well, shana has TONS of action, complex (overdramatic) storylines; whilst kannagi is much more relaxed with nothing much happening except everyday things, however the main male protagnists are extremely similar in that they seem quite laid back average, nothing-much-going-on guys, who by some odd reason gets chased by some girls.

Normal guy + sudden supernatural girl appearance. While Shakugan no Shana has more action, both shows share romantic and magic elements.
Both have female leads with supernatural powers and have the male leads wrapped around their little fingers.

A pure-and-sweet boy accidentially starts living with a girl with the supernatural powers. Nagi and Shana are very alike, although Shana has got more of the 'tsun' and Nagi is more 'dere'. You DEFINITLY should watch Shakugan No Shana, if you find Kannagi enjoyable. But prepare for less comedy, more romance and more mystic things.
