The Male protagonists in both series have somewhat same situations when they are joining their Respective Academies, in Freezing, Kazuya's elder sister who was a Pandora died while fighting a Nova and in Absolute Duo, Tooru's sister was killed by a mysterious man. The difference is that Kazuya wanted to become strong and fight the Nova to protect mankind just like his Sister whereas Tooru wanted to become stronger and avenge his sister's death.
