Both of them show 4 cute girls having their free time at nature, Non Non Biyori is focused more on schooldays and Yama no Susume is focused on the mountain climbing, but they still are quite alike. Also there are a lot of really cool lanscapes in both of them.

Both animes have a comfortable, slow paced slice-of-life feel to them. The cast in both feature girls in different years of school, who come together and and have fun. Yama no Susume and Non Non Biyori are feel-good ("fuwa fuwa"), happy-go-lucky animes that'll turn your frown upside down!
