Two of the only 'romance' anime that I can honestly stomach.
Nana is a story of two women who are both called Nana who meet each other by happenstance on a train and get to know each other. One is an awkward ditz and the other one is a cool and composed rock star. The anime follows their love lives and how they develop as people. It can be depressing, but it's very realistic and down to earth.
Shizuka is an anime that feels very real too, centered around a young man and his interest in a girl called Shizuka who is still dealing with trauma
