These animes have very similar characters; one being shy, one being silent, one being hyper, etc. The stories are also similar in a way. It's about life during school, the hardships the characters face and friendship being very important. The school is also divided into 2 different groups, the "average" students and the "advanced" students. Even though La Corda D'Oro is about music and Special A is more about competition and sports, they are both very fun to watch.
The characters frequently reminded me of the ones in Special A, although they're different in their own way. Also, both stories are about a group of seven people that are being ranked and the main characters are very passionate.

They both have a strong female character, surrounded by good-looking, extremely talented male characters. Both have a light-hearted, romantic feel - the story line never gets too deep, but they are both enjoyable to watch.
Kiniro no Corda: Primo Passo, or La Corda d'Oro as it is more commonly referred to, is a romance shoujo anime, much like Special A. La Corda d'Oro is set in a school and has many different characters that are set in a 'club' like environment. It also has students with special abilities and every character has a different personality which allows you to like or dislike characters for whatever reason.
I actually watched La Corda d'Oro before Special A; I'm certain that if you like Special A, you will like La Corda d'Oro for the same reasons.
