Leiji Matsumoto Anime Comments
Since there's so much stuff it's incredibly hard to properly organize my thoughts on each series/movie i'll be using this as an archive of thoughts, or something.
In alphabetical order:
Anime:
1000 Nen Joou: Queen Millennia (Movie) - Pretty good and the setting looks far more futuristic than the anime version which is realistic. I prefer what I've seen of the TV anime better, though.

Arei no Kagami - Waiting for subs that'll never happen.
Bohemian Rhapsody - Yo Haguro is hot and that's about it.

Cosmo Warrior Zero - First 8 episodes are great and everything after it suffers from bad pacing and other production issues. I kept expecting the gunslinger girl to appear again, but she never did!

Cosmo Warrior Zero OVAs - These seem to be alternative versions of a couple episodes. Maybe they shafted them and remade them? Certainly not a prequel/sequel to the main series.

DNA 999.9 - Strangely I hardly remember anything about this.
Ginga Tetsudou 999 (TV) - Amazing concept and some incredibly cool episodes. Sadly, the series suffers from having too many similar episodes. Movies are far superior. Still worth a watch, though.

Ginga Tetsudou 999 (Movie) - An alternative version of the events from the anime series. Pretty good.

Ginga Tetsudou 999: Eternal Fantasy - Awesome setup for a sequel that includes a hot metanoid chick.

Ginga Tetsudou Monogatari - Series had its ups and downs. Was hoping that the aliens were actually metanoids.... I also doubt Leiji designed such ugly aliens

Gun Frontier - Excellent show with some of the best fanservice and comedy anime has to offer. The story is also pretty unique. However, like most Leiji anime it suffers from being unfinished. This series has no real ending. The 'ending' is a giant cliffhanger to a sequel that never happened!

Harlock Saga: Niibarungu no Yubiwa - Another unfinished series (perhaps you're seeing a trend). The designs seem a little of a Miime's new design isn't to my liking and her personality is also completely different. Was nice to see some gods and an expansion of the setting at least!

Interstella5555 - Probably won't watch
Marine Snow no Densetsu - Not subbed. There's a remake coming out though.
Ozma - I don't see why people hate this so much. The protag is in the typical leiji style and the actual heroes are fucking awesome. The ending is also very lovable.

Queen Emeraldas - Emeraldas is one of the coolest females in the universe but that doesn't stop this from being incomplete.

Saraba Uchuu Senkan Yamato: Ai no Senshitachi -
Sayonara Ginga Tetsudou 999: Andromeda Shuuchakueki - A sequel that far surpassed my expectations. One of the best Leiji anime ever produced. The animation is top notch and the cameos are great!

SF Saiyuuki Starzinger - Extremely dated from what I've watched. The protagonist is far less mature than anyone you've ever seen. The art fails to capture Leiji's unique style and the mecha designs are bad. I guess the son goku reference is cool?

Shin Taketori Monogatari: 1000 Nen Joou - Even better than the film. A strangely competent main character whose only problem is that he's a midget. The pacing works well to establish opposing feelings between the protag and Yayoi. I look forward to the rest being subbed in 10 years.

Space Pirate Captain Herlock: Outside Legend - The Endless Odyssey - All the villains besides the female one were really unintimidating. Show feels like an anime that just happens to have the Harlock crew for whatever reason. Show has a few highlights but it felt out-of-character.
6/10 for badass possessed Yuki
Submarine Super 99 - Not subbed :(
The Cockpit - An excellent set of ovas set in WWII. The first one suffers from being too short, but the other two are done quite nicely. 3 > 2 > 1, imo.

Uchuu Koukyoushi Maetel: Ginga Tetsudou 999 Gaiden - Awesome art! Awesome music! Great series and I don't really have any complaints.

Uchuu Senkan Yamato - Production issues, inconsistencies, and bad main characters. The only remotely interesting character is Desler and the old captain. Yuki is boring and is basically just there instead of having a purpose like most Leiji girls.

Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2 - Why does this still use the Iscander OP? Anyway, this improves on everything and I have no major issues besides the main cast still being boring and uninteresting as fuck.
