Anime Relations: Hametsu no Mars, Sword Art Online
Hello, if you ever see this blog post, I'm sorry, it might not suit you for it is my opinion. However, this kind of guide in rating anything in a 10-point scale would be great, in helping other people to find quality, and to have justified acclaim on every aspect of work.

Why rate and what is to rate?

-- Rating things is tantamount to criticism. We criticize our experiences on that thing. And of course, we should have criteria. To have a decent criteria I suggest to have five aspects on judging the quality, that is: Story, Characters, Enjoyment, Art, and Direction/Execution.

Yes, it may be daunting and hard to scrutinize every thing we experienced. But in order to have a good and justified rating, it is essential. People who rate things just from their enjoyment will often disappoint some, because their judgments are unjustified and ridiculously subjective. Let's be relative to others and help them with our best objectivity.

How to rate?

there are 10 points to account: 1-10. You can easily follow MAL's system (5 for average/mediocre, 10 for masterpiece) because it is the standard system. I also follow that system on a certain degree.

7 is good and acceptable. 6 is fine and acceptable. 4 is bad and unacceptable. That's easy, folks. So giving something a 6 is still acceptable to watch. 5 is neither acceptable nor unacceptable. That's why it's mediocre. I have no opinions about it because it's plain average.

In fact, you only have 3 aspects in rating: acceptable, unacceptable, and mediocre. Rating X with 7 is the same as rating Y with 10. It's still acceptable to watch. What only matters is Y is better than X.

So I hope it could help you rating things in a 10-point scale.

tl;dr - Don't care if you rate 1 or 4 -- it means unacceptable! same as 6-10 which is acceptable. All you need to do is to exert some of your brain cells and judge those titles on where you will put the title within the 6-10 range and in the 1-4

I've updated my rating system, for convenience.
10 - Favorites, change over time
9 - Best
7 - Good
5 - Mediocre
3 - Bad
1 - Worst

It's still the same with my rating logic, the point is to discriminate the titles in three categories: The good, the mediocre, and the bad ones.

The community is somewhat afraid to give below 5 scores. I think this post is very fair relative to the grade. :D
