It’s really easy to get into other kinds of sports anime if you love at least one, but I often thought while watching this show: “Diamond no Ace is the Hajime no Ippo of baseball”. The sense of humor and approach to the characters felt so similar, there’s no doubt that Ippo was an influence on Daiya imho.

Both series have great characters, a quick paced plot, and lots of comedy between the action. The art styles of both are unique and great, though Hajime no Ippo (season 1 only. The later seasons are made later and the art was cleaned up.) was made awhile ago so the quality isn't as clear. Don't let that deter you though, it's a great series.
While Diamond no Ace is about baseball and Hajime no Ippo is about boxing, both main characters follow a similar growth pattern. Both are from average backgrounds and through hard work polish their diamonds in the rough.
