World in the future, new technologies and organization fighting for freedom. Both have some similar supporting characters.
Both Fractale and Shangri-La have future settings. Shangri-La is set in a post apocalyptic world with carbon base technology where as Fractale has more of a future technology. The worlds that they live in both have dark secrets. Also in shangri-La everyone/thing is controlled by Shangri-La the "paradse" where as Fractal everyone is controlled by the fractal system and in both anime there is rebellions against fighting the system. so if you like either Fractale or Shangri-La you will like the other !! ... i hope this helps and makes sense :)
A similar power struggle is held by those who run the so-called 'utopia' and those who are left to fend for themselves
The main character is a plucky, odd teen who wants to understand the world before condemning it
There is a large control by an entity that is seen as good to everyone except those directly under their influence
The supporting characters are much the same
Apocalyptic settings (Though Shangri-la is traditional destruction, while Fractale is more destruction of ideas and thought)
Both deal with a large ending that is somewhat ambiguous
