-Both main characters (they also look alike in some aspects) are loners that fall in love with 'popular' girl.
-After spending more time to get to know each other, it is revealed that the main girl has a sickness.
-Main character has to come to terms with the main girls' illnesses.
Although not entirely similar, watching both helps give the viewer two different perspectives and approaches to love and troubles in life.
