was Hiroshi Kamiya just by ear and I confirmed it to be so after watching the first episode. Funny enough, since the anime is mostly centered around the main character dealing with supernatural beings, this made me think of Natsume as the shoujo version of the Monogatari Series (as Hiroshi Kamiya also voices Araragi). Fun stuff, although I was a little sad at the lack of Natsume/Monogatari crossover fanart that I could find on the internet. Oh well. Anyway, I liked this first season rather well! For the most part it was a nice, clam, touching series with interesting stories and characters. Like all of the other stuff that I finished this week, I gave it a 9, but don’t know where it will fit in my Top 100 (if it makes the cut). But with season 6 coming out during the next anime airing season, I’ll have plenty more to watch before I make my decision! And yes, I feel that it is definitely worth watching more, especially when I just feel like chilling out. Good stuff!
