COMEDY. Lots and lots of Japanese pop culture references in both. And there's also that one bit in Lucky Star that parodies Pani Poni Dash, and I'm sure that if Pani Poni was created after Lucky star it'd be the other way around.
A lot of references to Japanese and American culture (such as movies, anime, music etc) in both animes. Also, the animes are very random, and fun too watch.

In some ways, Lucky Star is a more subdued Pani Poni Dash. It is not nearly as off the wall and does not make even half as many references, but like PPD, Lucky Star is big on parody and features a cast of moe stereotypes.
Both are very fond of referencing other animes, so they're perfect for anime veterans ^^
Pani Poni Dash! is great comedy anime like Lucky star ^^

Both anime are practically about the crazy life of school girls. Both make many references to other anime and games as well.
Paniponi Dash is like Lucky Star but on crack. Both shows have references up the wazoo and it's a great time trying to spot every minor detail.
Lucky Star is generally a bit more laid back in tone while Paniponi Dash is wild and hyperactive. I still think that if you like one, then you'll like the other as well.

They are filled with randomness, have cute girls as cast, and feature references to other anime and pop culture. They can also be be pretty funny depending on if you like reference humor.
