I had been getting recommendations on this manga for a long time. So I thought I should at least give it a shot. Plus, it looked like my type.

When I read the first couple of chapters, I was hooked like a fish. Despite, the transitions of high and low quality artwork, I got used to it.
The story itself started to get more intriguing arc after arc. And then I found myself binge-reading it all in one go.

At the end of Tokyo Ghoul, I didn't know how to react.

Nowadays tragedies aren't popular...

Uta's remark echoed through my head for some time as I struggled to keep a stoic face.

Alas, I told myself that it was totally not worth getting bags under my eyes over...

Then I quietly drifted to sleep.

Moments later..

My feelings somehow had manifested itself in my dream, where I murdered every living character in Tokyo Ghoul with a quinque.

... A week later.

I had decided to give it another chance.

Why you ask?

Since I thought giving a manga a bad rating without properly reading it would be like ordering a person to be hanged for a crime they may not have committed.
(Don't quote me on this.)

While I took my damn time, rereading the chapters over steaming cups of coffee, my suspicions were proven right!
I had overlooked some details, that I had previously thought to be minor, and characters, who I thought had been introduced as fodder so I hadn't bothered to remember their names.

Moreover, due to the varying quality of panels, I had resigned to dig any deeper into characters and foreshadowing.

Okay, everyone makes mistakes. What's important is that they learn to rectify them and move on.

Moving on! I always believed the tale itself to be its selling point.

As the story was designed to leave the readers emotionally drained and pathetic, at times I had to turn my Stoic mode on.
Also, the characters, who were relevant to the plot, how well each of them were explored! (Well except for one, you know, the one who came in like the Terminator).
Even after some shocking revelations, they still managed to be as mysterious as one finds their own bum. It makes me want to interview them first-hand.

The twists of the plot are what takes the cookie though.

Speaking of twists, as you know, initially I wasn't a fan of the ending. But that was when I binge-read.

After I read it again. I must say----

----I was still not convinced.

😫 This manga had so much potential yet it ended with the greatest cliff-hanger of all time. So many questions unanswered, I felt very disappointed.😢

But then I discovered :re and slapped myself for jumping to conclusions, again.

Ps. Next I binge-read the sequel. 😳 And I have to say that a bunch of stuff in Tokyo ghoul makes sense now. So folks, that's how I grew to love the tragic ending of Tokyo Ghoul.
