High school of the dead and Tokyo ghoul are similar in the context that they both battle against abnormal creatures.

Both anime also explore themes of survival and the struggle to maintain humanity in the face of adversity. Tokyo Ghoul also has a fan service element, similar to Highschool of the Dead, although it is not as prominent.
