I started watching Clannad for the first time yesterday after having watched the film several months ago. Initially i had problems getting into the series properly due to how many things have been changed from the film, some powerful moments removed, the time line's gone squiffy and several of the main characters are different, however i am slowly but surely getting more and more into it as i constantly remind myself to disassociate the two, this is an alternate story after all.
This is not my main problem tho, no that is the song "Dango Daikazoku" that comes at the end of each episode. In the movie this song was so strongly tied to Nagisa who ends up as such a tragic character that this song, her theme to me, invokes really strong emotions every time i hear it, so much so that now every time it comes to the end of an episode i'm literary weeping before i can make the move to switch to the next one!
6 episodes done, only 18 more to go... i feel like i may die of dehydration at this rate! = p

Will do, actually i'll probably be posting a blog update about all my thoughts about Clannad and After Story once i'm done.

I'm still having to reserve ultimate judgement until after i've finished watching both Clannad and After Story, tho i was wondering if maybe watching the film first was a mistake but you're words have made me thought that it might have been for the best. While the series is allowing us to know the characters a lot better i do feel that the film told the main story between Nagisa and Tomoya much more beautifully... but that's just my current opinion, i'm still 6 episodes from the end of Clannad so between here and the end of After Story that can all change.

I watched the series first and loved it. Found it one of the best I have ever seen. I then watched the movie a few months after and still liked it, but it was missing the connection I was able to build with all the characters over the coarse series. At the end of "After Story" I was messed up for a week. So I am feeling you on the song.IcedEarth |
