17 | Hanma Baki vs. Kengan Ashura | 5 | ONA | 1
18 | Hanma Baki: Son of Ogre Exposition dumps, padding and a nearly panel-by-panel tribute to the source material holds this show back. The prison is ruthless, accentuating the badassery of Baki, Mr. Oliva and the Pirate as they exploit the hell out of the prison’s security and guards. It opens like an amazing Jojo episode or a Twilight Zone episode, and gives more screen time to Baki then we get in his self-titled Baki(Netflix)… but he still doesn’t feel like the main character, and the final fight was a bore(exposition, padding unrelated to the fight, etc…)… but it’s Baki, the pirate’s backstory and fight with Oliva is enough for me to give a new season a chance(like I’ve done with the pass three parts). | 6 | ONA | 12

23 | JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV) | 8 | TV | 26
24 | JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 3: Stardust Crusaders Do not binge watch this! Part 3 is a huge shift for the series. The DMC3, or Onimusha 2 of the series. The moment Jojos gets off of Fist of the North Star’s shoulder and becomes something beautifully unique. A bizarre Twilight Zone.X.Persona(though Jojos predates that series) Boss Rush transcript that carries on for several dozen chapters, making for a fun show to tune-in to every week to watch three or so episodes. The reason my raring is low. My ratings never try to represent the quality of a show, only my impressions throughout watching it. My mistake was binging at least seven episodes every weekend, making for an exhausting blurry experience for my first time viewing. Outside of that, this is an amazing new start for the series. | 6 | TV | 24

31 | Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä Panzer Lagoon, Mushihimesama, and Neon Genesis Evangelion owe everything to this animation. My favorite of the Studio Ghibli films!! 39 | Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica Perfect companion piece to Perfect Blue and a good show to watch after EoE. Great story, weight, characters and action. Doesn’t treat me like a child either, so I have no complaints and so much admiration. | 10 | TV | 12
40 | Megalo Box What I expect out of anime quality post-Afro Samurai and Samurai Champloo Below is my thoughts on the original in a Nomad news forum: After being scorn by Neill Blomkamp's Elysium and Chappie, as well as the boredom I have with the second half of Hajime No Ippo(the anime), Megalobox was and still is a refreshment, a reminder of why I bother with anime to begin with, not only great animation, but a stylish world design that looks even more enticing in this upcoming installment. Since some people in this comment section like to do destructive criticism on the original show, I'll give some constructive appraisal for those who never watched it. It didn't try to be as drawn out as most anime, in just 13 episodes, it told a story and ended it. It redesigned boxing, everyone wears Exosuits when they box, so it's no longer just a test of skill, and skill may have gone extinct if not for what Joe does in the plot. Exosuits are such a cool idea because now weight classes no longer have a purpose, everyone carries the power of heavyweights, despite weight... so a 146 lb fighter may have more of an advantage than a 260 lb fighter. Joe isn't as interesting as Tomorrow's Joe, but he's still not a whiner, and when most Shonen anime writers have their main character talk or think about having more courage, Joe shows it. He has it, as well as mistakes him and others are trying to fix. These thoughts are mostly from a boxing fan, I love the world of Megalobox, and the characters. It's all a refreshment and a great visual companion piece to the South African film District 9. | 8 | TV | 13

44 | Naruto There’s much I love: the characters, their interactions and just about everything that isn’t actual fights. The fights themselves are where Naruto becomes horribly unwatchable. Outside of the opening fight of the series, these fights will bloat and stretch on for at least 7 episodes, poorly padded with bad guys who’d monologue rather than fight, flashbacks and long winded explanations for moves that many times never work. On the other hand, first time viewers like YT will never know for sure who’ll win these fights, with the only thing barely carrying me through the show is how much I care for particular characters. Without a doubt, I wouldn’t have finished this show without the help of friends. If you read the manga, for the most part this show is of no use to you. Many elements Kishimoto was still figuring out for these characters is not re-edited and seen in it’s best light through the anime… which makes this a fruitless adaptation. | 6 | TV | 220
45 | Naruto Movie 1: Dai Katsugeki!! Yuki Hime Ninpouchou Dattebayo! | 8 | Movie | 1
46 | Naruto Movie 2: Dai Gekitotsu! Maboroshi no Chiteiiseki Dattebayo! | 8 | Movie | 1
47 | Naruto: Shippuuden Movie 3 - Hi no Ishi wo Tsugu Mono Like the two other Naruto films I watched, it’s full of fun exchanges between characters, and full of epic fights that aren’t 7+ episodes long. The villain this time around is a bit too big for a filler villain, and the stakes are “End of the World” which is my least favorite filler stake… but in it’s favor, you see lots of characters that don’t have time to shine in Shippuden, and actual team work, which is a forgotten aspect of almost all Naruto fights post season 1(of the original Naruto) The plot has some dumb moments, but the action and characters make up for it. It’s a nice ending for my Naruto experience. | 7 | Movie | 1
48 | Nihon Animator Mihonichi My opinion of this series is all based on ME!ME!ME! by Khara. This music video encapsulates my life since middle school perfectly. | 10 | ONA | 35
49 | Nomad: Megalo Box 2 We all make mistakes impossible to mend, but can be corrected.… at it’s best this is what NOMAD is about. Megalobox S1 struggled with the same problem that plagued Tomorrow’s Joe… too many children. This time around, I found myself empyazing and remembering all of them. As a Megalobox fan, watch it. | 10 | TV | 13

53 | Promare Beautiful animation overlooks a pretty cool and unique plot of people capable of self-combustion and how the world would adapt accordingly. Every important character has logical reasons to do what they do, and that pulls me into this film a lot more than it does many other Shonen stories, where villains excuse is “cause I’m evil”. I enjoyed every second of it!!! Action scenes ARE STYLISH, and Mech usage was unique. In Promare, Mechs are not built to kill people. They’re walking firetrucks capable of incapacitating dangerous people. No people are ever killed in this story by Galos’ mech(s). That’s a real nice twist. Updated 2022 thoughts: TRIGGER and I aren’t on the best of terms. Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill are ehhh… I always love and am obsessed with the shows for the first three-four episodes- but then it keeps going and going 20+ episodes is a hard pill to swallow. Compare that to Promare and “The Twins” from Star Wars Visions. These are very TRIGGER, yet I love them simply cause the exciting over-the-top stories don’t last long enough to get old. | 8 | Movie | 1

65 | Sonic★the★Hedgehog Great animation over a heartwarming day in the life of Sonic and his friends. A suprise that makes you want to get back into whatever sonic games you own. The animation, sound, together makes for when Sonic or his doppelgänger, Metal SONIC speed up, my heart races. The sound of a supersonic jet as Sonic kicks back water, or seeing his feet turn to a red blur and his body vanish into a blue ball of speed... it's mindblowing stuff! Updated thoughts 2022 The first episode is a blast for every second. The comedy and cheesiness, and the tension is light and giddy, so much of Sazan and the Comet Girl. But then the second episode is where everything slows. Comedy isn’t there much, and too little is actually happening. As a Sonic fan, watch episode 1. It is a treat. Skim through episode 2. | 8 | OVA | 2

70 | Umi ga Kikoeru A near feature length music video. A simple story reinforced by a soundtrack… but it’s story too is pretty subtle. Though the end reveals a lot, much of the film is shrouded in nice subtlety. Stories told, overlapped and plot points revealed without being said, rare sight in Japan, and always appreciated. This is one of my favorite films, like all Studio Ghibli projects. | 9 | TV Special | 1

72 | Wizardry | 7 | OVA | 1 | ||||
73 | Wolverine | 6 | TV | 12 | ||||
74 | Yasuke The soundtrack is the only reason to watch it. Cool visuals, good fights, but the story and it’s pace isn’t good and falls into the lowest of Shounen territory by the ending. For a short series, it could’ve been cut even shorter, and tighter but wasn’t… the soundtrack makes me forgive it’s flaws. | 6 | ONA | 6
