I was impressed by how good this series was, given that the episode lengths were so little. The comedy was quite good. I actually caught myself laughing out loud several times. The artwork/animation is simplistic and cute and the voice acting is great. Honestly, there aren't really any special qualities that differentiate these characters from the typical school/slice of life/comedy characters. I mean, the characters are funny, random, have contrasting personalities with other characters, and are very likable, but not unique enough to stand out with significance. I did enjoy watching this anime while it lasted and wished that there were more episodes, but it's lacking some of that pizzazz needed to keep a viewer engaged in a longer series.

It's so great how this series maintained the same all-around quality as the previous season. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's just this special something that keeps me engaged with every episode, despite the fact that the majority of time within the episodes are filled with karuta matches. Chihayafuru (1st and 2nd season) is laid out in such a way that no matter the situation, you are bonded with all of the characters by being connected through their thoughts and feelings. I loved every character except for Sumire (too self-centered to be likable, in my opinion). I also enjoyed how nothing was predictable or too cliched. For example, the protagonists didn't always win their match or have things happen in their favor during times of need. This allowed the characters to grow, causing the viewer to feel closer to them, as if they were real people. The many genres (romance, action, comedy, etc.) that were contained in this series were presented near flawlessly. I liked that the comedy improved this season and that the romance progressed (I'm on Team Taichi xD). Overall, this is a fantastic series that deserves more attention.

This series was alright in the beginning, even somewhat interesting, but it grew to be more and more annoying. The "try-hardness" of its efforts to pull emotional responses from the viewer were too obvious and a little bit typical (reminded me of a more romantically complicated version of Clannad). I would've dropped this one if I didn't commit to always finishing what I started. The characters are a more influential reason why it was so painful to watch this. Most of them aren't very likable and have overly exaggerated feelings and actions that just add to the cheesiness of the anime. I hated watching Miyako get what she wanted, because she was too much of a try-hard, possessive, obnoxiously peppy, and whiny to be considered likable, in my opinion. It's too bad that the artwork and animation are actually pretty good, because it's so hard to overlook the bad qualities in order for them to be appreciated as they should.

ef: A Tale of Memories. - Prologue
Much like the actual series, this was overdone to the point that it's cheesy and melodramatic. I saw this preview after I watched the whole series, so there wasn't much new or thrilling to me. If I saw it before I watched the series, I still wouldn't be intrigued to watch it anyway just because it isn't very different from the series, which I ended up not liking. I thought that this preview was actually better than the series just because it didn't drag on for 12 full episodes. It really is a shame that the artwork/animation and music aren't bad, because all of the other negative aspects take away from those good ones.
