The main topics of both series are the connoisseur's appreciation of objects of art, and the unfolding of intrigues that often surround them. The series are partly episodic, and although Gallery Fake is set in late 20th century japan, they have a similar feel and are both somewhat educational.

Both series are primarily about art. After having watched Hyouge Mono, you will recognize quite a few of the names and pieces of art that are featured in Gallery Fake. The protagonists are similar in that they can be quite cunning in obtaining art that caught their interest (or is worth a ton of money).

Both series revolve around the themes of characters deeply invested in the art-world. It is interesting to note, which in the practical sense, art is mostly used as a background piece to most shows, not the focal aspect of the anime. Which is why I recommended Hyouge Mono. There is simply not many shows out there which fulfill this niche. Chances are, if you're drawn to a show like Gallery Fake, you may enjoy Hyouge Mono as well, much like I have.
