Orange and AnoHana both involve the death of a friend at a rather young age. It also shows a group of friends and how the death affects them later in life.

Both share very similar themes of friendship, regret, atonement, nostalgia, and love. They both feature a grieving group of friends that wish they had done things differently in the past, wanting to redo decisions that led to the death of one of their dearest friends. When they are given the opportunity to atone for their regrets and grief, they seize the moment; in Orange, they send letters to their past selves telling them what to do differently, and in AnoHana, the ghost of their friend who passed away appears and won't disappear until her last wish is fulfilled. Letters addressed to each of them also   read more

A loved one who is not with us. A pain to loss , makes our protagonist, is forced to overcome , along with his friends , the pain caused by events of the past and build a better future.

It's like the premise has been flipflopped....... Almost. Instead of the group of friends now in the future for a girl form the past, it's the group of friends now in the past with regrets of the future based on a friend in the past. But the same level of feels ring true in Orange, you just get hit with them a hell of a lot sooner than compared to Ano Hi Mita. Like from Ep3, not the last few episodes. It's so beatiful so far.. T.T

Both shows revolve around coming to terms with the death of a friend. Both explore the concept of regret and its effects on the psyche. Both involve some sort of supernatural occurrence to deliver a message through time. Both will make you cry buckets.

Both anime have a theme encompassing friendship and saving their friend from despair and tragedy. Past events play a very important role in both the anime i.e characters have regretful actions they have committed in the past that they wish they could've changed.

Very similar story about death and group of friends fighting regrets over it.

Both of these series focus on the problem of dealing with a friend's death. Although they are paced differently and have their own unique stories, the vibe that they give off is very similar. In both we find a group of friends who has to overcome a great loss, touching the topics of unchangeable past and awaiting future. Characters in these two series come to a realization of their past mistakes/regrets and either try to literally change them or at least their possible outcome. They include a few life lessons such as avoiding clinging to one's past, possible consequences of the contrary and, as we   read more

Anohana's main themes around the conjoining of friends and the dealing of grief, Orange delves into very similar ideas and character dynamics while simultaneously accurately depicting the struggles of mental health one may go through and the difference of dealing with it alone vs with help. Both series give realistic and meaningful stories but given a slight supernatural twist that keeps the watcher hooked and interested.

There are several aspects of similarity between anime, such as the story, it is very similar, but orange anime excels in terms of drawing and animation, and they are considered one of the most beautiful anime and romance development.

Both shows follow a group of friends struggling with the loss of a close one and show that many years later the tragedy still haunts them. Orange and anohana are both very sad dramas with a supernatural element added to the mix which make them pretty similar.

Orange and AnoHana are sad animes revolving around death, grief, and lives full of regret. Both Orange and AnoHana involves a group of friends who struggle with the death of one of their friends, living lives full of regret wishing things were done differently in the past. The friend groups in these animes blame themselves for what happened to their friend after they die in an accident. Both animes also involve some supernatural aspects, in AnoHana its the ghost of their friend and in Orange its receiving letters from their future selves.

Both are about a group of friends that had a falling-out because of a death. Both include themes of guilt and regret, and both are generally sad/serious with a touch of romance and scenes intended to be emotionally moving (my favorite). Both contain themes of magical realism but have few elements of fantasy. Both are quite short, 12 or 13 episodes apiece. Personally biased towards Anohana due to art style choices, but otherwise both are excellent "deep" animes if that's your thing.

Both are tear-jerking stories (especially the endings), with the Sci-Fi in Orange turning into the supernatural in AnoHana, and both deal with powerful stories about losing the ones you love with romance elements.
